this was the crown jewel tool of a carpenter. If he had one, he was clearly a pro. A) what is it? B) what is it used for? I have one. (Some of these were even set with semi previous gems.) C) extra credit. What tools are it's modern replacement?
A) I forget. B) Cutting grooves, say for panels in drawers. C) Dado saw blades, routers, or mills can do the same job.
Two out of three. This tool is a "plow block plane" commonly used by cabinet makers. It is used to put the groove in for the drawer bottom. Routers, or more commonly dido blades are now used.
