    Subject: VOTE

It doesn't matter to me if you’re a veteran or not. Please read and forward this to all your e-mail buddies. It needs to go viral. If you are not interested in this message, simply delete it, If you are not a veteran send this to those you know who are, or to those who may know veterans.

The 2014 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.During this midterm election year, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested in this election. Get out and VOTE!!!!

A movement has been started by our armed forces to get out the vote in 2014.. They are organizing themselves, but this can be done by all of us. The President, the Commander in Chief, has made the Rules of Engagement (ROE) so difficult, that our troops are often killed before they can even get permission to fight. Nothing has been done to stop our troops from being murdered by the Afghanis they are training, either. Now, the President wants the US to sign on to the UNs International Criminal Court (ICC), which would allow the UN's ICC to arrest and try US troops for War Crimes, without the legal protections guaranteed under US Law, and from which there is no appeal. The President, with his Democratic control of the Senate, has nearly all the power. If the Non-Establishment Republicans, and Conservatives, can take back the Senate in 2014, our troops can once again be protected from unnecessary danger. Please consider this, and send it on to your mailing lists.

    Thank You

Interestingly enough, when GWB was president you heard about the military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan almost daily. With Obama in the White House, the mainstream media has been strangely quiet. ---

More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months. This is more than the combined total of the nine years before. Thirty have died in August. During the last month, over 50 additional NATO and US servicemen have been murdered, inside jobs by those who are hired to be a force for good in Afghanistan .

The commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep, although he ordered the White House flag flown at half-staff for the Sikhs that were killed. There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifferent incompetence of this president.

It has taken on a dangerous tone. No one knows what to do about him, but the anger runs deep as the deaths continue with no strategic end in sight to the idiocy of this war. Obama has had 4 years to end this futile insanity, during which time he has vacationed, golfed, campaigned, and generally ignored the plight of our men and women in uniform. But, there is now a movement afoot in the armed services to launch a massive get out the vote drive against this president.

Not just current active duty types, but the National Guard, Reserves, the retired, and all other prior service members. This is no small special interest group, but many millions of veterans who can have an enormous impact on the outcome of the November election if they all respond.

The one million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state if they all show up at the polls. It might not keep another one hundred U.S. troops from dying between now and November, but a turn out to vote by the military against this heart breaking lack of leadership can make a powerful statement that hastens a change to the indifference of this shallow little man who just lets our soldiers die.

Veterans and non veterans: Please forward to your lists.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her Life, wrote a blank check Made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including his or her Life." If you don't stand behind our "Military personnel" then feel free to stand in front of them!

Voting is the responsibility of a every citizen, even if it voting may not necessarily be obligatory. To not vote seems to me to be an abrogation of one's responsibility as a citizen, regardless of one's politics.

In my country voting is compulsory, yet I would still vote regardless of whether voting is compulsory or not. ( it is compulsory to lodge a vote...the vote itself does not have to be a valid vote...i.e. the voting slip may have no indicated voting preference marked on it by the person casting the vote.)

I made a couple of minor alterations that make better sense...i have underlined the changes....the ammended version goes....

Voting is the right and responsibility of every citizen eligible to vote, even if voting may not necessarily be obligatory. To not vote seems to me to be a waste of that right, and an abrogation of one's responsibility as a citizen, regardless of one's politics.

We will never be able to vote our way out of this mess, in fact thinking that way is part of what got us here.
(this is not a call to do or not do anything. Just my take on it)

Regrettably I agree, I still vote most of the time but I believe the system is beyond that making a difference :(

Actually, I'll submit that Chell only got it half right and because he missed the second critical half, he therefore is actually wrong.

People have an obligation to vote but there is a second obligation to be familiar with the candidates or other issues that may be on the ballot such they vote intelligently. If one is clueless about the details then they tend to be swayed by who had the better marketing campaign. That is a heck of a way to decide the fate of a society.... who has the better ads and name recognition determines the future.

Therefore, if a person has failed to fulfill the second obligation, to not be ignorant about what they are suppose to be voting upon, then they have an obligation to NOT vote and allow those knowledgeable to more intelligently decide the election. This is precisely why lousy incumbents are re-elected so often.

I take your point, AT, and agree with some things you say. It behoves voters to look at candidates and their policy positions with informed, critical, skepticism.

    1. You will note that I wrote that voting was a responsibility, not an obligation (even where voting is compulsory, with sanctions applied for failing to do so). It may seem like a bit of semantic hair splitting, but you will note the distinction between the act of responsible engagement, and the obligatory engagement in the democratic process of voting for or against candidates for political office. It can be said that driving a car or doing anything that is potentially harmful to oneself or others is a responsibility....implicit in that notion is that one discharges that responsibility responsibly; that is to say, with due care, consideration and competency.

    2. I agree to an extent, though even people who are au fait with the issues are not immune from the psychological manipulations of opinion massaging.

3a. I agree, but although it is undeniable that the way in which the successful candidate is marketed is influential, it's not necessarily the determining factor. Sometimes an otherwise good candidate can screw up a flawlessly compelling marketing campaign by doing or saying something that is political poison.

3.b That is so, sometimes...and sometimes not. Sometimes people will recognise that a pig with lipstick is still a pig...despite the best efforts of the image makers working on the marketing campaign. Sometimes it's the size of the candidate's war chest and how much influence the candidate has with the, political party king makers in the first place.

    4. The difficulty with that suggestion is that who decides, and at what threshold does intelligent decision making competency kick in to be eligible to vote?

    5. Although it may be a factor in election outcomes, it is none the less, not the only factor. If, among other things, the selection process for candidature is flawed such that the candidature field is populated exclusively by doofuses...then electors have the unenviable task of voting for the least worst doofus (I suggest that that was the case with the 2012 Republican primaries; Ron Paul, the only decent Republican candidate (in my view, though even he too had flaws as far as I was concerned), he didn't have the war chest that Romney had, and didn't have the broader party support that some of the other contenders had.)

Remember the no fire zones in Nam under Johnson? Can't fire that way, you will damage a rubber plantation. You have to request permission while under fire to fire back. Then came common sense and the NCO creed. It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.
