Took my 3-1/2 year old to Kansas City Children immune clinic, got back next day only to find two notes from mother in law dryer doesn't work right and frig needs new door gasket, I fixed dryer with new belt and re-leveled frig, only gone one day, glad I wasn't gone a week, mother in law, stepdaughter, and grandaughter left my home today, just my wife, me and our 3-1/2 year old daughter now. [emoji27]
Iam NEVER gone for a week... but AlaskaChick is gone for 6-8 weeks at a time, two or three times a year...does that count?
Perhaps not, but you did get injured, and the lady of the house had a generator problem. Does that count? And have you devised a method for her to rig a generator swap, if it were to happen again?
Well. As you know... I ascribe to the Seals Motto... "Three is Two, and Two is One, and One is Oh Crap"..... so we have at least TWO of Everything.... Two 4X4 Vehicles, Three ATVs, Two Snowmobiles, Multiple Radios for ALL Bands, DC to Light, Two Internet SAT Feeds, Three CellPhones, Multiple FireArms (Pistols, Revolvers, Rifles, AND ShotGuns, with plenty of Ammunition for each) AND Twin 20Kw Northern Lights Diesel GenSets, and Two Backup Diesel Gensets, down in the Warehouse. Plus a variety of other Gensets, that can be put into Operation, in a day, with ease. Oh Yea, and enough Grub to last 18 months, Minimum, without going into the LongTerm Storage. I think we are covered...
Yes, I remember the conversation, while you were down. She was in no danger, but was down to one active generator, and oil all over the place. She was worried about you, had an unknown problem, and did not know how to swap out a generator from storage, if the main generator could not be quickly fixed. (So that she would continue to have a backup). She needs the knowledge, tools, and practice to do a swap, in case YOU CAN NOT. We discussed color marking connections, clear diagrams, jumper cables, and how to get the generator to where it needed to be for the swap. Can she now do that, solo, if you are not able to help? Your strength, you knowledge, were not available to her. All the backups in the world are useless, if you can't put them in service.
You may not be aware, that one of our local Neighbors, came down and spent a couple of hours helping her clean up the Oil, and refill the LubeOil Reservoir. They ran the Genset for 4 hours, with no hint of any further issue, all while the other Identical Genset was Online.... She also called the Cannery Forman, who is responsible for the Maintenance of those Gensets, and got advice from him as well. I was always "in the Loop" during the three Days I was in the Hospital. Since that Incident, we have put 600 Hours on that Genset, with no hint of any recurring Issue. The Backup GenSets, down in the Warehouse, have Power Cables attached to a PlugIn, that goes to a Power Jack, that has been wired into the Winter PowerHouse for DECADES. Just bring one of them down, Plug it in, Start it up, and throw a Transfer Switch, and it is Online. This isn't Rocket Science, this incident never got even close, to dealing with any of those options... It was resolved the same Day, by 3Pm.... Just not that big of a deal, for her, or Me....
Good. That was not my impression at the time, nor was I aware she had help on hand. I knew about the cannery advice, but thought she was solo on site.
