Initiative 594 is one of the most draconian “universal background check” laws anywhere, and it just passed in Washington State. For some examples of how ridiculous this law is, please see here. On the flip side, the passing of I-591 would have caused a direct conflict with I-594 and tied things up in court, while attempting to protect the rights of Washingtonians by preventing firearms confiscation without due process and by preventing WA from enacting firearms regulations stricter than Federal regs. Unfortunately, it has been voted down. The 2014 midterms have not been good for gun rights in Washington State.

There is plenty of fixing to do in Washington. Start with recalls then repeal 594. Test it in the Supreme Court and stall implementation until it can be declared unconstitutional.

And Oregon legalized recreational marijuana!! Sheesh!

One of the reasons I moved out of Washington State back in '91... To get away from all the Kommiefornia Liberals that were moving North to get away from the Mexicans coming into to take over that State. Now I really don't want to even visit Washington, for more than a couple weeks at a time....

Can anyone confirm that this is true concerning 594:

Technically it is true.... on the extreme end for sure.... but via the statue.... I can not let you handle it until you have been checked..... B.S. right.
Now if we are at a licensed firing range, I can let you handle the weapon per one of the exceptions allowed.... but not out in the woods... stupid.

And on top of that are all the fee's that you will have to pay the FFL for the background check...
I still need to figure out the potential of a use tax charge based on the firearm value.... that would potentially be unconstitutional.... this item for sure would be challenged if that is the case.

    I-594 passes

My heart sank last night as I was leaning over the shoulder of a Second Amendment Foundation employee staring at the computer screen. It was 8:12 and the preliminary results of I-591 and I-594 were finally showing up. I expected 594 to pass so I was not surprised. I was surprised however at how much it passed by. At first the 591 results were in our favor. About 5 minutes later the numbers turned drastically. We were down 45%. It stayed that way the entire evening. As of this morning the final results for 591 are not in. It is too close to call. As of last night there were still about 300,000 votes to count and 10% of those were from King County. Which means the other 90% are from outside counties which usually vote for gun rights. But are those counties on the edge of King or other side of the state? We will see. Well, now what?

If 591 fails we are in big trouble. Of course there are statements that [IMG]SAF will take 594 to court. They have a very successful track record of overturning laws in many states. But Bloomberg’s Wa Alliance For Gun Responsibility has bottomless funding and is already anticipating a fight. I am more concerned about how many gun owners voted for 594. Did we not just see that the horrible tragedy in Marysville would not have been prevented even with this law? Gabby Gifford’s attacker bought his gun legally. The Sandy Hook guns were stolen. Almost every single one of the “mass shootings” suspects bought guns passing background checks or stole the guns. This law would not have prevented any single one of those. Now for those of us law abiding gun owners in Washington it is we that are screwed here. There are so many “unintended consequences” in this bill it makes the Health Care bill seem manageable. It is so narrow that LE and Military are barley exempt. It is so narrow that even in the gun store the employee can’t hand me a gun to look at. Forget about my livelihood and my hobbies.

The rifles the we as coaches loan out to the new junior shooters and new competitors will have to be returned. We will have to shut down the program. No more coaching. The parents and their kids who wanted to get involved in a shooting sport and can’t afford the gear yet are hosed. Sorry to all of my friends that wanted me to teach them safe gun handling and go recreational shooting. We will be criminals now. Sorry to any over 18 year old family member or friend that wants to go hunting with me and needs to borrow a gun. We will be criminals now. Sorry family members that I was planning on giving you a gift for self-defense or sport. We will be criminals now. Welcome to registration of your firearms. How else will they keep track of this stuff. Did you know that BC spent over $2 billion dollars over several years to implement this exact same law and they finally stopped it because it did not work and cost too much? It will not work! How many ways can I say that this is the most stupid and damaging and unenforceable law in the history of gun laws. There is a reason they are calling this the strictest gun law in the country. Because of the 18 pages of BS that only hurt citizens and not help with safety.

I can only pray our state supreme court has a brain left in them to see that this law is crap. Can you tell I am upset this morning? Sorry, this is my space to rant and vent. And I am not done. The fight begins.

Gotta ask, is 594 really a law yet, or just the electorate telling the assembly to make one?

