I read this and it is insane. Another label, Free-range children, not chickens. Sorry folks kids cannot play, cannot be out of your site and NEVER let them walk alone. Ridiculous.

Motomom34 I agree but I also think parents should have the option in how they parent. The state should not tell them how to parent and raise their children whether we agree or not with this title.

The only issue I have with this is that they were warned. They already had a go round with officials. Yes these people have the right to raise their children but I just wouldn't dare to make a statement with my children. The first time brought attention to the issue but to risk having your children taken away- even for a few hours- I think the parents should have thought twice. This does make me wonder, what about school bus stops. The bus leaves kids off and the kids walk, sometimes splitting off but always one or two kids are left walking alone. Is that free- range children?

We often scoff and talk about this generation coming up being unable to do much and being worthless, well this is why.

I quit teaching elementary school because of bad parenting. Couldn't take it.
But what the powers that be were demanding I teach was another push.
    They have taken over.
God only knows where this trend is leading.

Home schooling within your community is likely the way we will all of like mind will have to go.

I read an article somewhere last year about kids who were taken away because the state did not approve of what they were being taught at home...

There's a heated discussion going on a rabbit breeder forum I follow right now. 7 year old was at school and made mention that her family raised rabbits and pigs and ate them. Landed her in the principal's office, and mom got called in for a conference. She was informed that their "lifestyle" was not approved of by the majority of the parents and from now on she was to instruct her child to not talk about such things. The majority of the discussion encourages her to tell her daughter to continue to talk about it, to "educate" the other children, which to me is just using your child as a pawn in your quest to be right. I pointed out that they're inviting some nanny state twit to call CPS or Animal Control on them. If she had been talking about Daddy's guns, I imagine they'd already have gotten the knock on the door.

Yeah, don't know about that. But it wouldn't surprise me.

The Dean at my last job teaching a 3rd grade came in during silent reading time, busted me for reading the Bible. Silently.
    They have an agenda...

What did you reading the Bible quietly have to do with your job? Just curious what was said

No religious material in school. The principal was a good friend. He took care of her attitude and the Bible stayed on my desk.

When my son was in grade school the school was a long block away on the same street and my wife for the first two years would walk him to and from school after that she was on the front step watching him in the morning and waiting for him in the afternoon.

That is as free range as we went.

NEA Thugs are known for pushing their Personal Agendas in the Classrooms and thru the Administration, in our Schools. I can tell you that had an Admin done to ME, what DW quoted from her other site, I would have Been vocal, in the Extreme, with my Childs Right of Free Speech, and a few Other choice Words.... that Admin and Teacher would have "Rued the Day" that they ever ran across ME and my Family, as well as having to Justify their Actions, to the School Board, where I would have gone with a Formal Complaint. I have, and would again, take these NEA Yahoos, to the MAT, for any such Business. My children Grew up, in a City, until they were in Jr High, during the School Year. They walked a MILE, to School, on their own Every day. They spent their Summers in the Alaskan Bush, where the only Rules were:
    1. Until they could jump in the Inlet and swim to shore, at High Tide, they Had to wear Life Jackets if they went fishing in the Inlet from the State Airplane Float.
    2. If a Bear entered the village, they were to go to the nearest Cabin, and lock the door from the Inside, and call the Office and Report the Bear. Then "Stay there", Until an Adult came, and escorted them to our Cabin.
    3. Once they were out of Grade School, they could Roam anywhere they choose, as long as they left a NOTE, where they intended to go, and with whom.
That is it.... Three simple Rules. Never had much of a problem once they learned to leave the NOTE. Not doing so. got them Grounded for the next five Days. To this day they still talk about the Memories of their childhood and growing up in Alaska.
We Moved to an unIncorporated County area (Rural) then, we Home Schooled them for a few years when we first moved up here, Permanently. We farmed the Middle child, out to Good Friends, who lived in town, for his last two years of High School, and then Momma moved into town, with the youngest one, as she finished High School. All my Children are, what is now considered "Free Range Children" and are raising their children, pretty much in the same vain....

In my personal opinion, we are going to have to take our country back and re-instill common sense. I pray that Texas votes to secede and become a republic again. Then we can go back to having it free for our kids to play knowing that, if they are approached by a predator, the predator will be caught and hung from a lamp pole, My guess is they will all move to the People's Republic of California.

Oh I'd be up in the Admin's grill too, no doubt. I just don't think encouraging my kid to continue swatting the hornet's nest is the best route to take.

Then again I don't have kids so what do I know.

Shitskis. We might have to move to Texas.

Can we keep our cabin in WNC?

Sure. I'm native Texan. I will vouch for most of the folks in the Monkeysphere. Y'all are keepers. But we'll have to clean Austin out. It's infested with the enlightened bunch and politicians

You know, swatting a hornets nest once is usually a life lesson not requiring repetition.

I was born up near Amarillo, not my favorite part of Texas. I kinda like the eastern part, Sulphur Springs, Livingston, Jasper areas. More trees, but more mosquitos the further south and east you go.

Wow.... None in school is a big step from... Don't teach religion in schools.... What happened to learning all religions so you at least had a grounding in how different they all are..... More edu-mastication I suppose...
