From the article: [Researchers] examined records from a large health insurer to search for such an association. They checked the status of children continuously enrolled in the health plan from birth to at least 5 years old during 2001 to 2012. The children also had an older brother or sister continuously enrolled for at least six months between 1997 and 2012. "Consistent with studies in other populations, we observed no association between MMR vaccination and increased ASD risk among privately insured children. We also found no evidence that receipt of either 1 or 2 doses of MMR vaccination was associated with an increased risk of ASD among children who had older siblings with ASD." ... [An accompanying editorial said,] "Taken together, some dozen studies have now shown that the age of onset of ASD does not differ between vaccinated and unvaccinated children, the severity or course of ASD does not differ between vaccinated and unvaccinated children, and now the risk of ASD recurrence in families does not differ between vaccinated and unvaccinated children."

MMR vaccine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Very effective.

    Effectiveness[edit]
Measles cases reported in theUnited States fell dramatically after introduction of the measles vaccine.
Before the widespread use of a vaccine against measles, its incidence was so high that infection with measles was felt to be "as inevitable as death and taxes."[7] Reported cases of measles in the United States fell from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands per year following introduction of the vaccine in 1963. Increasing uptake of the vaccine following outbreaks in 1971 and 1977 brought this down to thousands of cases per year in the 1980s. An outbreak of almost 30,000 cases in 1990 led to a renewed push for vaccination and the addition of a second vaccine to the recommended schedule. Fewer than 200 cases have been reported each year between 1997 and 2013, and the disease is no longer considered endemic.[8][9][10]

Epidemiology of autism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Canada[edit]
The rate of autism diagnoses in Canada was 1 in 450 in 2003. However, preliminary results of an epidemiological study conducted at Montreal Children’s Hospital in the 2003-2004 school year found a prevalence rate of 0.68% (or 1 per 147).[36]

A 2001 review of the medical research conducted by the Public Health Agency of Canada concluded that there was no link between MMR vaccine and either inflammatory bowel disease or autism.[37] The review noted, "An increase in cases of autism was noted by year of birth from 1979 to 1992; however, no incremental increase in cases was observed after the introduction of MMR vaccination." [37] After the introduction of MMR, "A time trend analysis found no correlation between prevalence of MMR vaccination and the incidence of autism in each birth cohort from 1988 to 1993."[37]

    United States[edit]
The most recent estimate states that up to 1 out of every 68 children, or 14.7 per 1,000, have some form of ASD.[38]The number of diagnosed cases of autism grew dramatically in the U.S. in the 1990s and early 2000s. For the 2006 surveillance year, identified ASD cases were an estimated 9.0 per 1000 children aged 8 years (95% confidence interval [CI] = 8.6–9.3).[20] These numbers measure what is sometimes called "administrative prevalence", that is, the number of known cases per unit of population, as opposed to the true number of cases.[28] This prevalence estimate rose 57% (95% CI 27%–95%) from 2002 to 2006.[20]

The number of new cases of austism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Caucasian boys is roughly 50% higher than found in Hispanic children, and approximately 30% more likely to occur than in Non-Hispanic white children in the United States.[2][39]

A further study in 2006 concluded that the apparent rise in administrative prevalence was the result of diagnostic substitution, mostly for findings of mental retardation and learning disabilities.[28] "Many of the children now being counted in the autism category would probably have been counted in the mental retardation or learning disabilities categories if they were being labelled 10 years ago instead of today," said researcher Paul Shattuck of the Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, in a statement.[40]

A population-based study of one Minnesota county found that the cumulative incidence of autism grew eightfold from the 1980–83 period to the 1995–97 period. The increase occurred after the introduction of broader, more-precise diagnostic criteria, increased service availability, and increased awareness of autism.[41] During the same period, the reported number of autism cases grew 22-fold in the same location, suggesting that counts reported by clinics or schools provide misleading estimates of the true incidence of autism.[42]

    Uh huh.

Duh..... But how many of the over-Educated Parents are still convinced that the DisCredited British Researcher who falsified his research, and Published his BS Scientific Data, that SHOWED a Positive Correlation, between MMR and Autism...... Just more Stupid People....... "If you read in on the Internet, It MUST be True......."

I shake my shaman's rattle, and the light go out. I shake it again and the light go on! Did my holy rattle force the power to obey?......or did someone install a "clapper" and it heard me?
One does not follow the other, and the numbers jump is likely to just be changes in diagnostic techniques. Reporting. And access to medical treatment.

The statistical probability of an 8 fold increase in such a short time being due only to reporting is highly unlikely.....

For that to be true, would REQUIRE 256:1 ratio in new cases to old. I believe the math is flawed. I believe the language is flawed. And if there IS a link, prove it. Don't guess, infer, suppose, or suggest. Prove it.because without PROOF it is just a theory, and nothing more.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Figures don't lie, but liars figure.

