Pretty cool stuff for a home defense round..... hmmm. Just might have to pick up some when available on the shelf and try them out.

Isn't that similar the the "Gasser" Projectiles?

First of all, I'm familiar with the mechanics of shot in a shotgun. Given that there are 410 handguns (Judge, PD, Governor, etc.), aside from the fixed and pre-calculated spread...how are these all that different from a shot shell? It seems like a solution looking for a problem...and a complex/expensive one at that.

Now I know, high stress situations are different from punching holes in paper at 15 yds...got it. But you're going to have to practice with these rounds just like you practice with your other range rounds (if you distinguish between range and non-range ammo) and that's NOT going to be cheap. .45 is $5 PER ROUND...12 GA is $6 and there's no discount for buying in bulk (yes, there's a discount from Suggested Retail but 10 or 50 rounds, it's $5 or $6 a pop).

Lastly, I can't find ANY ballistics information (the FBI claims 14" of penetration on the Fully Lethal .45 but no backing data) on the site. Nothing about velocity, nothing about gr. weight of the projectile/projectiles, nothing.

Given that it's targeted for close and mid-range use (with no definition of said distances but assuming 6-20 ft), a .410 will expand to at least 8" at 6' and 12-14" ad 15'.

    --Note--
I'm only picking on .410 since that's available in handgun and rifle.

I think I'll stick with buckshot or buck-n- ball.

Or we can just learn to shoot before pulling strapping one on! This is a solution looking for a problem, as is IMO that new smart gun/grenade thingy that costs $20k and has computers, lasers and shit. If we just arm the soldiers with 40mm grenades like they want they can try two or three at $60 and save us like $19,000.

If you can't shoot, use buckshot or move to Camden NJ, you'll learn to shoot right quick.

Shoot one bullet, hit target three times - Video - Technology

shows some shots. but, one of the comments the guy makes in the video:
"See it corrected your shot, you pulled down and to the left and it corrected." (paraphrased)

Um, no it didn't 1 of three projectiles hit the target. You'd get similar results with a scatter gun.

If you can't shoot, get some practice in. If you really want to defend yourself or your familiy get some training (not just plinking, but with an instructor where they put you under stress)

The issue is, simply, that all these new CCW Permit'tes can't hit a Barn at 25 Yds, and of course they ALL think they can draw a "Smiley Face" on a Head Target at 200 Ft. "Mel Gibson in the Movies" I see this all the time around here in the summer. These Yahoo FlatLanders show up, on their Dream Alaska Fishing Trip, and Strap On there Brand Spankey New .44Mag HogLeg, and HipWadders, grab their Poles, and head on down to the Creek, to catch a few salmon. The only problem is, that Mr. Brownie, or Mrs BlackBear and two Cubs, are already fishing that spot, and don't take kindly to some Human wanting to share their dinner meal. So the Yahoo rips off a few rounds in the general direction of the Bear, and He/She gets Pissed, and charges down the creek. Oh, it is a Bluff Charge for sure, but the Yahoo doesn't know that, and he empties the rest, into everything within sight, as he soils his shorts. Then he returns to camp, to change his britches and tells everyone the "Tale". Then I have to go out, and make sure he didn't actually HIT anything. Can't have a wounded animal, running around, to scare the FlatLanders. I I find a blood Trail, then it is back to Camp to call the Fish Cop. (Who also is our State Trooper) He is 6-8 Hours, away, but will eventually show up, and I have to spend the next two days, with him, (Because I am the Permanent Resident, and the Posse) looking for the Dang wounded Bear. This happens at least once every year, and it is a PIA. ...... YMMV....

Heck, I used to work at a local gun range/shop and would assist the instructors in the permit class on the range. To "pass" they had to hit 32 out of 48 shots (but since there are 50 rounds in a box, guess what, you got 2 "bonus shots"!)
I was shocked at the number of people who couldn't hit the target (standard silhouette) at 9 ft, let alone at the max range of 50'. Oh and the people that come in to qualify with a snub nose 44mag, 454 casull, or similar gun.

Unfortunately in my state you can "qualify" with any gun you want, and that is not the gun you have to carry (though, the range I worked at recommended you come in and qualify with every gun you intended to carry, for a fee of course).

@BTPost I think you might have strayed off topic, actually you are so on target and so far deep into it that you actually open a new topic.
Jackasses are hard on all of us, and the further they get into the woods the worse off WE are.

Maybe we can get some sort of radius collar on everyone that is not "gunny approved" :) just say-en

In SC the CWP requirement is 10hrs on legal stuff, you're expected to know the safety stuff before you show up. Most of the instructors I know passively test the safety although there is no requirement. If anyone displays lack of familiarity we/they require them to take a supplemental class. Then to qualify you must bring your own carry gun and 50 rounds, you are evaluated on the range in loading, unloading and firing from the holster. every student is required to hit 10 shots in an 8" circle at 21' in 10 seconds. You can reshoot as many times as necessary, instructor patience permitting. I have seen people go through two full boxes of ammo, then return the following week to qualify.

Here in NC when I took my class, I was already familiar with the range (had a year family pass) and ripped off all my shots in the first round and made one big hole in the middle of the target. The instructor was standing behind me and once I had cleared my .45 asked me to stay back and assist the others.

We had 3 "gangbanger" sideways shooters, three or four newbies and a half dozen people who were scared to pull the trigger. By the end of the almost hour he had designated for qualifying we had everyone standing and holding correctly and everyone qualified with at least 21/30 and they were not just "in the black".

I got stuck with two of the "kill shot" sideways thug-life wannabes and it was a real eye-opener when they missed almost every shot and I asked if I could help. I got some attitude until I asked, if I pay for the ammo, may I demonstrate what you are doing wrong? When I took their gun (after walking them through clearing it) and was able to hit 7/7 or 13/13 (full mags) with an unknown, unfamiliar weapon by holding it and standing correctly they shut up and listened.

One of the "never shot the firearm in his life" guys was literally scared to pull the trigger. He was one of the last and hadn't been on the range when everyone else was firing so he really didn't have any idea how loud it would be. I stood next to him and watched his finger and shouted "BANG" just before the trigger broke and he dropped the gun. I was waiting for that and caught it before it hit the bench but then we took about ten minutes to get him fully familiar with the gun and how loud it was going to be.

It was a 9mm and so I got permission to shoot in his lane and fired off a couple rounds of .45, which were going to be louder than his gun (but were actually quieter than my "bang") and once he was at least a little accustomed to the noise he was finally able to qualify. It took him two attempts but the second "set" he hit 27/30.

The instructor did pull about a third of the class to the side one at a time and strongly suggested a handgun familiarization course.

Well if you want multiple projectiles, they have been around since guns were invented. Buck and ball (one caliber ball and a load of buck shot) for example. If you have a cartridge gun you can load several round balls with a gas check or other spacer and have at it. Take a gas checked lead bullet and split it into several pieces before loading. Even loading your own shotshells for most cartridges isn't that hard.
