"Taking a personal example from Oskar Schindler, who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust, Maman told the Catholic publication The Tablet that he has overseen the rescue of more than 120 Christian and Yazidi girls kidnapped by ISIS in northern Iraq"

That was the first thought that entered my mind when I read the header:)
    God bless them!

Religion was not an issue for him. He's Jewish and he is rescuing Christians. If you watched the video one of the women had been raped 30 times in one morning and she begged for the Iraq soldiers to bomb them, even if she died. That is desperation.

madmax Far right. Bipolar. Veteran. Don't push me.

I have the pleasure of knowing some very good people who work mostly in small ways that make a difference in peoples lives. There is no greater calling. And they are the last to call attention to themselves.

In the book, The Auschwitz Escape the Jewish resistance had decided on a similar plan. The escapees were to ask the allies to bomb Auschwitz out of existence if they could not mount a rescue. Their thinking was that better that they all die and put the camp out of action than to die and let it remain in operation. Of course the Allies did neither..

I highly recommend this book. It's about the life of Jacob Weisz. A lot can be learned about people and survival.

@madmax. Those are the unsung heroes of the world. Courage honor and doing the right thing in difficult circumstances with no need for acknowledgement

If you're ordering add "Night" by Elie Wiesel. Recounts his life and how he survived both Auschwitz AND Buchenwald.
The courage, and in many cases luck(although I believe it was divine intervention) is something that is almost beyond understanding to those of us that never experienced the holocaust.

@Ganado, I have always been struck by the combination of modesty, humility, and courage in some people and have been uplifted by knowing them or of them......
