I was digging through some things the other day and pulled out my first knife that dad gave to me when I first started hunting with him when I was 10 years old or so. It is made by Soligen and has a number stamped in it that I am researching. I have reached out to Soligen to find out more on it's history, manufacturing detail. I am looking forward to hearing what comes back. Germany Solingen - Cutlery And Kitchenware Center | Knives - Outdoor Knives
Nice legacy Dad gave to you right there, YD!! Here's mine, from my Dad. No markings, looks like German steel....
Obviously not my first but a treasured blade given to me by my uncle, I miss him on a daily basis....
I wish I had my first knife still but I remember it. I saved a ton of bazooka joe gum wrappers to get it. It was junk but it was mine. Mom took it away( as she should it was too much knife for me at that age) found it years later and probably lost it in my last move.
Well, evidently Dad was a cheap@ss because my 1st knife was a 4 blade Camp King folder.. He got better though, by the time I was old enough to deer hunt I had a pretty nice Buck skinner. No pics as the middle daughter has the camp king and I broke the skinner as a dumb@ss teenybopper.
First knife was a Case Jack knife given to me by my Grand Dad. Still have it all these years later! My all time fave is my Boy Scouts knife back when you were able to get a good one! I carry that and use it daily! I also Took a kissing Crane Switch Blade from a schoolmate who had ill intent on his mind, a quick kick to the hand and that knife went in my pocket never to be returned!
Since i was 7-8 I've had a pocket knife. Grand father made knives as presents for friends and family, so it was tradition . However my first fixed blade was a cheap store bought one, simply because with me there was the distinct possibility of it being lost. And it was . Funny enough 40 years later I found one in the desert exactly like the one I had . Made a few and gave them away and have a few I bought as a kid . but my favorites are Gramp's which my son now has.
