We have the thread questioning what are our goals for the coming new year. We have had great responses. It is now 8 days into the New Year and are you still motivated? I read a blog written by one of our monkeys, he wrote:

New Year’s Resolutions: As Useful As Last Year’s Calendar. | Twenty First Summer

I will confess I have been lazy. I have been working and preparing for "just in case" for a few years now, yet why have I never taken the time to take the classes that I have wanted to? My goal is to not be lazy. I am motivated and put 100% into the rest of my life, so why not be as motivated with my learning skills I really need? I am putting off no more. If I can make time to be on this thread, then I can make time to take the classes I need and wish to take. No excuses anymore, if I truly wish to be a survival monkey then I don't need a new year to do what needs to be done.

New Years is traditionally a time of "taking stock"...when the accounting comes up somewhat different than we would wish, it is the natural time to set goals.

Nothing magic OR flaky about it that I see...

I've never made New Year's Resolutions. That being said, this year I think its more timing than anything else. I've basically semi-retired from what I've been doing for 30 some years and will be staying home/doing the local jobs I choose. That now leaves me free to get things done that I couldn't working 80-100 hr weeks 1,600+ miles away. We have shut the main businesses down/sold off unneeded assets and are turning those to more tangible assets/investment capital for a couple of new business ventures.

As MotoMom34 said, I too have been lazy in one area in particular over the years, and that is in getting my Ham license. Now I mean NO OFFENSE to the Hams out there, but I just haven't been able to get my head around and thus excited about it. I think its because it baffles the hell outta me. I've read articles, books, ect and I just get this glazed look and its, "$#@& this I've got other stuff to do" and off I go. The post the other day about the 5 yr old getting their ticket finally pushed me over. If a 5 yr old can do it indeed I gotta be able to make sense of all the watts/amps/propagation and general angles of dangles..

you are a mother .. full time job
you are a wife... full time job
you are getting your food stock together
Working on a 2nd heat source
a husband who is not 200 % on board
And god only know what else ..... i don't see much time left after the 1st 2

As for the moderators I don't see how yall have time to do anything ... THANKS

I never did the New Year's Resolution thing. I always thought it was funny, all those people who ran out to get gym memberships in January and went all month, then never darkened the doors again. Resolutions are those fickle motivation will power things that always burn out after the initial I'm Gonna Do It high wears off. At most I set monthly goals, and I tend to pull those off since they require a short attention span. January's goals mostly revolve around adding antibiotics, blankets, and another propane tank to the stash, and setting X amount of $ aside. I've already placed an order for the meds, scored some super cheap fleece blankets that were 75% off because they were Christmas themed, so I'm already halfway there.

We all know you're not lazy MM... it's just one of those things that's so easy to set aside because other obligations demand more immediate attention. :)

Not sure why I keep misreading this topic on the front page "Recent Topics" list as "Why New Year's goats?"...

If it wasn't for the lack of resolution specific greeting cards in the Hallmark section of Walgreens, I just might suspect the whole New Years Resolution thing was another holiday/event manufactured by the greeting card industry.... or maybe they just haven't resolved to figure out what in the world the messages on those cards would be.

Hope you...succeed at...whatever the hell it is you're thinking of trying to begin to start doing now...I guess.

May you not fail miserably this year like you have on so many previous attempts.

Here's to another set of resolutions...wait, aren't these the same ones you made last year?

@DarkLight LOL! funny. And @PaxMentis I actually looked to make sure I didn't write goat!

I think @ditch witch maybe right- maybe some of us need to set monthly/quarterly goals.

January- space booked and reserved for first aid classes.
February- CPR classes- paperwork sent, place reserved.
    Knitting- next three Saturdays.

Well Jan is nearly over and I still don't have the additional propane tank picked up nor money set aside. Not looking good for either to happen by Sunday either though fingers are crossed on the tank. Will be heading down to DFW and will check out the Free Stuff listings on Craigslist. Up where I am no one gives anything away... "Free Firewood" translates to "We have a big tree we hate and want you to cut it down for us, without dropping it on our neighbor's house". But down there? Hole E Crap! Free furniture, appliances, firewood that's actually cut, sheds, lawnmowers, hot tubs, you name it. Maybe I can score a tank or two. :)
