  1. hey guys i went on a hike yesterday in the tilden regional park in the berkeley hills. it was pretty cool i had a little trouble finding it but was directed by some nice locals and hiked for a few miles. i tried a replicate the weight of my supplies by bringing all of my food and socks and about 20 25 ounces of water (honey water which is one of the yes things ever when you have a almost empty jar of honey just fill it with water shake it let it sit for a while and its the best water ever so sweet and refreshing especially ice cold.)Tilden Regional Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia it was kinda colt and very muddy but i hiked for a few miles and it as very fun i loved being in the nature and it was so beautiful the air was so clean and i feel i would have no problem living in the woods by myself i only had a small breakfast and hiked for miles and walked for even more miles so i don't require as much food as normal people and only had a little over a liter of water most of the day and felt fine. i can upload a video of the brief walk of the trails i video taped :). i hope to go back soon since i have the trail map and found some neat long looking trails :) thanks guys. and i called the mendocino district office they were helpful and every thing seems to be going as planned...

the recent torrential rains toppled a few trees and a part of a hillside i videotaped too!

Did you work on any survival task while on your excursion. Maybe purify some water, start a fire, prepare a hasty shelter?

  3. no if you looked at the area its quite small and has many regulations i don't think you can even build a fire let alone camp its only around 700 acres . theres a small farm for little kids and its awesome you can feed cows and other barn animals ( did it when i was a kid very fun) and a merry go around (out of commissions i think) a swimming lake and it leads into wildcat canyon regional park where i did some hiking when i was 13. no survivalist tasks except leading myself inadvertently in a loop back around and got out early! got a good sense of direction like i said. you aren't allowed off trails too so i couldn't even explore :(.

At least you are getting out there. You need do get some camping under your belt though. Even just starting small and single overnight trips. They don't have to be in the wilderness, a backyard will do.

  5. thats wat i was thinking last night hmmmm…
it wouldn't be the same though because i live in a very very warm climate its dead winter and i can walk around with no shirt on. people here are lucky. i like toughing it out though i spent many nights waiting for a ride for hours in pouring rain completely soaked head to toe so i can handle some water. i saw a 5 to 0 degree sleeping bag at big 5 for 30 bucks seemed nice. do u wana see my video! its hard to watch because I'm well…hiking the whole time but i find an eroded hillside and a few caved in trees!

When you wander in circles (On trails no less !) you do NOT have a "good sense of direction".

If you go into the backcountry, you will die.

You should have everything you need in your pack to stop where you are, at any time.

  10. yeah i know but heres the thing. i know that if i continuously hike that I'm going to get hot and if i keep hiking the cold won't bother me so i hiked quickly and it only bothered my when i briefly rested and when i started again the freezing sweat soaked back of my shirt wasn't the best feeling. this was only a small hike too i only brought things to weigh down my bag and my super bulky jacket just didn't fit and i had a bike some of the way. there aren't any places within like 100 miles of here where you can actually camp and make a fire.

No fires allowed I'm California, true. They have way too many wild fires as it is. All the more important that YOU HAVE THE PROPER CLOTHING. You are a battery that will run down, you have no choice, it will happen. And you will stop generating as much heat. You will cool quickly because you are wet. You CAN die of exposure in California. I lived there for five years, and mountains are much cooler than cities.
You want to wiegh down you pack with the right weight? Simple, weight it with the right stuff in the first place. Don't load it with rocks so you have no room for a jacket! You NEED a way to stay warm. You NEED to be able to eat. You NEED water, you NEED shelter of some sort (perhaps a one man Baker tent) you NEED the ability to make fire, even if you can not use it, where you are. In an emergency, the needs of survival supersede the regulations. There will be consequences for your actions, but you will have your day in court.
As for your having already bought all your supplies.......you have enough for (at most) a week. Most likely less.
Is this enough to last you to the end of your woods roaming days?

At your current level of competence? Perhaps.

Tell you what. I used to backpack a lot as a young adult. I was a boyscout as well. I will see if I still have my one man Baker tent. If I do, you can PM me an address, and I will mail it to you. You have a better chance of staying alive with the proper gear. And a three man tent is more weight, and less space in your pack.
But I meant what I said..."winter is for experts". You will die without more training than you are showing.

  16. hmmmmmm you know i would jstu to prove you wrong but i would get harassed by the police

i got my rights severely violated by a cop and threatened and punked and felt like a bi7*h and was scared to go out on my bike rides at night i would go on every other night and that made me hate the system so much more

Did you have lights and reflectors on your bike? They are required to keep you alive, and to prevent other people from having accidents because they can't see you well enough.

@theojysoflivin , you may have not noticed but people are trying to help you. foosed

I was going to suggest you ditch the tent for a tarp.
Urethane coated backpacking tarp <---Much lighter than a tent and moar versatile.
