sorry y'all over reacted and gave up that right. y'all didn't have a 2nd amendment

 

I didn't think it was funny. But it was interesting, I have never seen the movie.

 

There are many things that we don't have, and there are some things not worth emulating from other places. There never was a right to own and bear firearms, as is expressed in the US Constitution's 2nd Amendment. To give up a right, one must have had the right in the first place.

The essential difference between Australia and the USA is that Australia was given the keys to the holiday shack by the old folks, 1n 1901 when the youngsters were told that they were responsible enough to look after their own affairs. The Americans basically took the house keys from under the porch mat, and shot at the old folks until the old folks decided that trying to regain the keys from their bratty progeny was more trouble than it was worth. Mind you the old folks had a further go at trying to get the house keys back in 1812, with no more success than their earlier attempts during the revolutionary war.

Australia has only had two significant insurrections: The Battle of Vinegar Hill (New South Wales1804) and The Eureka Rebellion (Victoria 1854), neither of which went well for the revolting convicts and gold miners. A third, potential rebellion in Australia, was nipped in the bud, when conservative right wing paramilitaries were institutionally neck chopped before they could stage a coup d'état and do any real damage to the governance of New South Wales in the Early 1930's.

If there was any "over reaction", it was the conservative Australian Liberal Party / Australian National Party Coalition that reacted to the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, and provided the funds for a gun buy back scheme, and the impetus for States to restrict certain classes of automatic and semi automatic firearms by changing Statutary laws and regulations. Since 1996 there have been no mass shootings. The perpetrator of the Lindt Café siege in 2014 was armed with a shortened pump action shot gun, and caused only two fatalities. The perp killed one person, and the second fatality was the result of an accidental richocet from a round fired by police police when they stormed stormed the café.

The gun buy-back scheme had an additional bonus...suicide rates due to death by firearm have steadily fallen since Port Arthur, with no corresponding increase of suicide by alternative means.

 

well then I guess you have done better than your previous betters back in the good olde Uk. crime has risen. knives seem very popular and their celebrated unarmed bobbies long ago gave up that insanity. and who would have thought it of a penal colony? reach over and give yourself a pat on the back.

 

I think there are better fantasies than drooling over gun porn. The line is out of the film's script...not any gun envy or gun covetousness on my part. The firearm concealment under the sofa was interesting, and it was the reason that I posted the clip. The film is quite a good action film, but it gets a bit preachy and glurge filled towards the end. I much prefer Agora as a dramatic film.

AS one former penal colony in the Antipodes to an older and longer established agglomeration of former penal colonies in the New World, I'll take that for the backward compliment that it was meant to be. It don't nettle me none.

It would surprise many Americans that the American colonies were populated by a steady flow of transported convicts....I kind of think of them as a better class of settler than the whiney self righteous religious prigs who escaped from persecution in Olde England, to impose their own style of religious persecution in New World upon others who did not believe as they did....hmm....much like the present mob of refugees trudging their way to Europe.

 

Perhaps the quality of the convicts placed on those brit prison ships, bound for these fair shore, were of a better class than those shipped to the land of misshapened wild life..
