I am looking at an AR-15 made by Anderson . This is the rifle optics ready with all Magpul furniture. I really like it. Does anyone have any bad news about this manufacturer? They are asking 599.99 free shipping. Anderson AM-15 223/556 Optics Ready Rifle with Magpul Furniture - $599.99 (Free S/H on Firearms) | Slickguns
Just to clarify I want a drab green olive colored rifle for my area. I can get a bunch of different black ones here for a few dollars less I am seriously considering buying this one.
Looks like it has everything -chrome barrel which is M4 heavy design capable of 5.56 and .223, flash hider (most likely removable, too. The single point sling attachment is nice, usually folks have to buy that separate, plus the Magpul furniture is sweet. I would only be concerned with the bolt and the 1:8 twist of the bore, but as far as prices go, that's hard to beat. I remember buying mine piecemeal back in 2009/2010, and it ran me well over $1,000, but that was the initial Obama-scare period.
I have several builds on Anderson lwr receivers with no problems. Also have a few complete Anderson uppers doing just fine. I have no negatives on Anderson AR parts. I have never bought a complete rifle from them, but the price certainly is acceptable.
I'd go for it. If you decide not to purchase the rifle, you always can send the 600 bucks to me. The 1:8 twist will stabilize standard projectiles up to maybe 77 gr. or so. I read somewhere it's also the minimum for stabilizing the new M855A1 62 gr. which is much longer due to its "unleaded" construction. Haven't seen any surplus for sale as of yet. It's probably too recent manufacture. Used to have a barrel with 1:9 twist that did pretty well even with 55 gr., but no longer own those types of firearms.
Anderson is well respected. They are one of the few companies that actually manufactures uppers and lowers, and are the OEM source for many other companies including S&W IIRC. I friend of mine is doing a couple of builds using their lowers. They look great to me and perfectly mate up with my Aero Precision uppers. If you want a piston AR-15, buds gun shop has Adams AR-15's on for $630, also has free shipping. They are listed as blems, but actually overstock from the last panic. The Adams piston system is bomb proof. I've done two builds using their system and they have worked flawlessly so far. In fact, the only problem on those builds was one out of spec buffer tube I purchased locally. The barrels Adams uses are melonited, and are every bit as durable as chrome lined while being easier to clean and typically more accurate than chrome lined. Adams Arms 16" Carbine 5.56 30+1 Piston Blem $629.00 SHIPS FREE I just purchased an Adams 308, an AR-10 variant, and I can tell you that their lifecoat finish is the best black finish I have seen. Like you, I stay away from black. I prefer foliage green with FDE stocks, grips, hand guards and mags. It does a pretty fair pseudo camouflage. I'm still going to Cerakote this guy after I break it in and finish swapping out parts, but that factory finish is frankly outstanding. The rifle comes with a 1 MOA lifetime guarantee, I don't know if the AR-15's do or not.
Nice - a piston gun for $630! Never thought I'd see the day. Just a couple years ago the conversion kits alone were $400.
Well I thank you all for the reports but it didn't happen. The gun was "NOT" Olive drab like the picture and I could not get one in the color I wanted so I got a DPMS Panther Oracle local for a 100.00 less. So far pretty happy with the rifle. Now wondering what ammo will shoot the best through it. The rifle is stock with Chrome molly barrel. Not sure of the twist be it 1/8 or 1/7 . It is a production barrel not a custom.
King did you get BUIS?(backup iron sites) This is IMO the best rear BUIS around. Dual aperture(flip down aperture that works for LD or CQB work. A.R.M.S 40l /SP Here is the manual explaining how it works https://www.armsmounts.com/manuals/40L OP Manual.pdf The large and small aperture up and down The rear site locks down or up. Get a "Zero Mag" holo sight like a an AimPoint and this site will be "coincident" meaning the red dot and the iron sites will line up. It give you an instand visual check on the alignment of you optics. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-part...w-profile-sight-sku100004800-25157-57888.aspx If your DPMS came with a standard front site, you are set if not look into a Yankee Hill flip up front sites http://www.brownells.com/search/index.htm?k=yankee+hill+machine&r_o=18&avs|Style_1=Flip-Up+Sights
1:8 OR 1:7 should stabilize 62 gr pellets and up to say 72, tho' the heavies will work better at 1:7. If you are very lucky and the gun likes it, 1:8 might let you use 55 grain pills. Each gun will show a preference, so some testing is well worth the time and money.
