British Government refuses to accept their own currency

Chris Rose was dying from terminal heart disease. He didn’t have long, and before he passed, he wanted to make sure that his 18-month old son received his British passport.

When he went to pay the application fee at the British consulate in Hong Kong with cash, they told him, “Sorry we only take credit cards.”

The English teacher who had been living in Hong Kong for 20 years doesn’t have a credit card, and thus has no way of paying the passport fees for him and his son.

So they rejected him. They rejected a dying man from paying for his son’s passport with the very currency that they themselves issue. It’s obscene.

Facing intense bureaucracy and several months of waiting with no guarantee of success, he gave up on the hope that his infant son would be able to visit his grandparents back home.

It was only after the story was publicized in the local press in Hong Kong that the requirement to pay with a credit card was ‘waived on compassionate grounds.’

Think about how ridiculous this whole situation is for a moment.

First the government makes it mandatory that you have a passport in order to be able to move across arbitrary borders on the map that they have created.

Then they charge you money for the privilege of having a passport. In other words, if you want to leave the country, you have to pay up.

But then they won’t allow you to pay for it with the pieces of paper they force you to use as money.

Instead, they force you to use the government-regulated (and protected) banking industry, whether you want to or not.

Everywhere you look you can find examples like this of how politicians view people as government property to be exploited like cattle.

The Brazilian government imposes a tax of 6.38% on all purchases made by Brazilians with credit cards abroad.

This rate rose from the previous 2.38% in 2011 with a federal mandate in an effort to curb the rising trend of Brazilians traveling abroad to make purchases that are often cheaper than back home.

They don’t even try to hide the fact that they don’t want Brazilians to spend money outside of the country.

The message they are sending is quite clear: stay put and pay through the nose for inferior products produced by companies that have paid us off for a monopoly.

Of course, we’re starting to see protests around the world, proving that people are increasingly aware of being screwed by their governments.

    But these protests are flawed.

Going out into the streets doesn’t change the system. And going to the voting booth only changes the players… not the game.

Every single election cycle people fill themselves with hope. They delude themselves into believing that everything will get better if they vote the right guy into office.

Of course, the right guy very quickly turns into the last guy. And nothing changes.

That’s because it’s the system itself that’s flawed. It’s not about any single individual.

This system awards a tiny elite with the power to kill. Steal. Wage war. Confiscate anyone’s property in their sole discretion. To tell people what they can/cannot put in their own bodies. To conjure trillions of currency units out of thin air.

But this current system can’t last.

It requires economic stability to self-sustain. And it’s already at the point where those in power have to resort to desperate tactics.

Their desperation has them coming up with ever-more creative ways to conjure economic growth. Plus they’re feeding on the tax revenues from entire generations that won’t even be born for decades.

This simply cannot sustain. Whether it happens today, tomorrow, 10 days from now, 5 years from now… is irrelevant. What’s important is the trend. It’s happening.

This is fundamentally good news. Yes, every shred of evidence suggests that the old system is on the way out. And that’s a bit scary. The unknown is always uncertain.

But what will come out on the other end will be better, brighter, and more free.

If you take a hunk of coal and put it under extreme pressure, you end up with a diamond.

Our entire civilization is being put under intense pressure. And what will come from this eventually is just as precious: a system where the individual has the power and freedom to choose. Where we are no longer viewed as government property.

In the meantime, it’s going to be a bumpy (and high-pressure) ride.

So for now, look at the objective data. Trust your senses about what’s happening. And don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.

P.S. To maintain the illusion of economic growth European countries now have to resort to such comical measures such as counting spending on drugs and prostitutes in their GDP numbers. Share these ridiculous "scientific" findings with your friends. They're bound to have a laugh.

    Until tomorrow,

Seriously, every word of that post is spot-on and so very important to understand.

We are not free. Lots of folks are complacent and brainwashed -too patriotic and proud to admit they've been hoodwinked.

