A gun is only a tool. If you can't do the work, put the tool away, until a true craftsman can teach you how to use it.
I have open carried. I used to deliver pizzas, along time ago. Six attempted muggings In route before I carried, none while I carried. (One drunken party with guns at delivery point, excluded.)
Even if open carry were legal here I wouldn't. Let them guess which ones are targets or not. There was a thread here sometime back about the "tells" of concealed carry. Sometimes there are, sometimes not. The more experienced you are the less you can be spotted..... usually.While they are concentrating on the open carried weapon I can chose MY course of action.
Most pizza delivery personnel are teen agers. What percentage of those at risk, do you think could get a CCW. I INFORMED a cop I was carrying and would continue to do so as my Right. He then assisted me, to make sure I complied with the law in not being partially concealed. (Plain sight means fully exposed). I never heard of CCW's until I was much older. Mugging attempts before the gun, meant hand to hand combat with knives, or if I made it back to my car, quarterstaff. When I delivered, the gun was in the palm of my hand under the pizza. (No one ever knew it was there until that drunken party.)
In my AO, I have open carried often enough that the local folks know I'm armed, even if concealed. Out of my AO, I haul out the shirt tails, and don't pay attention to whether it's printing or not. Open is legal in these parts, and if it shows, no one bats an eye.
Not denigrating your choice kell just stating my choice. Again tho here in Texas open carry of handguns is illegal unless commissioned. Why everyone thinks Texans are so free is beyond me.
I conceal carry pretty much every day and most anywhere regardless of the business signage, though I try not to purchase anything due to their anti-gun stance. My job takes me into a lot of grey areas in the region where I would not go unarmed from the truck to the building.... life in the big city. I would much prefer to be a surprise to a bad guy vs the first target he goes after....open carry puts a target on your back IMO. The only time I open carry is when I am going to the range, or if I have my jacket off when I am carrying on the hip in the winter months. Here in Washington we are okay to open carry without a permit, but when you go into a store on the West side of the state (Seattle metro) you invariably get the goofy eye from some liberal thinking you are going to shoot up the joint. Now you have them wack job anti-gunners calling the cops on you if they see a weapon...... making a false report of a crime in progress. Not worth that confrontation with the cops due to open carry in this heated environment now days....right or wrong, it is what it is. The worst part of the state law is the ban on CC when in a bar, even if you are not drinking. I see guys sometimes in a bar with an empty open carry holster. This immediately tells bad guys that you do have a weapon in the car but you are unarmed..... I would rather not advertise either way, that I am obeying the law or ignoring it. Best to be judged by 12... than to be carried by 6 to the grave.......

Yup, that's the problem with open carry. So apart from the bravado what ya gonna do when the perp and friends has his own gun pointed at your face and wants yours.
It is the exact same problem you have when an armed thug wants your wallet. You have to decide how to react. It makes no difference what the valuable IS, it matters if you will let them have it. Having a gun makes you a harder target, but you are always a target.
To carry open or not to to carry that might be the question... do not carry at all have access to less conspicuous weapons all day long.... I leave mine at AO I also take very good sitreps my coworkers and everyday joes tell me everything i need to know about where can access theirs if i ever have need for them ....move communicate until you can shoot move and communicate...lol
