Remember how the dot gov coerced companies like Google and Yahoo to let the NSA spy on your e-mail? (Seems that most have forgotten about it because the MSM has forgotten).

It seems that something similar is taking place now. Instead of getting a warrant to search your credit card charges, they're just going to circumvent the Constitution by coercing the retailers to hand over the purchases, mine that data, then do a couple of no-knock, shoot your dog, kick your wife, smack your kid raids to see if their hunches were correct.

Obama's ISIS War Already Hits Home: DHS Tells Retailers to Spy on You

[IMG]CCRight about the time President Barack Obama made to the nation his declaration of war in Iraq and Syria against the terrorist organization ISIS, Homeland Security Department (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson quietly announced that he's expanding the "See Something, Say Something" campaign by enlisting retailers to make sure you're with us, not against us, in this fight.

Johnson delivered some remarks at the Council of Foreign Relations in New York on September 10. He recalled that the September 11, 2001 attacks gave birth to his department, andboasted how much its grown since—"240,000 employees, 22 components and a total budget authority of about $60 billion"—but apparently that's not enough.

He listed the DHS's five-point plan to slog through the ever-hazier war on terror and the last one is "to address the home-grown terrorist who may be lurking in our midst" by "sending a private sector advisory identifying for retail businesses a long list of materials that could be used as explosive precursors, and the types of suspicious behavior that a retailer should look for from someone who buys a lot of these materials." He refused to say exactly what's on his list.

[IMG]frontpagemag.comThis new policy is alarming and problematic, first of all, because the FBI, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Johnson himself (repeatedly) have all acknowledged that ISISposes no credible threat to the U.S. homeland.

Johnson assures he's just looking for "explosive precursors" in people's shopping lists, but asTechDirt's Tim Cushing points out, "that could be nearly anything." Cushing predicts that this could be used to justify an even greater invasion of privacy: "Because retail outlets don't share customer purchase data with each other, this may result in the DHS attempting to justify the requisition of data from multiple retailers using credit/debit card numbers as a starting point."

This worst-first thinking, that someone buying a pressure cooker or bags fertilizer must be a domestic terrorist, promotes a climate of constant fear that degrades our own society, not ISIS.

PrePaid Debit Card will show the same Data on each purchase as a Credit Card, at the Retail Level.... So that isn't going to save you..... Cash is KING, if you are going in for these things.....

Not necessarily. You can go to target, buy a pre paid Visa/MC/Amex with cash, open that sucker up, walk across the parking lot to gander mt and use it immediately. The only thing that binds it to you is a surveillance video. You don't have to register the gift cards if you have no intention of using a pin... I've done it.

Agreed, but in that case, why not just use cash and get rid of the middle man (Visa/MC)?

Agreed. Which is why the original post listed cash first.

However, if you use the PrePaid Card, it has numbers on it, and those numbers are entered into the Transaction Machine, so they can deduct the amount from the Balance of the CARD, then the Purchase is LOGGED, into the Sales Database, along with the Items that were purchased. It may NOT ident YOU, specifically, but the Sale is still tracked, and logged. With cash, there is No such Record, logged by a Third Party.

Ok all together now... CASH IS KING !

Also I no longer shop at one LGS because they started tracking every purchase, even when using cash. If they ask me for a name I give then the name on the name tag I am looking at.

I look mostly to the flea market/swap meets for a lot of prep stuff. I found a deal on original Ball Jar regular mouth lids @ $60.00 a full case. A lot of stock and trade can be had for a fraction of it's price brand new. Picked up a 55 gallon drum pump for $15.00.
