Well gents it has been months since Microsoft stopped supporting me and my machine is still here and still functioning fine. Im using good anti spyware and virus stuff sop that helps. Just dropping in to say Windows 9 is almost out. Im going to bypass windows 7 and milk 9 for at least a decade.

I've got vista on this lap top. We're going to upgrade the home PC soon but not really sure what to get or what OS we'll be using.

Take a look at the history of Windows OS:
    3.1 Good
    95 Sucked
    98 Good
    2000/ME Sucked
    XP Good
    Vista Sucked
    7 Good
8 Depends on your perspective (I don't care for it)
    9. Hmmmm...

    Have fun.

I have win 8 on three other machines and it is a challenge... it may not have some security issues, but it sure has some frustrations in the day to day operation.

We had Xp and it was great. Ended up up-grading to 7. I don't know why they need to keep changing things.

Im waiting for 9 so I dont get caught up in the same deal with 7 . If I buy 7 now and they end it in a couple years Ill have to buy 9 anyway so Im skipping 7 . I have talked to a P.C. tech at Staples and he tells me 9 is a lot like 7 and pretty bullet proof.

There will not be Windows 9, they went strait to version 10. They has a beta for down load.

Luvs me 7, will hold on as long as it's supported, then look to 10.

Really liking the 10 beta. Seems to be the best of 8 with a decidedly 7 feeling interface.

That sounds pretty good for 10. I like 7 because of the similarity to XP interface, beats the snot out of Vista that I have on the laptop. When 10 is released, I'll probably upgrade both machines. (Here's hoping the laptop has the snort to run it efficiently.)

That is nice to hear. The windows 8 user interface is designed for 8 year olds with a touch screen tablet. Sucks when trying to use it all day at work. Microsoft persists in figuring something out that works for users, change it the next version to something harder to use, only to return on the version after that to near the original interface. They do it with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, about everything.

Same with this laptop. It still works OK, and honestly I just use it for this and my ballistic stuff mainly. I know I'm kinda simple-minded when it comes to 'puters, but I miss 98 2nd...;)

I just dislike the dropping of DOS compatability...way too many ham radio programs were designed to run in a DOS environment and that is my reason for maintaining older Win versions.

BTW, I don't consider W2K in the "sucks" category. It was one of the most stable versions of its time...at least the Pro version.

I have been through DOS 5.0, DOS 6.22, win 3.11, win 95, win 98se, win me, win xp, win 7 and win 8. I have resorted to having a stack of hard disks next to the computer and plug in the drive with the OS I feel like running, or need to run. I have 7 on my gaming drive, and run it on the net some. I find that I run Linux Mint more then anything else now. I really wish there was an alternative for the PC to run games that were coded for windows. Simraceway and the Fallout franchise are really the only things keeping me on windows.

Yeah like we determined that people wanted to double space in Word, so we made that the default... WTF?

Started using pooters many moons ago--think the first was a 286. Thinking PC-1 and 2s were coming out along then. They all used the big floppy disks and a telephone interface you actually cradled your hand set into. Went to a night class to learn simple use but by the time the class was over the system was obsolete.

I still have one of those acoustic modems around in a box some where.

Running Visa Home premium with a dual boot into Fedora at home. And honestly, for what I use the PC for, Vista works. I like the Linux OS better but others in the house don't, and I need to run MS VisualStudio occasionally for work. Yes I know I can create a windows environment in Linux, but the dual boot option is easier for me.

On my work laptop, I was just "upgraded" to 8.1. While it's ok, there are some quirks I really don't like. I don't understand the OS "native" mode on some programs which runs in fullscreen, no window, the program just uses the full screen. The "Start" menu is OK, once I got used to it and learned how to put my frequently used programs on the main page.

I still remember my first PC that I bought, a 486DX2. It had a 340MB hard drive and I didn't think I would ever fill it up. Running DOS 6.2 & Win 3.1, ah the memories :)

It is now The end of February 2015 and my Windows XP-PRO is still working great. I am still getting updates to my browser ,flash player and anti virus and I added spy hunter to remove adware. I completely cleaned it out and it doesnt even get warm now. I have no reason to upgrade yet. We backed up any important files and are setting our sights on Windows 10.
