OK...I have had the book for a little over a week now and have made an initial light read. My opinion is that it is a worthwhile book for everyone except, as the authors themselves say, those who insist on assuming the best about others at all times, feel that all problems can be solved by patience and compromise and cannot fathom killing another human being. There are those who would rather be dead than kill another and those people should not bother to buy this book.

Otherwise, if you do not have military training or combat experience you should read this book at least twice...and keep it on the shelf for reference. The first read should be fast, basically looking over the the different subjects and getting an idea of small unit tactics is a much more readable and understandable (for those who do not think in military) presentation than in military manuals. The second read should be a slow, thoughtful read concentrating on WHY the techniques used are effective so that you can begin to think defensively.

If you do have the experience of combat the small unit tactical lessons and defensive issues (channeling of attackers, fields of fire, booby traps, etc) will be more of a refresher and adaptation to a new kind of battlefield. For many of us it has been many years since we dealt with defensive perimeters, ambushes and patrolling and many of us have never adapted those concepts to an urban environment. The authors are experienced infantrymen and special ops troops besides having street law enforcement experience and a background teaching these things to others.

One thing that may be initially off-putting to some is their insistence on remaining in an urban area and concentration on defensive methodology for residential neighborhoods, high and low rise apartment buildings and even commercial buildings...but the philosophies they espouse are universal and only the objects change. They also make one of the better arguments I have run across for remaining in an urban area...I still disagree with them for me and mine, but see their point for the majority of folks...especially those with no "home turf" outside the city.

Overall I don't think there is anyone other than a currently active special operator or a very experienced and good field grade infantry officer who would not get value from this book...and those people could probably also benefit at least from the techniques the authors use to present the subjects to others.

    As always...JMO/YMMV

Seems to be no longer available.
From some of the reviews I read elsewhere, I wonder why Bracken so so hot about it?

And that is another "been there, done that". I hate when the spam filter eats the renewal notice and I don't have auto-renew turned on. :D

I received my copy last week and have taken the time time to read the first two chapters. So far, all I will say is that for anyone with absolutely no military background let alone combat experience needs to purchase this A.S.A.P. The ultimate Survival Book for Neighborhood Protection during disaster or civil unrest

If you have to sacrifice every non needed expenditure for a couple of weeks to be able to purchase this book, I implore you to do so. This book is nothing but the real world gone to hell in a hand basket with tactics, techniques, & procedures(TTP's) that can very well tip the scales in your favor.

Slowly reading, three to four times a chapter, not a people person. The neighborhood group thing is a rough to the sand box tools, this I do grasp. Do I wish to have everyone to have access? Not!! OPEC. To not trusting? Great book!! Buy more for family, open doors to past.

Does anyone here have an e-book version of this? I want to send the story and conclusion on pages 27 to 32 out to all my email contacts. The story should wake up a few of them, maybe!

There is no e-book version and the format is such that scanning/converting would be very difficult.

Guess you'll just have to type the story and conclusions ...

Found a link that is not exactly the same as the book, but written by the same guy and tells the story that I wanted for my email.

What? The gov't stealing all registered guns? How can this be? Our gov't loves us! The communist moslem in the WH loves us! Our masters and our slave owners love us! They would never ban ammo sales (LA, Baltimore) or steal guns from law abiding citizens while ignoring known criminals running around carrying guns openly (New Orleans), or ,,,,

If you believe nothing else, believe this: "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Ayn Rand. THAT they do every day. YOUR turn is coming.
