Appeasement never works with an aggressive country. Once they are appeased their appetite quickly grows, requiring more appeasement until a point is reached where appeasement is no longer an option. The best approach is a swift and aggressive response to overt aggression. Weakness will never halt aggression. The Ghandi approach is limited and mostly a dismal failure.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

My dad is forever pointing to Ghandi as the way to handle things. I always tell him Ghandi wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes if he'd been facing Stalin.

Ghandi's approach worked (mostly) for MLK. However ---

Then there's the Dalai Lama. So far, nothing has come of his work either.

And he would have ended up gassed had he done that to Hitler. He was facing the British, and they couldn't make a decision before tea time.

How much longer will we deal with appeasement by the sheep in Amerika, before they rise up with overt action....or get herded into the pens....? The people in general, are weak to an out of control government... who/when will this course reverse... or not?

And they were protected by the rule of law in their respective societies. Ghandi's approach only works when it is protected by the rule of law. It wouldn't do so well in the Crimea against Putin's thugs.

Or when the rule of law breaks down/people go rogue (assassination of MLK, for example). I would go so far as to say that this approach only works when EVERYONE is willing to let you go this route. As long as there is a group of people (however small) or in some cases as few as one person who is willing to do whatever they feel is necessary to remove you from the equation, it falls apart.

I have a co-worker who was discussing "all get along" with his neighbor and it went something like this:
Neighbor - "I really don't understand why people can't work together to get things done and all just get along."
Friend - "Here's the problem with that mentality: I don't like you or agree with you and there's just the two of us. Your plan is shot to hell from the get go!"
    Neighbor - *Sad Face*
