An alternative to making petroleum jelly and cotton ball fire starters. Note the safety precautions.

setting fire to his apartment patio is nothing compared to some of the other UTube genius wanna be's .... it's pretty damn hard to beat someone brewing up poison death cloud on their kitchen stove ....

When I get those "I wonder what would happen if I" moments I go to youtube first out of a strong sense of self preservation. [nono][sinking]..............unless Jim Beam has been involved. Then it does no good.

My wife used to purchase leftover candles from the stores just after Christmas (cheap). She then melted them down in an old crockpot and added lint from the clothes dryer screen until it formed a thick paste. She poured the paste into old muffin tins, placed a popsicle stick in the center and and allowed them to cool. We had fire starters that burned for a good ten minutes or so.
To use them, I turned them upside down with a bunch of sticks in a fire pit, lit the easy-to-ignite popsicle stick allowing it to burn up to the wax/lint mixture. They worked well, don't degrade with long term storage and are a bit safer than napalm.

    Speaking of napalm...

I wonder if one was to tweak the recipe in the OP would one might have a better fuel for this DIY flamethrower?

"Better" as in; it keeps burning (longer) on whatever it lands on once the trigger is released.

It would make clearing snow off the driveway so much moar fun. [tongue]

I had to try this just once, for educational purposes only. I was absolutely amazed at how much styrofoam you could dissolve in a quart jar of gasoline. The stuff was alright. Not sticky enough. Some powdered laundry detergent may have helped with that.

I grew up at a time and in a place where I was free. I experimented with lots of stuff, from an early enough age that Dad was often the one lighting the fuse and making elevation corrections. Black powder, mercury, acids, gasoline, high voltage and powerful engines are all things to be respected and tamed, not feared. Alcohol is another of those things.
