An interesting read into the current state of the global economy:

Hey, they already said that there is no possible way for Japan to pay off it's sovereign debt. Their savings rate has gone negative. And still it continues.

They could keep this up for years and years.

It takes just one major to get into the life boat.

That is when the Titanic starts the plunge. But the band will keep playing on.

You are so correct about Japan. How can it continue? I question that often. Mathematically it makes no sense. I had thought when Russia and China made the deal to bypass the dollar that we would have had some effect but nothing. In fact, since then our gas has dropped considerably and people are putting those extra dollars into the system. I took macro and micro economics and love both classes but nothing make sense. Half the sites on the web say the economy is the best it has ever been then other articles like the one above say something different. What is the truth?

I know I have posted before but this video from 2011 was what started me on the road to getting prepared:

The system is broken, and those that are in the position to make money are doing just that. The rest of us are "investing" into things that will evaporate as soon as the market collapses. We will have been financially stripped of what we have, and they will have gold in the vault, position and power over the rest of us. A socialistic utopia don't you know....

The sites that say the dollar/investments are good, are just trying to suck every lost drop out of the people until that moment when they take the money and run. When the market crashes and the banks freeze accounts... it will be fast and furious.... who will be ready... and who will be living out of their car begging for their next meal. Do you have cash stored away for short term needs.... bartering skills & good's for the mid term, and PM's for long term security of your family?! Those are key to a financial survival in today's society.

Many observations of trends, related to the great depression, are current to our situation... and that bodes for bad times a coming. When does that happen... next month, a couple of years from now or within the next decade... that is to be debated... but most would not disagree that it is coming soon.

Now regarding cash stored. Some tinfoil wearers say they have a new dollar ready to be introduced- thus stashed greenbacks will be worthless. I guess in the short term cash would work but bartering items may have more value. Plus I often wonder how much cash, during hurricanes and other crisis one of the first stories out is price gouging.

I won't say that (new dollar) will happen but it wouldn't surprise me either. If this were the case, I don't see how they could do this without offering some sort of exchange period. Probably wouldn't be a one for one, but they would almost have to have some program in place. TPTB would want to avoid any more unrest than "necessary" if for no other reason than PR. This topic is the main reason for us to invest in tangibles as much as a person can. Cash is fine to a point and for now, but to me, the days of having my safe full of cash are coming to a close. We deal in cash as much as possible, but we are buying more and more "stuff" that will retain its value(or increase) PSHTF. This can be a bit of a gamble, and each person/family has to make that choice for themselves. The first step for any survivalist is to cover the basics as best they can. As all of us here know, that in and of itself will eat up quite a chunk. It also serves the barter angle. IMHO, pretty much anything you deem necessary to stock up for a SHTF has barter value, so buy all you think you'll need x 2. Gold/silver is good, and should be bought after the basics are covered IMO. I don't agree with the "junk silver only" line of thought. While it may be useful in day to day dealings PSHTF, there is nothing like dropping a gold coin on the counter to get a seller's attention-I know I've done it. That neighbor with the land right next to yours is talking about moving to his Kid's place. Dropping a few 1 oz gold coins into his hand might help him to make up his mind... All the preps in the world don't mean jack if you can't keep them. Firearms/ammo are a must. While a great investment, personally I'm not sold on the "firearms/ammo for barter" line of thought. Bartering firearms/ammo is WAY WAY down on my list-to easy to have them turned back on me. It would take a very severe need for me to barter a weapon or ammo. MAYBE .22lr. Parts or mags I would be more likely to barter IF I got a warm n fuzzy. I also feel that every survivalist should have the equipment and components to reload. If you are "not into it" a basic set up is fine, but again I feel it is as important as the weapons and store bought ammo. After all that most won't have to worry about having too much cash lying around:eek: JMT's

Yup read that many times before but no reason for them to waste the storage space or time needed to print Blue Backs.

Easier to adjust your account and then inflate the dollars on a daily basis.

After the "wipe out" there will be plenty of time to print whatever rainbow money to what ever physical size and denomination they want.

A bit of a story at my expense,

Back before we were married but were getting pretty serious, the wife and I were comparing BOB's. Being the male in full courtship mode I was showing off all my cool stuff to impress the female(think a male peacock displaying full colors:rolleyes:) My wife to be pulled out two small rolls of something neatly wrapped in duct tape. "Whats that?" I asked, figuring it was some piece of "girl gear". She unwrapped the two rolls to proudly display one roll of silver dimes and the other of silver quarters. "Oh, good idea" I said thinking "ah s#!t I never thought of that... Needless to say this peacock's feathers wilted when this hole in my preps was discovered by my wife to be..;) We've, rather SHE has had many a laugh over that memory. It shows that no matter how well we think we're prepped or how long we've been in the lifestyle, most everyone can always find a hole in their preps some where-even a strutting peacock...:D

I've heard the dropping price of oil is a concern that can help trigger a market crash. Me, I'm working on increasing the physical stockpiles of goods, but the mental ones as well(learning more skills).

This sounds simplistic but just be ready(as possible). If you cannot grow food, process game, fish/trap, do at least minor first aid, and defend yourself/yours then get ready. All things come in second to the "big 3"--food/water/shelter. If you cannot provide or have these then please get your behind into gear as quickly as possible.

Also- unsure if it was just the naysayers or what. The day after the State of the Union speech in which the President declared the good times are rolling and going to be getting better, I heard 3 different talk shows talking about the economy is going to collapse soon.

I have been trading stocks for over twenty years and thought I saw the writing on the wall last year and sold all my S&P index funds and put it into cash. I REGRET IT. I missed out on the move last year and into this year, cost me thousands. Never fight the fed.

*sigh* so many people erroneously believe all of this is real. It's a corporate pyramid scheme, little more. As for the "tinfoil nutters" who have been consistently proven right, the private banking collective only needs to slap a new label on their next currency and they are back in business. You see, the people (general populace) lose in a financial collapse. The banking cartels, however, keep on making money. That's the truth, plain and simple. I know, it hurts. Take it like a man.

FYI: Every bank in the history of the United States has been privately owned, managed and continues to be so -even the very first bank. In fact, the .GOV often places the collateral down and never gets paid back by the private bankers. Go figure. Only in America!

It's already started here, I got a letter from my Credit Union stating that starting next month there would be a $2.00 monthly charge unless I was actively using the account.

Well it gets closed tomorrow after 33 years, bye bye....
