Would you ever consider eating road kill?

Consider it, yes. The state of said road kill and my hunger would determine how much consideration it would take.

Yes, and have. Many hunters are on roadkill lists. A freshly hit deer may only lose 10-30% of the meat due to damage from impact.
What is the difference to you if it was a bullet or a Buick that killed it? None.
Also, it does not count against you as to the number of deer you can kill each year, that means more meat in the freezer, for free. No.permits needed, (officer writes out a form allowing you to claim it, and helps you load it, often).
We are not talking about something that has been sitting a week. More like an hour or two.
I know at least one other member here, on a roadkill list.

A: Two, one to eat it, one to watch for cars.

Q: What do Texans do with armadillos that get hit?

Where I live we hunt pig a lot. After gutting them we freeze for atleast a week before I through it on the smoker. Before moving to my off grid place I lived on a country highway. One night I heard a large bang outside and went to investigate. I found a 150 lb sow dead on the side of the road and a nissan with a large dent in the front bumper. The driver was fine and went on his way after I talked to him a bit. I first thought of just chucking the pig away, but after thinking this might be a learning experience, I gutted it up and was able to save the front half. We ate it a few weeks later, some in the crock pot and some on the smoker, tasted great.

On my way fishing early one morning, I had a deer running along side of my truck. I was thinking "No way it"ll jump in front of me!", but slowed down to 40. Sure enough it did!
I didn't hit it very hard but, The truck broke it's back at the hip. I stopped and the thing was screaming in the road, so I picked up a softball sized rock and hit it between the eyes. I drug it to the side of the road and Bled it out, then stashed it in the bushes.
On the way back from my fishing trip I picked it up and took it home. 70 lbs of free meet and only paid a slightly dented bumper.
Deer kill more people in America every year than all other animals combined, Payback!

After a little thought on this subject, If one was to patrol any 10 mile stretch of country road every morning, it would stand to reason that one could feed themselves exclusively on fresh kill from the night before. As long as it was done every day the chances are good that you could probably get several hundred pounds of a variety of animals a month. Obviously you wouldn't want to take the ones that need a shovel to collect, but out here where I live at least one deer a night gets killed somewhere close to where I live.

I would if I was the one who hit it. With our heat out here, by the time I stumble upon roadkill it's already host to 100,000 squirming diners.

@DKR. Do you have a good way to cook moose? I could never figure out how to make the gainers less. With deer you can always soak the meat in milk for a couple of hours but moose... just didn't seem to work for me.

Wishlist.... a good game cooking thread

Get off the possum kick, I know of no-one that eats an animal that eats the a**-hole out first to get to the guts.
Hope you get a mental picture of that fact of nature...Now...
Deer, Soak it in Pepsi over night, Beats milk any day of the week.
Moose, Caribou, Bison, I've found to be mild in taste ...and rather Good!
