    Aloha Monkeys,

Thought this deserved it's own thread... sorry if it's already been posted... (my search skills suck)

Anyway... along with my Sour Dough Bread Journey thread... I was searching for a great cornbread recipe... (you know... easy enough that even a bear can remember it and make it) and I found this !

Wonderful videos with great historic background, very well done and easy to follow.

Recipes along with a bunch of other videos are a wealth of knowledge...

Bushcraft... you bet it is... in my not so humble opinion today.... watch a few and you find interesting references to way back to the Native American Indians as well as Russian and Civil War Troops on the battle field....

Not just cooking... lots of historic information from way back and tools from fires to knives etc....

I knew they had a re enactment catalog but didn't know they had this... really enjoying the videos... Hope you do to... (that is... as long as this hasn't already been posted and this "silly ole bear" just completely missed it... pooh! ) LOL....

    Good stuff... I promise...

Here's a few I watched and like... gonna give these a try ;)

I'll be logging my own 18th Century Cooking here... as I try these out ....
(um watch out... bears are a disaster in the kitchen... just check out my Sour Dough journey thread if you don't believe me )

Maybe some of you will as well... will be great fun and educational... for us Old Farts and you Young Monkeys and maybe your Critters ;)

Have a great Friday and Weekend!

    Take Care and God Bless,

    Bear

I will worn you, JAS Townsend are largely full of sh@#...that may be a bit harsh, but there stuff is never what they say it is.

I'll be watching this, and commenting when I cn get something useful to add, and I sincerely hope these turn out better for you than they did for us.

Also, historically, their Scots Eggs recipes is what comes out the south end of a north bound cow.

Furthermore, no offense Bear. Just have a very serious dislike for these guys. A lot of bad advice and some not properly made/sold attire from them was one of the things that lead us to starting our business earlier this year. I did not mean to take a severe tone at you if it comes off that way. Best wishes.

Thanks for the comment @AxesAreBetter .

Wow... that's a pretty broad comment... I have had no previous experience purchasing anything from them, just saw their advertisements in a couple mags I subscribe to, and have no affiliation with the company or anyone associated with the company.

Your comment was helpful as it prompted me to do a little research.... from what I found and that could be dated....

They are a small family run company that's been around for 35 years...
They supply or have supplied several parks and centers around the country... etc....
Story of JAS TOWNSEND & SON, INC.

They have a catalog that is at least 50 pages long and provide online services with free shipping and a satisfaction and return policy...
    Jas. Townsend and Son, Inc.

They offer several resources and blogs with historical references
Sifting The Past | Studying One Thing at a Time
Savoring the Past | Savoring history's repast. Discovering flavors not lost but forgotten

Their youtube channel has 39,337 subscribers and they have uploaded 309 videos. Comments good and less than that.

Their Facebook page is current and also has historical references and pictures. Comments good and less than that.

Their Twitter page is current and also has historical references and pictures.

Hope that helps folks here and saves them some time with their own conclusions and decisions...

Again... I have no previous affiliation or contacts with this company or any of its people... just looking for an easy cornbread recipe and liked what I saw and heard....

Thanks again for the comment @AxesAreBetter ... really helpful.... ;)
Good luck with your New Business!

    Have a great Saturday!

    Take Care and God Bless,

    Bear

Jas. Townsend and his family are heavily into re-enacting and exploring history; they are sometimes mistaken when representing historical fact. The great thing about James and the rest, is they will admit when they are wrong and only try to use available data which is well supported. The internet today is like a two-edged sword, it can get your information out there, but most people have become armchair experts at everything and often "Goggle-Fu" a response in an attempt to curtail the success of others. On the other hand, there really are truly experienced folks out there who can offer sound advice from experience and wisdom, only adding to the depth of the subject matter.

I can appreciate where Jas. Townsend and others like him are coming from --it's fun to explore the past.
