I'm in a jury pool being impaneled for a murder trial... one of the questions asked by the DA/defense attorney's was do you own any firearms and to list the type and caliber... I mentioned this to the bailiff and told him I wasn't comfortable answering some of the questions... he response is to leave it blank and let them ask the question and make a decision on how to respond... apparently they want to know if you owned a particular caliber of pistol and gauge of shotgun... II haven't ben called yet but the pool is getting smaller (shrunk by almost half so far...)

Just thought it was interesting.... and would share it in case any other monkey get in the same position...

You can do the generic.... I own rifles or guns. And the standard.... IM not comfortable answering that on public record but happy to disclose off the public record if your Honor deems it important to the out come. This way you look cooperative without saying anything.

They cannot require you answer specific details and since jury Q&A are public record I would not suggest giving details. My 2 cents.

Pm me if you have specific questions...

Interesting, I have recently filled out an info card for a federal trial in Gainesville. If I were asked the same question, they probably would not like my answer either. "I am a life member in the NRA, obviously I probably own firearms. The number of firearms if any, type, caliber, serial #, manufacturer, etc, I consider no ones business but my own. If you wish to ask 3 specific yes or no questions about a particular single firearm I may answer your question or not."

A former coworker answered yes to the NRA question and when asked what, how many and caliber he responded, "In the interest of saving the court's time, let's just say the list is long and distinguished." He was released at that point.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

They want clueless people on that jury, not anyone who knows how a firearm works.

But I find that many that do not own firearms is because they hate them. Therefore it is tainted.

That is jury selection for you. Supposed to be a jury of your peers! Questioning jurors in this manner is ridiculous. I sat on a murder case where a knife was used. They didn't ask me if I owned knives, what type and how big!

Yeah, got similar questions while being chosen or dismissed on trial duty. Do I know what the difference is between a semi auto and an auto. A revolver vs a semi. I was excused pretty quick.

    "Thank you, you are dismissed."

I think you would have to answer truthfully because it could affect the trial.

I would never suggest answering untruthfully. Seriously. And if I was the one on trial, I would expect the same from potential jurors. The answer my friend gave and the one above are completely true and or factual. The point of that question is to determine your...position towards and on firearms and your familiarity with same. Those answwrs are designed to cut through the crap and get to the point. Thats all.

The correct answer was probably..."dunno, my muzzle loader only takes one slug down the barrel at a time, now if you would ask me the difference between a matchlock and a flintlock...I could answer you"

"If you could please explain why answering such a personal question may be pertinent at all, I will be willing to extrapolate. However, for clarification, I feel compelled to add that I am a practicing gunsmith, reloader, former armorer for the United States Army and Master Gunner. I have experience with every modern tank and their weaponry, as well as all infantry military weapons. I have also completed basic and advanced tactical training courses for rifles and handguns, and served as a self defense trainer in hand to hand combat and knife training tactics. Among my numerous accolades, my most adventurous has been SCA armored combat with swords. I do feel this answer will provide far better clarity than simply stating which firearms I may own, and the caliber types."

I got selected once and I answered their question on the death penalty with "Yes, and I think it is not used often enough nor public enough to cut down on idiots who will commit a crime". I was excused.

Perhaps a reasonable reply to that question would be, "Yes Sir I do. As the two lead attorneys on a case where a firearm was allegedly involved, Do YOU?"
