This is one of the best articles I have read regarding guns, hiding and pointing out- this is how the Feds know you have a gun. A contributor at Skilled Survival wrote this and IMO hands down he did a fabulous job. In the write up there are links on how-to build and a nice floor plan to consider.

Not to hijack the thread, but we were out for dinner last night and as I am prone to do, I tuned into the conversation at the table across from us. The woman was telling the others about some guy teaching survival courses in a town near me, so I started paying attention. Then she tells them about how they have a super secret hidey hole for all their guns, and THEN tells them exactly where it is and what it looks like. "You'll NEVER find it if you don't know exactly what to look for," she assured them. Well honey, *I* know exactly what to look for now and a pleasant drive behind you tonight would show me exactly where you live. So truly, the secret to hiding your firearms from the Feds and everyone else is to not blab about where you hid them at the local sushi joint.

A fine example of poor Op Sec.. One may have the most brilliant means for securing and hiding a fire arm, or anything else for that matter, and still loose it all because of loose lip's..

Good link on hiding your weapons.. Can to that any storage items you would not want others to find as well..

Yeah, absolutely 'brilliant' of that woman. Even if she didn't reveal the exact location, she revealed the fact that she knew where it was so that the location could be forced from her with a little arm twisting and judicious application of pain.

We live in a world where some people are just plain ruthless. And in SHTF that number will grow exponentially as desperation sets in.

There was an episode on Walking Dead, season 4 I think, where the Gov (now known as One Eye Bri) is out on a scouting run with 2 guys from the freshly murdered Martinez's group. They come up on a group of people hiding in the woods, and the one guy's first reaction is that they need to take down that group to take all their stuff. His brother won't go along and insists they find something that doesn't involve stealing from the living. When they come back, they find the people all dead and their stuff taken. The tank driver guy blows up because someone else took "our stuff". In his mind, from the moment he saw that stuff, he considered it his own. The people around it were just in the way. I think there are a lot of people who will become the tank driver when push comes to shove, viewing everything they need as "our stuff" regardless of who it belongs to or what they will have to do to get it. They already display that behavior now in good times, whether it's fighting over a cheap TV at a Black Friday sale or a prime parking space. Add real, genuine need to the mix and the already tattered gloves will come off quickly.

True story, DW. I am a fan of TWD and remember that episode quite well. Seems about half who watch that show think it's about the walkers.
It's about how people will react in an apocalypse and some of the bizarre ( think Lizzy) behavior that could likely result, and what desperation will drive people to do.
Sucks about Glenn, if it turns out the way we've been led to believe.

I'm not sure if I prefer the way we think he may have gone out now to the way he's supposed to go out. No one needs a date with Lucille....

You do know that even most feds can read and now they will know exactly were to look don't you? Like when all the fake ID books came out and they started waiting for the idiots to use the books and then arrested them. Idiots like the ones in Rawls' book where they get the fake birth cert. In real life that will get you thrown in jail the second you lay your hands on them because they will be waiting for you. Too bad Rawls didn't try this first, it would make his books so much better if he benefited from his own advice.

Seriously, this article was frobably part of a BATF'Er briefing doc before it was even published.

Rely on imagination...very few of them have any.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

The one or two original ideas I have come up with for hiding things can't be shared online without making them worthless, so I'll just say that everyone bears their own burden of originality. So come up with an idea of your own, then search the web for it without using it as a search term. If you find your idea or any variation of it, abandon it. It's busted.

The most important thing to remember is that when the feds come for everyone's guns, they will not hunt with tape measures and metal detectors. They'll hunt with crowbars and sledgehammers, and heavy machinery if they decide to dig.

They will demolish your house in the process of proving you innocent of gun hoarding, and it won't bother them a bit. And if they do find a gun, they'll finish demolishing your house just to make sure there aren't two.

Your right on with this post. Confiscation will be a SHTF event that starts the second revolution. Thinking you can hide your guns is a sheeple fantasy that will get your home and property torn apart without compensation. Then when they find your stash you will be in a FEMA prison camp they will have to make for all the people arrested. Only way to deal with it is to fight fire with fire and bring it to them before they bring it to you.

On 9/12/2001, I bought a copy of the Army Manual of Improvised Munitions, just to see how long it would take the Effa-bee-eye to call me up and ask why. I'm still waiting for the call.
