Two five rounds groups top left and right. Ten round group in the center with a final scope zero correction before shooting the eleventh round. (100 yards) Rifle is a Savage 308 shooting my hand loads. 155 AMAX bullets, Varget powder, CCI BR2 primers and Lapua brass right under 3000 fps. And now I'm out of Varget powder with none to be found... I do have some RL15 though.
Unfortunately the next two rifles I have to setup are a 8# 350 Rem Mag and a 12# 338 Lapua. I swear those two rifles think I owe them money. Black and blue shoulder here I come...
The Lapua has a nice one, the 350 RM Ruger not so much. And to top it off I am awaiting the delivery of a Pedersoli Hawken .54 flintlock with a metal pad.
Black Powder will not Kick you body, any where near what Smokeless Powder will..... Much slower Burn Rate, makes for a Longer Slower Push on your shoulder, even with the much larger projectile Mass.
That's good to hear. It will be my first BP. Just got my .530 RB mold and a Lee 380gr REAL mold. Will start casting once I get some other things done around here.
I have been shooting BP for 40+ Years, and have a lot f experience with that type of firearm.... They are my SHTF Backup Weapons.... I can Make ALL the things that are needed to keep those Weapons going, right here at the place.... I have Lead, I can formulate BP, I can formulate Cap Powder and make Caps... All right here at the place.... and 209 ShotGun Primers can be converted into Caps, as well..... If at all possible, score REAL GOEX Black Powder, rather than that Potassium Chlorate Crap, they sell as BP Substitute in the Big Box Stores..... Your Weapon will thank you for it.... and you will have some nice Legal Class A Explosives that can be used for other things..... if required....

I have a 338 WIN MAG and that thing Kicks like a horse, however if you even nick something with it "GAME OVER"'. I took it to the range and it penetrated 3/4" ply and a 2x4 and just kept on trucking! You should have seen the back of that 2x4.
Savage has been coming out with some pretty respectable stuff in the last ten, fifteen years or so. When I was a kid the brand was almost synonymous with bottom-of-the-line. Add decent loads and trigger control from the operator, groups like that show up. I'm lucky to get 1" groups with any rifle. Just can't get out enough to practice. Good looking firearm.
