This is an extra tax rip off to start with, but I am more concerned about privacy issues. Everywhere you drive will be logged. If this happens leaving you cell home or taking the battery out of it will not matter as long as your in your vehicle. This works OK, if you live close to the border with Oregon or Nevada. Just drive to a neighboring State to fill up!
Like pigs to the trough.... I actually pay state employees to think up new ways to tax me... Maybe if we just fired these guys they wouldn't need the tax revenue to pay their wages? I swear these guys stay up all night wringing their hands if some other state can push through a tax that they don't have.

They are not planning on using your cell to track your miles, to easy to cheat. The GPS unit will be part of your vehicle and most likely disabling it would be noticed by the computer and shut the vehicle down.
all this because people are driving less, buying fuel efficient vehicles, buying electric vehicles and revenue from gasoline is dropping off. It is time to end the dependency of government on my money!
I'm sure they would make you have a GPS unit installed so you can be screwed like everyone else. Good thing is you can have your mechanic friend install it with quick disconnects for when you are out and about. Naw, they would calculate a yearly minimum, with penalties for overages, and attachment of your tax returns, until payment is up to date. No sliding when .gov wants your money.
