Ok, call me f'n off my nut, crazy, or just plain screwy, but I've had a moment this morning and this theory hit me; was this classic movie an attempt to uncover the plans of the government to control everything and included instructions to rely on ourselves? Let me lay this out - down and dirty...

Dorothy - every working man (blinded)
    Wizard - big government (savior)
Ruby Slippers - self reliance (tools of self reliance)
Lion - warrior trait (aspect of dorothy's personality)
Scare Crow - common sense (aspect of dorothy's personality)
Tin Man - Resourcefulness (aspect of dorothy's personality)
Oz - utopian city (false image of existence through faith in government control)
Wicked Witch - Military (leadership of federal forces)
Glenda - Police (local law enforcement - city/county)
    Tornado - economic instability
    Monkeys - criminals/zombies/military soldiers

Dorothy, blinded by faith that the Wizard can fix anything, journey's to the walled city of Oz only to find that the city and her salvation there is part of the myth and that the Wizard is totally ineffectual. Both witches, good and bad, play their part to aide or hinder both Dorothy and the the aspects of her personality. Dorothy's ultimate awakening to her environment and that faith and trust may only be found in self/family/God and values found at home.

Of course, as I said, I could be completely loony...

Well sure you might be completely loony but the Wizard of Oz story has been analyzed many times over the last century. Do a google search and you will find quite a bit of info about the story's political bent. It's definitely an interesting topic!

You may be screwy.... but that is some insight to the movie.... I must watch again for the 20th time to see if I can discern the same detail....

@Elessar you're not crazy, I think that was very good analysis. Funny how goofy things pop into your mind then whoa it correlates to current times.

Well, this concept hit me like a bolt of lightening and I wasn't even thinking of that movie. Instead, I was reading something completely unrelated and WHAM! It was in my head and I wrote it down on a piece of scrap paper. I did Google it but didn't see any other weird commentary like I was thinking. I did find a lot of normal reviews and comments...strange...just weird stuff...

    "Follow the yellow brick road"

    gold-bricks.

Which leads to the utopian city & government center, where the ruler is angry & refuses to help them until after they expose him as a fraud by refusing to "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain".

Yeah, lots of potential for political theories there.

I agree. Many works of fiction contain more than a few grains of truth. I recently watched an animated version of "Animal Farm". The parallels with our current Fed_Gov regime was amazing, and scary. I could easily replace various of the animals with members of bobo's regime, including himself.

What's scary is that Animal Farm was written in 1945 as an allegory to the events that lead to the pre-Stalin Russian Revolution (1917). The more things change, the more they stay the same and we as a race (that would be human race) refuse to learn from our history. It's just active stupid if you ask me.

Conspiracy like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder.

For many the Wizard of Oz is simply a movie.

However I'm certain the Teletubbies have a hidden agenda. [tongue]

In history we also note that the Baud's work was also highly political and some say he was naught but a pawn of the true believers who wrote and paid for the plays and who knew a corrupt ruling class was at fault for low wages, famine and poor education of the countries' population. This group of true believers had little choice at that time but to be covert in their efforts to warn the population, anything more and they would be imprisoned and killed.

    Some things never change.

Did'ja ever wonder why Shakespeare was never heard from again as a Poet or Playwright and where did he really come from, how did he finance his plays and how his knowledge in the Plays exceeded his education and travel limits of the time for a person of his background and low income?
