Way back when people used horses for locomotive power and transportation instead of tractors, cars and motorcycles; when a horse got the bit of the bridle in its teeth, you had no control and generally they went where they wanted as fast as they wanted without heed from the rider who was generally much more intelligent. Head strong, Hell bent, etc.....

I've been reading on these sites for 2 YEARS like i have been saying. but i just wanted to know other peoples opinions on this journey i am about to embark on and IF TEH SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAIN RANGES (WEST) ARE BETTER THAN MENDOCINO NATIIONAL FOREST (SNOW MOUNTAIN AND NORTH) OR IF I SHOULD GO UP FARTHER NORTH ( SIX RIVERS SHASTA TRINITY YOLLA BOLLY)

Men and women are not equal, not physically, not mentally. We do many of the same things well, but women handle G forces better than men, and make better pilots because of it, men have greater stamina, and usually much gretter strength. These are phyisical facts, and not open for dispute. Men and women think differently as well. We are not equal, but complimentary, we balance out eachother's strengths and weaknesses.
As for your bathing habits....look up a GI shower. Even those who share foxholes, may desire you need a bath, whether you like it or not. You were "unfresh" without bathing, and you will starve to death if you don't bathe (think about it). As for your electronic repellant, hunters have already tested it, they don't work, and the buzz sets some people's nerves on edge. Look into a Thermacell personal mosquito repellent. It is about the only thing that DOES work against them. And it requires pads and fuel cells.
As for dying...why bother finding a hard way to die? Why bother looking for the "better " park? You could just visit the zoo and climb into the bear cage like that crazy lady that thought the bears were waving at her to join them.
Never mind, just leave the guns and food behind, don't bother with the fire starters, just walk off into the snow then. Without knowledge, you stand about the same chance.
As for losing money for taxes, biglaff$100.00? You don't want to know how much more than that I pay every check!! Of course, that is because i earn more than minimum wage. Why? Because I know more than the minumum. Because I know more than my boss does about my job. You want to keep more of your money? Earn more, by learning more, and using that knowledge to gain more.
Did you know that recycling metals is tax free? It is an incentive to be green. I have several side jobs to augment my income, it means less free time, but more money.
You say you are being kicked out, because if the money dispute, or other issues? Why didn't you get the agreement recorded on paper or recording? If you had covered your butt, you would have been able to fight it simply by proving the terms.
I would suggest an open shelter, if you have nowhere else to go at the present time. Work every hour and angle you can to make some legal money, and learn everything you can about this endeveor first. What I am suggesting can be done, I did it. I was working five part-time jobs all at the same time for a summer. I averaged about 3 hrs sleep each night, at best, but I paid off bills, and got ahead. It ain't easy, but it can be done.
You have slept rough on concrete......that ain't right bright. Even a few pieces of cardboard would have made a big difference. There are atleast a dozen ways in the wild to make a better bed than concrete. But you wouldn't be here to learn them, because you will be tilting at windmills by charging off into the unknown, and unguessed.
No problem, at least you don't take someone else down with you. That is a blessing. It could have been nice knowing you, passing off bits and pieces that would have made life a joy, instead of a struggle to survive, but alass, you have made your decision, and I guess that will be that.... I hope that cool French inhale helps keep you warm.

Let's be real for a second. I typed that earlier post prior to seeing your declaration that you intend on dying in the wilderness. I have no respect for those that intend to off themselves either deliberately or through stupidity... done with this thread.... and your sad state of affairs... get it together, man up or bug-off.

