Civics Gay Marriage ruling

So I read the Supreme Court ruling.

If I read it right. The basis of the ruling was the 14th amendment of the constitution.

Four principles were asserted in the text of the 14th amendment.

1. State and federal citizenship for all persons regardless of race both born or naturalized in the United States was reaffirmed.
2. No state would be allowed to abridge the "privileges and immunities" of citizens.
3. No person was allowed to be deprived of life, liberty,or property without "due process of law."
4. No person could be denied "equal protection of the laws".

I think this sets a precident for abolishing state gun control laws as they are now established. I'm referring to 2 & 3

I have to think about this some more but I'm thinking SCOTUS just set a precident for equal protection under the law following federal laws and not state law where gun control is concerned.

Anyone else see this? I'm not explaining it very well atm. Still thinking outloud

 

BTPost it may have been political and Irregardless of all the rhetoric about it, the why, etc. When you read the ruling there were lots of precedents for marriage that the Supreme Court has ruled on in the past.

In this particular instance they chose a path that made a law that I am thinking will hoist them on their own petard where gun control is concerned.

 

I concur with BT that there is no precedence (though there should be) established that would be favorable to any gun law related constitutional challenge. The SCOTUS has abandoned the rule of law and adherence to the US Constitution and will create and invent any kind of twisted logic necessary to justify what ever ruling they want, the Constitution be damned. Until the justices are held accountable for their rulings, including impeachment when they clearly violate the Constitution, this lawlessness will continue and expand.

True DuneRunner. Such a ruling could be used to further centralize power at the federal level and may be used as a precedent to continue the erosion of states' rights.
Any time gun control laws are nullified, it's a good thing. But at what cost to other freedoms (what few are left)?

If the states cannot limit what marriage is, then polygamy is now legal. If polygamy is now legal and homosexual marriage is now legal then there is not any limits on age or sex to be married. If states rules do not count then all bets are off.

Like I said, Utopia is just around the corner, well that and another magic pill. But wait Colorado has already addressed that.

 

The precedent that the Supreme Court has set this week is that they can decide anything they want regardless of whether it's in the Constitution, the Amendments, or even written in the law they rule on. That they have become so brazen shows that the Republic has nearly been lost. There will only be bitter fruit ahead for the tree of Liberty.

 

I think it all went downhill when the State refused to burn blasphemers, witches and heretics at the stake, or hang them according to the place and era of execution. Hate the sin, but love the sinner to death.

Is polygamy now legal?...what is your citation for that claim? I dare say someone will probably try that one on...after all...there are Biblical and Qur'anic precedents for it.

Bristol Palin had better not get married....I doubt that her Dad and Mom are able to bring tokens of her (Bristol's) virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate. . .If Biblical morality is the gold standard for marriage....then stoning is an entirely reasonable sanction for those who are harlots in their father's house. Love the sinner, hate the sin with stones.

It seems we Texans were very lucky in the election of Greg Abbott to Governor. Also the election of Ken Paxton to AG is helping.They both are giving us hope for the first time in many years.

 

Hopefully every state reaffirms the right of churches and pastors to refuse marrying same sex couples. I personally don't have a problem with same sex couples having a civil union performed by the state. Texas has started the ball rolling in protecting freedom of religion against this half baked ruling.

 

Tramping on another's rights because of your desires is always a no win deal.

 

Oh HK....I hadn't realised that you were so empathetic to the marriage equality cause. Some (many) theists have tramped upon other people's rights, merely by a desire to interpret sacred texts in such a way as to limit other citizens' liberty.

What civil rights are you denied now that there is no legal impediment for same sex couples to be married?

 

Well, The the state of Texas is setting the stage for the next round. They have my attention.
