My kinda girl. I like it. I've built similar lean-tos and winter super shelters with the plastic fronts in the past and log walls as wind-breaks but never thought of a complete wall around the perimeter. Interesting indeed.
The wall also acts as a very good fire screen from all sides. And if it was banked up with brush pretty much all the way around, the whole camp would just look like a big pile of brush. That's a good way to not get spotted by casual passers-by. She must have wanted the view, because if the wind direction was bad the lean-to could have been faced in the opposite direction.
Agreed, about the fire / sleeping accommodation orientation to the prevailing wind. I have also thought of the idea of a wall, enclosing the campsite....though I would be more inclined to make it a vertical palisade with the top of the posts sharpened so that climbing over is a bit more of a challenge. The enclosure would enable one to enjoy a more secure sleep, providing a measure of security against feral predators.