A visa gift card would have solved that problem in five minutes. Buy the card for cash, use it to pay the fees, you are done. Go home.

    You're missing the point though,

"Instead, they force you to use the government-regulated (and protected) banking industry, whether you want to or not."

You are forced to use a method of payment that they dictate and it also costs you more due to credit card fees and interests. This is unacceptable in a "free" world.

It is the same with many products here in the US. I have dealt with businesses that do not deal in cash at all. With all other forms, there is a paper trail for better accounting.
It could have been payment only acceptable in gold or bartered goods.
All lotto products must be paid for in cash alone, (no credit cards or checks) because all sales are final, and because a cash sale, once finished, is done, while check or credit can be. Stopped, revoked, argued.
As to costing more, not really. If that is the only method of acceptable payment, then that amount never varies, no matter what the rate board shows.

Bank of America a few years back refused to accept my normal mortgage payment method of personal check for my final payment. They were good enough for 9 years on a 15 year loan. They also would not take it in Cash, or so they said. I paid by check all but $2.14. Then I went back as soon as I got my mortgage statement update. Memory is not clear, but I think the payoff was then $2.21. I showed up at the bank statement in hand along with exactly $2.21 in cash and stated I wanted to pay off my loan. They started their spiel about a cashiers check being required for payoffs. I requested a manager. I told him he could accept this US currency or expect a news crew for my next payment attempt. He accepted it. ....... they converted it themselves to a cashiers check at their cost (bs), and attached that to what they sent the home office. Smart man. I was tired of their constant BS.

I find solutions, not problems. Problems show up on their own.

No solution is necessary! On our currency it states "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE".
    .
What is there about that statement that is confusing to anyone?
    .
Next time I am confronted by some pencil pushing A-Hole who refuses to accept cash, I will leave quietly only to return with exact change to pay the bill and will start the conversation by requesting management and informing him this transaction is being recorded. He will accept payment with no excuse acceptable or be recorded failing to accept US currency full payment, at which time I will be properly prepared to have the debt forgiven in court. I am an olde contrary phart with plenty of time for tilting windmills.
    .
I will state loudly and on tape, this is your last chance to accept cash payment in full, should you decline I will consider the debt null and void, do you accept the cash or not?

Yep, being old and cantankerous is a perk as far as I'm concerned. I have no patience or care for fools. And I have the time to make them aware of my stance on stupidity, laziness, or uninformed arrogance. It doesn't always work but hey, it makes me happy.

If you don't mind the time involved, go for it. (I'm known for making warrentees scream for mercy) however, you old pharts are that much closer to the grave.....what is that wasted time worth to you?

Wasted? As I said it doesn't always work. But sometimes it does. If you can get some bozo to do their job right, use common sense, or actually wake up long enough to learn something the time isn't wasted. Besides, you young whippersnappers are far to busy gaining life experiences that we already have to be tied up with the light work. ;)

    Cash=freedom, anonymity
Credit/debit cards, electronic transfers etc. = enslavement, .gov tracking, records and surveillance.

Cash is freedom and systematically being eliminated from our ever controlled world.

You are buying a passport. They already KNOW who, what, when where and why. This is a non-starter issue.

The bigger picture. Many people refuse to use credit cards because they don't care to have every transaction they make recorded. It's about freedom not convenience.

Smaller picture. I'm one of them. ( I will use a gift card, if I must make an online purchase)
Point one) they already know exactly who you are, because of what you are buying (a passport)
Point two) a gift card is anonymous. At the very most, they have your purchase on video surveillance. (Again, it doesn't matter, you are buying a passport with photo).
Point three) this is tilting at windmills, for there is a simple workaround. Pick your battles. You will mark yourself more by loud noises, than by using logic as a lever. For the purchase of a passport (this example) the outrage is just smoke and mirrors, it serves no purpose. Why step boldly into a face to face fight with a much bigger opponent, when you can sidestep and flank them without even slowing down?