Sad news. Well said @BTPost. When James Wesley Rawles of SurvivalBlog.com included Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon in the American Redoubt vote-with-your-feet movement concept, I wondered how long that would last given the ageing and/or retired liberal Commifornia transplants heading north to escape both the Mexicanization of the State and the economic results of the bankrupt Welfare-Nanny State these tax 'n spend big government leftists created.

Sen. Harry Reid Falls from His Throne; House Reinforced with Pro-gunners

    Dear American Redoubt,

As you have no doubt heard, Republicans successfully took control the U.S. Senate last night, and in the process, dethroned one of the most anti-gun Majority Leader’s in the history of the Upper Chamber. As of now, the Republicans hold a 53-seat majority, although they may gain another seat in Louisiana.

Voters across the United States stood against President Barack Obama’s policies and, in doing so, have elected candidates who will stand up for the Second Amendment.

We now have more new pro-gun Senators and Congressmen heading to Capitol Hill to aid as reinforcements in the battle to protect our right to keep and bear arms.

GOA’s Political Victory Fund was proud to endorse a number of these new pro-gun Senators -- men and women who will stand up for the Second Amendment and for the freedom of firearms ownership.

Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Arkansas, Iowa, and Nebraska Get New Pro-Gun Senators

Dan Sullivan defeated anti-gunner Mark Begich in Alaska after a tight race in which many thought Begich was sure to win.

Dan received an “A” rating from GOA because he supports good pro-gun legislation such as the right to carry -- and opposes gun control measures like the so-called “assault weapons” ban and universal background checks.

Former Sen. Mark Begich was “D” rated with GOA. Among his many anti-gun votes were his support for anti-gun Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. Both are rabidly anti-gun and are now serving permanent positions on the Supreme Court -- thanks, in part, to Begich. Many Court watchers expect that over the next two years, there will almost certainly be at least one new Supreme Court Justice nominated by President Obama.

In Montana, former Rep. Steve Daines cruised to victory, easily beating his anti-gun opponent, Amanda Curtis, by a margin of 57—40. Anti-gun Sen. John Walsh decided not to run for reelection after he was caught up in a plagiarism scandal.

GOA endorsed Steve early in his campaign and worked closely with him during his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has proven himself to be a staunch Second Amendment supporter, and he will bring a much needed pro-gun vote and leadership to the Senate.

After spending months being trashed in the media and being told he had no chance at winning, Rep. Cory Gardner defeated Sen. Mark Udall in Colorado, as the residents of the Centennial State fired their one term incumbent.

As Senator, Udall joined other Democrats by voting for the anti-gun Sotomayor and Kagan as Justices to the Supreme Court. Not only that, he voted with anti-gun President Obama 99% of the time and was endorsed by the anti-gun (former) New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In contrast, Cory Gardner has been a stalwart defender of the Second Amendment while serving in Congress, and now that he is serving in the U.S. Senate, Colorado gun owners have one pro-gun Senator they can depend on.

In Arkansas, anti-gun Senator Mark Pryor tumbled to defeat as the voters in his state threw their support behind Rep. Tom Cotton. Tom has been a Second Amendment advocate in Congress, co-sponsoring national concealed carry reciprocity and H.R. 35, which would repeal the gun free school zones ban.

During his tenure in the Senate, Mark Pryor consistently voted against the rights of law-abiding gun owners. For example, he voted for a veteran’s gun ban (in 2013) that would send a person to prison for 15 years for selling a firearm to a veteran, without realizing that he was one of the 175,000-plus military veterans who was put into the NICS system for PTSD.

Tom Cotton ran on constitutional principles and on his sound voting record, which helped him defeat the heavily-entrenched Pryor by 17 points.

When longtime anti-gunner Sen. Tom Harkin decided he would not seek reelection in 2014, Second Amendment advocates breathed a sigh of relief. Although, most pundits assumed that his equally anti-gun House counterpart, Bruce Braley, would crush any competition in the race and become Iowa’s next Senator.

But State Senator Joni Ernst threw her hat into the ring and emerged out of a crowded primary field earlier this year. Boasting a pro-gun voting record while in the Iowa State Senate, Joni used the last two months of the campaign to steadily gain ground on Bradley, eventually taking the lead in the polls and winning by 8.5 points.

In Nebraska, Ben Sasse comfortably defeated Dave Domina by more than 30 points once the race was called. GOA endorsed Ben early on in his primary, given that he has put forward a strong pro-gun message.

After cruising to victory on Election Day, Ben will now head to Washington, D.C., to join fellow pro-gun Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer in the fight to protect our God-given Second Amendment rights.

