Funny... I just took a break from packing as well.

Don't know about the herbal way, but when I have trouble sleeping, 5 benadryl and I'm unconcious in about an hour or so.

A long, hot bath with lavendar - they say if you put some in your pillowcase, it promotes relaxation/deeper sleep.

Chamomile tea with honey is yummy and relaxing

Valerian root tea (yuck - I'd rather stay awake).

I hear Hops tea works (but it might be just as easy to drink a beer).

(no joke) If you can pry it away from your kitty - catnip tea. Never tried it, but they say it promotes a sound, restful sleep. ~giggle~ and you'll never have a mouse problem in your house, either!! ~giggle~

I'm leaving the ric's wife comment alone. But you have to know I'm cracking up inside!

Me, too. Ric, you did that very neatly, much better than the post I drafted and decided not to make. We do, you and I, have similar ideas --

    Herbal or prescription?

VA doc has me on Trazodone (200MG). Not for the average user though. Supposed to chase away the nightmares and demons. Works most of the time.... :D Wife gets a hold of it some times, probably to chase me out of her dreams. She will use some of the above herbal and over the counter things. For years I used either Dramamine, Melatonin, or some other over the counter promise of peaceful sleep.

After 35 years together we still like it Ric's way too.

The ones Tracey mentioned work fairly well. I cant remember the uses for hawthorn off the top of my head. The valerian dose work well as a muscel relaxer and sedative but since it smells/tastes like used sweat socks left in a gym locker for a week or so, it is best put into capsules and taken that way.

I have used Valerian in the past.....and it is GOD AWFUL! Even the capsules......blech...

Dr gave me 10 of something so perhaps my routine can get back to normal.....I don't want to take anything long term that may be habit forming....

I'm thinking the herbal route may work after I take this.....Have used Trazadone in the past....but feel groggy the next morning....

I think it's the stupid stupid stupid change in weather.....and should have noticed the Full Moon... I never sleep well then....duh....

    Thanks y'all...

It did take me a while to adjust the dose for my system, trouble is, like last night, I was tired, so didn't notice I forgot to take it. Bad night, early wakeup. At least it is not habit forming.
    I'm not touching that one...hehehe:D

You could also try some food things to help. There are chemicals in bannannas as well as apple seedsthat tend to help you sleep. You could also try getting some turkey to eat as a midnight snack for the triptaphan (sp?).