  9. ok for the first part i meant spiritually not physically as we all are connected and nobody i above anybody else. omg i said the french inhale was a joke…. i wish i could absorb your knowledge over time also but if i do come back and make it ill be sure to rub it in your face when i come out all rambo n shit deer antlers as a hat looking like conan the barbarian

awwwww now that was mean you shouldn't care about me to begin with to be mad at me and why not respect my personal choices? and like i said before I'm not going into it with dying my mission but accept that will be the end result of me staying in the forest for my life. we all die sometime I've had an eventful and crappy at times life in which I've learned lots more then i wold have ever thought the world is in a bad place right now in terms of pollution war prophecies and overall well being. between martial law yellowstone nibiru emp's nukes iran china russia and our unpayable debt which leads to economic recession (not like in 2008 it will be 185% worse then the great depression and it will last 25 years) i could go on on about reptilians controlling our planet or about the super computer controlled by satan that watches everybody all the time (think the movie eagle eye) telepathically connected to every electronic device. but thank you all for your time helping me as i said i will be leaving soon so if anybody can tell me if stanislaus or mendocino has better small game more creeks streams drinkable water sources less population pollution toxic spills how the people are and just a better place to start this journey and stay in that 1 place for a few months :) thank you everybody!!

Seems to me, that you are "Running Away" from your life.... And I suspect it is because you have nothing better to look forward to.... No prospects, and few SkillSets, going forward. Living in the wilderness isn't easy, if fact it is very hard work.... I know, as I have "Been there, and Done that".... Here on the Monkey, we do not Ban Folks for being immature, or for having few SkillSets... We allow folks to discuss their issues freely, as long as they abide by the CoCs they agreed to, when signing up. You are more than welcome, here, and we hope you will avail yourself of the Knowledge Base, that the Monkey is, for your betterment. If some are critical of your decision making, it is because they likely have been down the road you are traveling, and wish to lend you some of the insights they have learned along the way....

I hate to be a wet blanket....but the wilderness is a tough road to hoe. If you intend doing it solo, dying may not be your mission, but none the less, it can end up being a terminal enterprise. Yes, living in the wilderness away from the rest of humanity can be an opportunity for personal growth and spiritual enlightenment...the thing to remember is that you will only have yourself to get yourself out of any trouble that you find yourself in; and the wilderness can be a very unforgiving mistress. Make a bad call, have an accident, become ill, be attacked by a wild creature, become snowed in...or have your exfil route cut off by flood, run out of food...and what may start out as a great adventure, can become material for someone else's documentary film. The dead may create the story, but they don't get the royalties for being the subject of it.

By all means...let your spirit of adventure take you out of your comfort zone, but go appropriately equipped, supplied, trained, and physically, and mentally prepared.

I can recommend to you consideration of the case of Christopher McCandless. His story has become grist for a documentary film, a book and many journal articles.

You would be well served getting some counseling, before you do anything! I have a 23 year old son who suffers from Depression and OCD, sounds a lot like you when he watches too much Alex Jones. Your at a very fragile and scary age, but hell man, your just getting started!
    THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!!!
Most here, if not all, are a little bit paranoid about recent events, with good reason, and most of the main characters are over 40+ and some of us, way more than that.
What is being offered is done out of concern for the fellow man here, some is just bloviating, but almost all the people I see on this forum, even those I disagree with, are genuinely good hearted individuals!
There is no shame in seeking help!

  14. hahahahaa what you don't like alex jones? he is one of my favorite people (and now your judgement on me is forever cast) i bet your son dosent have ocd or depression. i was diagnosed with adhd and add and depression …i never had it it was forced to take medicine in the 7th grade paxil prozac the workshttp://Making a Killing: The Untold Story of Psychotropic Drugging [DVD]: L Hubbard: 9781403167453: Amazon.com: Books
this documentary if you look it up (which i highly doubt you will) reveals the whole industry of drugging america. everything is not what you seem i used to think it was stupid when people used to say " we live in the matrix" but as i have grown older i have discovered very blatantly and fast we do in fact "live in the matrix"

could you connect me with your son so we could talk? or would you never let me talk to him because i would encourage his " horrible and anxiety inducing crazy conspiracy beliefs" ?

and no it will not "pass" i am doing this in the next few weeks and it will happen thought i did just hang out with somebody who said they were sick so i might succumb to flulike symptoms in the coming days which i hope dosent happen

I was referring to the feelings of hopelessness! You are of legal age to be accountable for any decision you choose, go get you some!
I was merely pointing out that decisions made in haste usually turn out bad! Late teens to early 20's are rough for everyone, but that doesn't mean you have to do it alone, but yes, the more I read what you post the more I am convinced that your watching to much Alex! [peep]
Go and do it if that's what you've got in mind to do, but there is a lot of documentation on people in crisis reaching out for help out of desperation. Life is short anyway no sense in making it shorter if you can help it!