Victory in the House: Pro-gun Message Carries Candidates to Success

Victory wasn’t limited to the U.S. Senate only. GOA also endorsed numerous non-incumbent candidates running in open seats or against anti-gun incumbents.

These new pro-gun U.S. House members include:

    Ken Buck in CO-04

    Jody Hice in GA-10

    Dave Brat in VA-07

    Alex Mooney WV-02

    Rob Blum in IA-01

    Steve Knight in CA-25

    Frank Guinta in NH-01

    Lee Zeldin in NY-01

Many, many other pro-gun House incumbents also won their reelection campaigns, and GOA looks forward to our continued relationship with their offices.

It is paramount that solid constitutional Members maintain a strong presence in the House to keep Speaker Boehner and the Republican Leadership accountable. Gaining these eight new pro-gun representatives will provide much needed reinforcements to the pro-Second Amendment congressmen who are already there.

After spending millions of dollars spewing lies to the American public, Michael Bloomberg and the gun control movement lost heavily this election cycle. (His one notable victory took place in Washington State, but even that battle showed the weakness of the anti-gun movement.) The myth that running a campaign supporting the Second Amendment evaporated at the polls.

Anti-gun incumbents repeatedly were met with defeat as their pro-gun counterparts crushed them, often times by double digit percentage points.

GOA will now focus efforts on holding these men and women accountable as they serve the citizens who sent them to Capitol Hill to protect this country and uphold their constitutional oath.

Please help Gun Owners of America with a generous contribution so that we can continue to fight President Obama and make sure that the gun control movement doesn’t gain more ground.

I am disappointed in Montana conservatives' margin of victory over this extreme leftist hippy Amanda Curtis. I watched some of her scary YouTube videos and didn't think such a Berkeley California type of hippy chick would get many votes.

Yet, she got 40% of the votes! :-( Scary! That's why I think the true free state bastion within the American Redoubt movement is Idaho and Wyoming. Montana is sadly becoming too much of a 'Purple' swing state as more of those wealthy leftist Hollywood-type Southern Commiefornistan Kalifornicators move to Montana (massively driving up land prices) and try to make it into the new liberal paradise to escape the effects of what they themselves created.

My comment is in response to this from the great "Defenders of the Faith" GOA:
"In Montana, former Rep. Steve Daines cruised to victory, easily beating his anti-gun opponent, Amanda Curtis, by a margin of 57—40. Anti-gun Sen. John Walsh decided not to run for reelection after he was caught up in a plagiarism scandal." Source: Gun Owner's of America

Wow . . . I find it incredible that the people of Alaska would give an anti-gunner a job. Something like this prop 591/4 would so drastically alter Alaskans' way of life that they would feel like they were in a dream.

Some people are really stupid and ignorant of the world around them.

Not so Incredible, REALLY... Sonny, Mark comes from a LONG Line of Alaskan Politicos, and he IS a Gun Owner, and Hunter, on occasion. He DID vote against the Federal Background Check Bill last year, and was one of two Dems that did so, and allowed the filibuster of the Bill to Stand..... He did so simply because if he had voted FOR it, He would have been LYNCHED, on his next visit Home, period, and his constituents (Me Included) sent him plenty of Letters, and eMails, telling him so. After the ruckus that blew up, when he voted for the ACA, (ObamaCare) which was the vote that SUNK his Reelection, he figured that with this vote, he HAD TO go against Uncle Harry and Mr. Pres..... Still in ALL we are very Happy to kick that Idiot out the Door, and plenty of Alaskans have been telling him so, on hos FaceBook Page for a couple of years, now. In fact I posted on his page, LAST NIGHT, when it was clear he would lose. "To Bad for You, Dude, Hope you packed your Bags."

Montana isn't the Montana of my youth. Not from there, but half of my relatives are still there. The bigger cities are chock full of vacation houses by people far richer than the long time natives. It's getting as bad as the PNW, where those tiny blue liberal areas are starting to outnumber those much larger rural red areas. The last time I drove through Bozeman there were more German luxury sport utes than beat up old pickup trucks. Livingston has finally been made, and if you want a real thrill drive through Gardiner.

I grew up outside of Bozeman, and we continually watched the movie stars buy vacation homes in the Gallatin Valley.... that was back in the 80's..... they have been encroaching on the country for some time... sad to watch my home county become a liberal bastion in that state........
