It occurs to me that the most effective position we can affect with our voice is in the selection of judges in our court system. Somewhere long the line, this important job got filled with lawyers rather than citizens (peers). Why can't we take this back? If a person has their rights violated, rather than have the revolving door propaganda throwed at us, we can realize a victory. Laws are not meant to control people, but rather to prevent the abuse. One good judge would be worth a thousand useless laws.

The main problem is that the judges are not allowed (in most cases) to exercise judgement. The laws (politically made) require certain penalties and assessing the guilt or innocence is left to the jury. About all the judge is really allowed to do is apply the law, not judge. Of couse, this all came about because of poor judgements early on in the system. I can see your point, but that would require far more involvement by the citizens than we can hope for in this day and age, not counting the complete revamping of the judicial system. A good idea, that, but it won't happen in my lifetime. Drats, anyway.[booze]

Hell even if they would just let the jurors know about jurrors rights and jury nulification rather than lieing to them and telling them they dont have these rights then it would clean out a lot of the BS laws.