Give life a chance kid. It does get better. Also, I agree about laying off the Alex jones for a while.

Well, if you were to determine the launch off into the wilderness like a lone wolf, with a 22lr, I think you should consider a tactical wheelbarrow, and a barkless small dog as a personal guard.they don't eat much, and it might wake you in time to survive an animal attack.

You don't get an answer to that question for several reasons. First and foremost, no one here will do the research on those two forests to advise you, mostly because they don't care which you pick or are as unfamiliar with them as you are. That is your job, to determine which meets your needs and knowledge. Therefore, flipping a coin will do you just as well as taking advice from people that might just lead you astray; in any case, someone else's reasoning and justification is OPSEC for most and not open for discussion by most Monkeys. (So head off the the Jim Bridger Wilderness in Wyoming or the High Uinta in Utah, says me, and forget the CA crowds. Why do I say that? OPSEC, it's my business, my choice and justifications, not yours.)

Additionally, you keep pushing for folks to pick knives, machetes, guns and other things you have for choices rather than doing the research and using it for your own selections for your own purposes. Again, the pros and cons for each and every choice you have asked about (except your favorite forests) are available here on the Monkey, and no one here will pick something out for you. Read instead of posting; if you have time to post up, you have time to read. Reading on this site will be far more beneficial than posting questions and horribly reasoned answers to both advice and criticism given you in good faith.

Little wonder to me that you got yourself banned from other sites for being less than courteous. Here, less than courteous (unless egregious) is insufficient to get banned as you should know if you bothered to read the CoC that you accepted when joining. Read it again.

Now then, here's advice you don't want, but I'll put it out there anyway, you will do what you want regardless. Hit the help wanted ads and find a job in Montana or North Dakota gas and oil fields, they pay well. (No, I'm not going to give you any job leads, that's your job to find them.) Sell everything you don't need and head up there for work. While working, take a correspondence course in English usage (especially writing) and salt away as much money as you can possibly put away for your adventure, and do some research on whatever area you might like to get to eventually. Also, use some time off for practice camping and hiking in the real world rather than in books and vids. (Your 50 lb ruck is going to slow you down far more than you think. Fake it with a cinder block on a pack frame while hiking to see what I'm telling you, and you can make it more realistic with a ten pound dumbell in your hand to simulate a rifle.)

Use your youth and eagerness to learn, not to find a new (old, actually) ways to die alone. Recovery is possible if you recognize reality before choosing an almost sure way to lose a bet on your unprepared life.

@chelloveck Those were my thoughts exactly . . . although stated much more eloquently than me.

@theojysofliving To add to Chell's comments: being alone in the wilderness is very romantic (in the literature sense). That is, until that 40lb pack digs into your skin and you've been wet for days straight and have dysentery even though you thought you purified the water.

Being outdoors is fun. Surviving outdoors is tough as hell, especially given your starting specs.

Ever though about joining the military? It might give your life some meaning. Seriously . . . think about it.
Mountain Warfare Training Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Best advice you could get.

Experience is you best teacher. Get some camping under your belt and you won't need to ask questions. You'll know exactly what works for you . . . and you'll probably realize why machetes are much better suited to climes closer to the equator.

I used to hear "youth is wasted on the young," or something to the effect. You don't know why until you get older and your pre-frontal cortex goes from jelly to something more useful. What's lacking in those years is planning (thinking ahead) and the reality of your own mortality and the experience that gives you the knowledge that the world is a dangerous and unforgiving place. Until that realization is met, you're doing a dangerous dance with natural selection.

Word for the day, which epitomizes youth: insouciant

OK, here we have a guy that's never camped a day in his life, and he thinks he is going to survive in the wilderness...

I think we have another Darwin award winner here.

My advice to you is practice first, a few days at a time, perhaps a week, and remember there are no girl friends in the wilderness.
