EDIT - This job has been filled. My message notifications have been shut off, so I will not receive any more messages. Thank you. ******************************************************** Hi, I have a small job opportunity for someone to video record about 45 minutes of instruction regarding how to use a folding knife for self defense. The job pays $150. If you are skilled in knife fighting, you just need an HD camera, film in a decent looking setting and complete it within a few days (sooner is better). You don't need to edit, just send me the raw footage totaling at least 45 minutes of usable material and I'll pay you. You can decide on the content, or follow an outline similar to this: - introduce yourself - explain why to a folding knife rather than other types - how to carry - how to draw fast - positioning yourself - defensed vs. an armed attacker - defenses vs. an unarmed attacker - any other tips you'd like to offer them (such as legal ramifications, etc.) - say goodbye to end the video Please message me here asap. Thanks, Bob
I can solve this without a video. You just looking for a how to vid? Lot better ways than to scam a prepper site...
As a martial artist for over twenty years, I say good luck in your endeavor. I hope if you plan on using a knife to defend yourself you know how to do it unarmed first, and you could prove that your life was in danger. Might not like prison food after slicing and dicing someone. YMMV
I'm not sure why you think I'm scamming. And as a martial artist with over 45 years experience, I can say "Wow, what a hostile forum!" Anyway, if anyone is interested in this project, please contact me - Bob
With that much experience my first thought is why would you need this forum? Why aren't you paying one of your students to film, Bob?
Hello @impro3000 welcome to the monkey. I think people are always naturally curious as to an offer to good to be true. I did have a couple of questions after reading your initial post- 1. what are you going to do with the footage? Teaching? Do's & Don'ts? 2. folding knife... what kind? Swiss Army or something bigger?
If anyone is interested, please ignore the commenters above and message me so I can answer any questions you have. It's a small job that could probably be done in a few hours. Hi Motomom - Thanks for an appropriate, non-accusing response! I'm surprised it sounds too good to be true... it's only 150 bucks. Anyway, the knife used in the video should be a spring-assisted blade, about 8" when fully opened (3 1/2" blade). The footage will be used primarily as an added bonus for purchases made by my customers in the self defense niche. If anyone needs more details, please message me. As it's related to my business, I prefer not to discuss it too much publicly, but we can chat via skype and I can quickly answer any questions.
A couple observations, then; 45 minutes of finished tape for 150 bux? Not counting setup, scripting, rehersal, and other preparations that's 200 bux an hour, not bad unless it has to be divided up between an opponent and camera operator. Add in the other items and it falls off fast. I don't know if there are any benefits to any members that would point toward them allowing reduced operational security by appearing in a vid that might wind up being widely distributed without other compensation. All the same, good luck with your venture.
Don't forget potential liability, and the fact that he plans to profit off of them while giving you a one time payoff... Ditto Rocky.
Reduced operational security? It's just a simple job posting. I hire people for similar work on other topics all the time. I give up.
opsec aside, 45 years in the arts and you wanna pay a stranger to demonstrate knife fighting techniques? And you can't give any detail because it's top secret? I'm not trolling you Bob, your post just has a faint scent to it that I just can't put my finger on. Regardless, welcome to the monkey. Hope you find what you need. Tons of people on you tube (all experts) who would take you up on it. Try Lenny Sly. Good luck!
Don't give up... It is just the Monkey Tree is populated by a fairly "Tough Crowd" on occasion, and are a bit suspicious of Newbies, that are pitching their stuff, on the very First Post.... Monkeys are first driven by OpSec, and then by looking for, or imparting, Information... We are a site that provides Information on Prepping, Survival, and generally spend most of our Bandwidth on those subjects... We have a number of Martial Artists, of various persuasions, here, and we do deal with such things in our forums.
Bob..... skimming, scamming.....what have you......what is the flavor of the day? Should I email you my banking information for that $150 now or after I deliver you that most awesome vid?! I will say in all honesty, with 45 years in martial arts, I would assume you have many counterparts, or proteges that would be happy to perform a simple vid just for the fun and to help a friend.... but then, that is just my opinion. Assuming you have been in the arts for 45 years, are you to old, handicapped or other, to put on a demonstration with a still cam, or do you lack those particular skills? What particular fighting style are you looking for? What is your preferred styles for your training in your own regime? Tell us about yourself.....and why should we be interested in your project....?! Do you follow my line of thought, I mean come on, $150 won't entice many, just with the time involved to put together a good vid..... which most here would fret over, until they had it just right. Waiting for more my friend......
Woulda had a lot better luck if you were a member here with some posts under your belt b4 u start trying to throw $ at people. Just sayn
At the end of the day, the reality is, it cannot be taught in a 45 minute film. Go to your favorite search engine and search for "books on knife fighting" and save the $150.
I mean, I could throw together that vid, I reckon. Shouldn't be too hard. I just had some points that needed answering, I too would like to know what EXACTLY your experiences are in the martial arts community.
Thank you! The reality is years of training to develop muscle memory. If one were to make a video using knife techniques for defence, your average Joe would learn enough to get into trouble. Let's face it, if it were necessary to use a knife, someone is dying and, most likely, someone is going to jail. There's a reason why they call it secret sh@t. By the time someone is ready to learn they've already learned the responsibility not to use it unless it's necessary. It's people that think they can just learn applicable techniques without discipline who not only give martial arts a bad name, but are a dangerous breed. Let's not even talk about capitalizing on the masses dumb enough to shell out money. Jmho
I guess that posting a knife-defense related job for my company to a knife-defense related forum and asking for interested parties to message me was way out of line on my part. I should expect to receive insults, accusations, explain the inner workings of my business, explain why I am not doing the job myself, and give the exact details of my history in the martial arts in order to hire someone for the position. Anyway, thank you for your comments. The job has already been filled and was successfully completed by a friendly gentleman from another forum. Best wishes to everyone here.
