I'm betting the big brand t-giving turkeys will be higher priced simply because everyone expects that now, after the avian flu putdowns in the midwest. I noticed eggs were up at the store... I sell mine for $3 a dozen and sometimes someone will whine that I'm too expensive. Eh not now! Even the battery farm eggs are going for that much.

I haven't bought any processed chicken products in I don't know how long so not too worried about filthy Barber.

All food items have gone up quite a bit in my area in the last few months. Some things, like butter, have more than doubled in price. My grocery bills have easily increased by half. Good thing food prices aren't used to calculate the inflation rate, or our economy would be really screwed...

Socialists have proven over and over again their level of economic competence... almost as competent as that nifty treaty with Iran. Visit Israel now while there are still holy sites to see.

That is it? Farm fresh eggs are $6 a dozen at the farmers market and zucchini are $1 a piece. I am amazed at the price different from state to state.

Oh I know. The "cage free" organics are $6 a dozen at the store and closer to 8 in more affluent areas (which are nowhere near me). People who try to argue are just cheap. It's funny how people don't hesitate to pay huge corporations whatever they ask, but will try to talk down a regular person just trying to make a living. Not that I'm trying to make a living on eggs but at least enough to cover their feed and the cost of replacing cartons no one ever brings back.

We have 24 eggs in two incubators right now. All just candled and now in lock down getting ready to hatch. Wheaten and Blue Wheaten . My best egg layers however are 4 Copper Morans who are just awesome egg producers. We hatched 3 of their chicks bred to our Blue Wheaten Roo. They look like hens so far.

I've been trying to get Black Copper Marins for a while now but the hatchery is always sold out. Tried to get hatching eggs but the guy stood me up. Meyers had some last I checked so hoping to put in a fall order of some. From the looks of the chicks coming up now we've got 60/40 roos to hens, mostly Barred Rocks and Easter Egger mutts. Trying to convince the Mr. to build me one of those Whizbang Chicken Pluckers. Otherwise I'm just going to skin the roos.

@ Ditch Witch, I have two Wheaten Cockerels in with our Black Copper Maran mutts. They look like black Marans but we got them at Family farm and home so who knows. Once they become roosters get they will breeding these and we will have fertile eggs. If you would like I can send you pictures of our birds and also send you hatching eggs in the future. We are just now ramping things up here. We are breeding pure bred Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and also some easter eggers for egg production. We have several frizzle cross eggs as well. I think we will have a lot of various eggs come next spring. @ Ganado, We are also wondering how this cross is going to produce. My wife had the Blue Wheaten Roo and Hen in with the Marans for a couple weeks and roo preferred the one big Maran hen for breeding. We had to separate him and our lone Blue hen from the mix so they would breed uninterrupted. W e hatched the Maran's brown eggs just to see what would happen. Here are the little ones P1010059.JPG

That is his hen Buttercup behind him. She is an unrelated Blue Wheaten Hen. Both are pure Ameraucana Blue Wheatens from Paul Smith lines. We are hatching eggs from Wayne Meredith to cross with them. Pretty cool stuff.

I believe yes. I'm not sure where he was from. That is my wife's expertise.Smith was a foundation breeder of Wheatens. His lines are coveted in the Ameraucana breeders. We got a breeding pair from guy in Georgia just before the ban on shipping live birds.
