Took the kids to the Arizona Memorial recently. There are still a few survivors. And we often see them visiting the memorial. I make sure to not only thank them for their service, but to have the kids do so too. Just like any veteran and uniformed service men and women.

To all the veterans and their families, mahalo for your service! To all the fire, police, and other uniformed service folks, a big mahalo to you too.

Note the [usaf] did not exist at the time. It became a separate service in 1947.

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii -Jerry Cabiness, son of Frank R. Cabiness, passes the urn containing his father’s remains to the National Park Service Dive Team during his interment ceremony here Dec. 23, 2011. Survivors of the attacks on the USS Arizona can be interred at the USS Arizona Memorial.