Anybody remember back when the tobacco industry paid to have several hundred research studies done that all proved conclusively that there was no causative relationship between smoking and lung cancer?

If I remember right there were exactly four official Marlboro Men--and every one of them died of lung cancer.

I've heard audio tapes smuggled out of secret meetings in my own county where the County Board and the local school administration were sitting around blatantly discussing how to prevent the public from finding out that vaccinations caused autism.

That vaccinations were the cause was flatly stated. And all they wanted to do was keep that hidden.

There is a good reason that the medical industry has already purchased a 100% legal exemption from ALL lawsuits arising from damages alleged to be related to vaccinations. That exemption runs from the vaccine manufacturers right down to the nurse that pushes the plunger. They've all been suit-proofed.

And here's a TEOTWAWKI scenario for you: What happens thirty years from now when 80% of the next generation is severely schizophrenic, and the remaining 20% is severely autistic? And we're all retired?

Ok mea culpa.. I did the math wrong..... But look at the numbers.

And regardless of your belief about the numbers.... Parents have the right to choose whether their kids get vaccinated...

It's funny how one hand we claim we are for freedom and on the other we want to limit it. (I'm guilty of this as well) that is why discussion is so important

Would you go to your local County Commissioner, to get Medical Advice? Any Politico would be the LAST Person, I would use as a source of Medical Information on ANY Malady. Those Yahoo's wouldn't know Virus, from a Toothache... If you want Information, Go to the Peer Reviewed, and Published Research Papers, and do your own Due Diligence. Yea, it does take some time to actually READ, and Understand, what the Named Researchers are trying to say, but you get the Unvarnished Data, that is supported by both their Peers, AND Detractors, who are the SmartGuys in that Field of Study. Not an "Opinion" by some Yahoo, with Letters after his Name, from a totally different Field of Study, who happens to like to Cry "BullS**t" on every Paper written on any subject. Read, and research the "Lead" and "Contributing " Authors, and check out their Credentials, as well as the Creds of any Detractors, before you eat what ANY of Them, are serving.... Go to the source, not some Article written by some Yahoo, who is only ParaPhrasing what he got from reading a Story, published on an Internet Blog, by some Group with an Agenda... Seriously.... if you get your Medical Information from YouTube, you are in Bad Company.....

I agree with the substance of what you are saying, kell,

However, a theory is quite a substantial claim in the field of science...I think that what you were intending to refer to is a hypothesis. Even a hypothesis in the field of science requires evidence to support it...otherwise the claim may be known by the non-technical expression - "wild arsed guess".

Nope. The hierarchy goes..a)wild arse guess, b) hypothesis, which is an educated guess. c)theory, which is an educated guess, backed up by the available data. And d) PROOF where theories are tested, data confirmed, and wild arse guesses shredded. (And in the best circumstances....new questions arise).

Some of the studies are as old as 1938

Respwcrfully before you go off on someone about reading studies would you please bring your studies and sources to the table be rather than ranting...

All I'm hearing is "do your own research as to the truth, and don't listen to those who just skim headlines."
A lot like doing archaeology by reading through all the reports from those who were really there, looking for the inconsistencies. (And calling THAT true research). He is saying "go to the source" not the rumor.

and I expect better behavior from mods .

I would put him on my iggy list but he's a mod so I can't

I don't know why you keep saying you expect better from a mod. Mods are people with their own personalities, quirks and foibles.

It's like me saying I expected more/better from someone new to the forum. What does that even mean? That I expect new members to tread lightly or to be seen and not heard or to mind their p's and q's? That's just silly.

You have your own personality and so dies BT. He feels strongly about a lot of things and so do you but frankly you come off like a baby when you spout the same gripe about expecting more from someone because of their "status" in the "community".

If @BTPost does something in his role as a mod, that's one thing but if he has an opinion as a "private citizen", leave the mod thing out of it.

*edit* - apparently with the upgrade you can't ignore staff anymore.

I respect BTPost and when someone is in a position of power like he is more should be expected.. It's called leadership

And as a 'citizens of this board I have the right to call his style into question. When you have power it is necessary to walk softly....

You can call me whiney and a babe all you want and I have a view point as well my style is softer. If the occurs as whiney... So be it

As a leader, yes. Making the leap that they can't be an individual or have any type of interaction outside of their leadership role is asinine.

If he tries to coerce you and lord his "modness" over you then okay, issue. But if he has a strongly held difference of opinion, restricting his ability to disagree with you, perhaps vehemently is unfair and unrealistic.

This isn't the Army and he didn't give up his right to express his opinion by becoming a mod and you can say you respect him all you want but all I've seen is at the very first sign of disagreement between the two of you you start poking the bear and trying to get a reaction so you can complain about how you expect more from a mod.

Anyway, I'm done. Not really my place and I'll quit trying to get you two to get along. At this point it's a fools errand.

I friggin hate my phone keyboard by the way.
