Yep. I can't recall where I first read about this but if you slather some mayo on the outside and grill it till it's toasty good you will have one heavenly grilled cheese sammich. Enjoying one with a bowl of fresh-from-the-garden tomato soup for dinner. Sorry, *munch* no pic's. *slurp* That is all.
That's exactly what I do, but I add the HELLMAN'S mayo to the inside and REAL BUTTER to the outside. Too many folks use Miracle Whip (Gross!) and Margarine (OMG!) to theirs, and this is so wrong.
Ours was a mixed marriage; Mrs prefers Miracle Whip, I must have Hellman's. Because its REAL mayonnaise. Told ya.
I am like @Seacowboys curiosity gets me every time. I will feed the kid a grill cheese for lunch. We have a new mayo- Just Mayo, supposed to be semi healthy. Will report back later. @Witch Doctor 01 apple butter inside sounds really good. BTW- miracle whip should never be confused or referred to as mayo.
I tried the apple butter on sharp cheddar mayo-grilled sandwich last night and that makes a total of three times I have eaten any bread since before last Thanks Giving, but it was delicious!
Tried the grilled cheese using mayo, it's ok, but the kids love my grilled cheese made with bacon grease instead of butter.
I had everything out and was ready to try the mayo and got shut down. The youngest vetoed any experimentation with grill cheese. I think I have to sneak it.
