Hello from TX, MO, and NC

So I've been on Survival Monkey, read a lot of great things for the last month or 2, posted some -- and now figured I should introduce myself. OK, so I'm a bit late on the introduction -- but I just got into SM so quickly -- it was great and I didn't both the introduce myself.

So: I was born and grew up in Texas, moved to Missouri 12 years ago, then moved again to North Carolina about 5 years ago. [I joke with people that I'm running from the law -- they haven't caught up yet!! ]

I think I've had the prepper attitude for a long time -- but hadn't acted on it until we got to Missouri. At the time, it was "let's see how much food we can store". We had a family who were LDS church members as neighbors literally next door to us. The joke there was that their 6-month-storage was in our basement, since they were always running out of things. Good times.

Since moving to North Carolina, we've prepped more than just food-wise. If you read my post on Emergency power - for the beginner | Survival Forums you will see that I've thought a lot about power -- but, I feel I still have a long way to go in terms of really putting together a solar solution for long-term outages.

More on prepping later. I've been learning a lot on Survival Monkey. Would be interested in hearing from others in other states close to NC.

Thanks for the concern BT. We are more than 200 mi from the coast, so I'm not too worried, but will keep an eye on things this weeken. Saw Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 tropical storm allison 2001 - Google Search and was worried then, but we got through it.
Really, even though it was just a Tropical Storm -- weather is really odd. I have a bad suspicion that when the SHTF for everyone it will be all those weather events coming together.

Yes, his name is Darryl Nicholson...don't worry though, it took some doing but we finally got him to go to AA.

 

Just don't let him drive home, he'll want to hit every fire hydrant along the way.

Hey Ditch Witch, thanks! Whenever I say I grew up in Texas I crazy comments like "Why don't you speak like George Bush" (his accent). I just laugh and tell them Texas Pete wasn't from Texas (as you know that's a NC thing).

Welcome from another NC'er (southern piedmont). Hoping, like you are, that we don't get much in the way of weather from Erika.

 

You know I was at a writer's retreat a few weeks ago and one of the other authors was from NC. As far as any of them knew I was native Texas (we left NC for TX before I turned 6) but she heard me talking and immediately asked me if I was originally from NC. Apparently the accent is still there under the twang, lol!
