    Note from @melbo
We often talk about OPSEC at SM and this is a good example as to why. This member gave out too much identifiable information on an open forum and Google filled in the blanks, providing the dox. SM Staff would never release any personal information about it's members (All we actually have is an email address and an IP address). The below allegation is untrue

    OPSEC:
OPerations SECurity is a process that identifies critical information to determine if friendly actions can be observed by adversary intelligence systems, determines if information obtained by adversaries could be interpreted to be useful to them, and then executes selected measures that eliminate or reduce adversary exploitation of friendly critical information. OPSEC is the process of protecting little pieces of data that could be grouped together to give the bigger picture. OPSEC is the protecting of critical information deemed mission essential from military commanders. Protecting this critical information is through the use of email encryption software, careful of who may be listening to you (like in a hotel bar), paying close attention to a picture you have taken (back ground) or not talking openly on social media sites about information on the unit's critical information list (military deployments, shortages of equipment or movement of VIPs).

Not staying with this forum because my privacy was violated. My last name was given to members so they could do a search and I was told by a drunk moderator that he found my facebook page and that he gave it to others to relax them. Well guess what? It doesn\t relax me. I don\t appreciate Survival Monkey's violation of my privacy and I did not agree that my last name which was supposed to be private be given out to members on a voice chat.

I feel VERY UNSAFE in this forum. Ironic huh as you are all saying how important anonymity is and you just throw a woman out there. I think you moderators must be misogynist gays.

There are a lot of women that have become welcomed members here. I personally have never witnessed any sort of violation of personal security here. With ANY member!

    • Who in their right mind gives out their real name when subscribing as member to a social media site?
    • Who in their right mind entrusts social media sites to maintain the security of essential OPSEC information?
    • Who, in their right mind would make a blanket assertion that the "moderators must be misogynistic gays", based on the alleged misconduct of one moderator member?
    • Who in their right mind would make a connection between misogyny and gays, when misogyny is, if anything, more prevalent among heterosexual patriarchal males.
    • There are a few women moderators at this site, and my experience with them is that they are the antithesis of misogyny / sexism.
    • There is a complaints / appeals process outlined in the Site's CoC, concerning the conduct/decisions of the moderators. Have you taken your concerns to the Site owner @melbo before blurting your complaint out to the membership at large? You have read the Site's CoC?
Oh, and for the information of the moderators and members of SM, my last name is Duck! No, not Phil........Daffy!

Edit: And who in their right mind publicly confirms that their last name has been allegedly compromised, when they have the option of applying plausible deniability as a damage control strategy. Your public dummy spit has merely brought unnecessary attention/curiosity upon yourself. Something of a security own goal that has nothing to do with the moderators.

Edit: There is a difference between moderator and forum editor, who have quite different site privileges. If a person uses their actual name on some social media sites, and only thinly veils their alias such that tracing their instagram / facebook/twitter/blog membership is not particularly difficult...I would have to say, I'm not seeing much potential as a prospective off grid partnership. My bunyip friend has more going for her as an off-grid partner. She does not have any digital presence, eschews computer technology, and is very discrete. She is also very elusive...which suits us both fine.

I've seen a lot of posts indicating moderators have REMOVED personal information (Names, phone numbers and /or e-mails) from posts and profiles here.

Rule No.1 on teh interwebz is NEVER use real names !

No @tatiana the admins did not give out your last name. The admins and mods go above and beyond to protect you. Please note: your first day, your first post- the e-mail you threw out for the public was deleted for your safety & your privacy. You left clues therefore you were found. This is a scary lesson for you on safety.

Lesson to everyone- never use names. Always think, am I being safe and have I given out too much information.

Some people simply refuse to be reasonable. When people try harder to convince them, they bask in the attention, but will still not listen to any kind of reason.

You have some serious issues, missy. I don't see how you are going to get people to follow you to Panama unless they are drinking the same Kool-Aid you are. Good luck in life, you are going to need it.

Too bad. Almost feel sorry for her. Maybe some day when she matures she'll figure it out.

NB: As policy, SM does NOT delete memberships except in very rare circumstances. If you don't want to come back and participate, that's your choice, and we wish you well.
SM did not violate your personal OPSEC, that would be someone else, unrelated to this site. Note that even I, a complete luddite could track you down using clues you used. There are some sophisticated computer users on SM that could, and evidently did, find you. That is your problem, revealing too much, and doing so provocatively (which attracted attention you say you don't want.)

Hurling general insults is sufficient cause for a ban, to be regarded as a violation of the CoC item #1 Accordingly, you are under a temporary ban to allow some cooling off.

We have deduced that you are shilling for some outfit selling land in Panama. If true, you joined the site under false pretenses, a version of trolling which is also a bannable offense. We choose to ignore that for now in the hopes that you will disclose your connections if/when you return after the ban.

The rest of this thread beyond those quotes above are simply rebuttal to your other posts and threads. Accordingly, this thread serves no further purpose and is locked.

I can assure you that we didn't share personal information with anyone (we don't have your last name to share even if we wanted to). As stated above, you gave out a lot of identifiable information that savvy Googlers can use to find you and apparently that's exactly what happened. We take member privacy extremely seriously here and take great offense to the accusation. It's simply not true.
