What are you using for your tactical shotgun and how do you have it set up?

Here is a pic of my Mossberg 590 with the reinforced barrel, door breacher, side saddle, and black hawk collapsible stock kit. The stock kit takes about 80% of the recoil and is a dream to shoot. I have a simple Barska red-dot in this pic.... I ran 9 rounds of slug through it in rapid fire and the glass cracked... oh well. It was fun for $40 and lasted until I put it into extreme action. Running 8+1 PDX defender buck& ball and slug alternating with 5 extra in the saddle.... and the ability to add to the sling if I wanted... though she becomes a bit heavy at a point... ;)

Mine came with the pistol grip and I swapped it out for the tactical stock... it has the 18.5 barrel as well. I took it out and shot some trap with it.... shooting about 50%..ha ha.. gotta get on them quick with that short barrel for sure!!

There's an 870 in the locker, but the Chief of Home Defense is 357.

I'll tell you what.... How about a test where we shoot you with both, and you can then have a truly informed opinion as to which one is real? I have shotguns older than your grandfather that I would trust to function perfectly, every time. You ever heard of Sterlingworth, or A. H. Fox?

Before i got my ithaca i was shooting .410 and a .22. Back then i hunted often with older cousins and they all had 12 gauges and i wanted to shoot the big boy guns ( that is what my cousins call all calibers over .22, and the .410). When is was thirteen one of my cousins gave me that ithaca. He loaded it with target rounds and it kicked my butt, he knew even the target rounds were going to be rough on me. Did not get one bird that day and had a bruise that took a week to go away. Next hunt i brought both guns and used the .410, got two birds. Btw the one cousin that gave me the gun he gave all the other older kids a hard time because they all came up using the .410. I eventually grew into it and used it every bird hunt until i went to college. Btw the ithaca shoots much better imho

My Winchester 1300 Stainless 12Ga, lives on Pegs, above the Front Door.... Has a #9 LowBase in the Pipe, and alternating 00Buck and Slugs, thru the rest of the 8 shot Tube Magazine... The #9 is dusting a Bears Butt, and getting him going on his way, without doing any permanent Damage, and if he decides that he isn't in the mode to leave, the rest of the LoadOut, will certainly send him off to Bear Heaven, in a hurry. Oh Yea, It works on two Legged Varmints, just as well, as they have no Idea what the LoadOut is, when looking down the Wrong end of the Barrel...

Mossy 590A1 here with speedstock so there are 8 in the mag, one in the pipe and four in the stock. No sling to get in the way, ghost ring sights, 20" barrel, completely stock.

Took this to the range and it performed well. Cycle time with the pump is as smooth as butter and the pattern at 10 feet is about the size of a silver dollar!

the Winchester 1300 and it's cousin the 1200 don't get the recognition they deserve .... both are superior to the bally booed Mossberg 500 or even the Remington 870 .... great weapon that's long term proven in the law enforcing biz

  16. Mossy 500 here, iron sights, 8+1, all buckshot in the magazine, slugs in a 5 shell holder on the stock. All synthetic.

Illini Warrior, BTPost: Used to have a Winchester 1300 several years back. Absolutely loved it. It's a great tool.

  17. I think 12ga shotguns do most things inside 100 yards pretty well when capacity is not a big issue. Home defense?... sure, even a 20ga will do just fine in that role.

    I use a 20ga Weatherby

Benelli M2 Tactical with a 2 shot extension (7+1) using 12 pellet OO buck LE rounds for the house. If it's going on outside past 50 yards then the AR comes out.

While I have several shottys like many here, the "bed guns" are a pair of 870's. Mine is a 12 ga special purpose with iron sights, extended mag, sidesaddle and a speedfeed stock and pacmire(spelling sorry) fore end. First three in the pipe are #4 buck followed by 000. Sidesaddle holds 000 and slugs. I prefer the 000 in the home, which is where these are expected to be primarily deployed. The Nurse's is an express mag in 20 ga set up the same. My fav tac shotgun is one of my super 90's, but they are set up for another purpose. Like Max, I cast most of all my slugs/buckshot. That being said, I do use store bought buckshot/slugs at times.