Here's your OD green (and others): http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...erosol-paints/duracoat-aerosol-prod60410.aspx Pretty durable, but will wear off with heavy use - just touch it up when needed. I like that notch at the top for longer ranges . I've been pretty pleased with Troy folding BUIS, a local shop sells the pair (front and rear) in black or FDE for $200.00. I also prefer the round HK style front to the standard winged design, for me it's more natural to line things up that way. If you aren't planning on an optic consider fixed sights - cheaper and fewer parts to break. Now you need a boatload of mags before an executive order renders them unobtainable. Same with ammo. I'd put my money in those three things first: sights, ammo, mags.
What works nicely for camouflaging rifles and changing the scheme as the seasons change is BowFlauge and WD-40 (rags, a toothbrush etc.) will remove it. @Kingfish The .223/5,56 is odd, usually they state Wylde chamber or .223 Wylde. See RRA, Barnes and others websites. Although, the Wylde is a proprietary design, they might be using it for free??? It's the external dimensions and lead angle as found in the military 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge and the 0.2240 inch freebore diameter as found in the civilian SAAMI .223 Remington.
Check this out. Long, but the bolded sections summarize well. 5.56 vs .223 - What You Know May Be Wrong - LuckyGunner.com Labs One takeaway is the often mentioned item that some rifles like you, some don't, and it (mostly) depends on the ammo.
As Lucky Gunner mentioned "Popped primers are definitely a sign of excess pressure or an abnormal pressure curve, and should not be ignored. They can become wedged in some of the more important bits of an automatic rifle, causing it to stop functioning, and while this could be annoying at the range, it could also be fatal in a self-defense situation."ammo and the chamber of the rifle." Although popped primers are not a good thing; the Wylde, Fulton and others chamber increase accuracy using either 5,56 or .223. As the round is fired in "correct chamber," they also cancel the popped primer effect. Lucky gunner is ignoring tolerance. Look at the reamer dimensions, base diameter PTG .223 Rem Match, .3779, Clymer, .3804 PTG .223 Rem. Ask any machinist; all dimensions have a min and max deviation from nominal. http://www.saami.org/pubresources/cc_drawings/Rifle/223 Remington.pdf As the second picture in the SAAMI drawing states Chamber Unless otherwise noted all all dia. +.002. The .3594 outside diameter is acceptable at .3594 to .3614; this does not include the case wall thickness and its tolerance. The pressure is 55-60K psi and those thousandths of an inch will have their effect. Length TOL +.015 Using the 1.4338 that means it is acceptable at 1.4338 to 1.4488 and anywhere in between. The pressure is 55-60K psi and those thousandths of an inch will have their effect. In comparison "As a point of reference, the overpressure at the Oklahoma City bombing was estimated in the range of 4000 psi." Bomb - New World Encyclopedia "This is somewhat true – some manufacturers do forge rifling and chambers with one mandrel, in one process. Others forge the rifling and then ream the chamber as a separate process, much like it would be done after cut or button rifling processes. I have observed seven hammer forges in operation, and discussed the pros and cons of both methods with a number of gunsmiths, engineers, technicians, and machinists in the United States and Europe." Many ARs have a part called a barrel extension. http://www.brownells.com/items/ar-15-barrel-extension.aspx Some hammer forged barrel manufacturers forge that into the barrel. One of the major issues with accuracy is the alignment of all the components in an assembly. Removing the need for a barrel extension, means alignment is improved. "Companies like Beretta value the hammer forged chamber and rifling because it eliminates the inconsistencies – both in the “length” of the chamber and the alignment of the chamber with the rifling, which can suffer based on the quality of the employee performing the work – that result from performing the process separately. That said, they don’t use this one-step process for every barrel they make." Lucky Gunner agrees. FN, Steyr, Daniel Defense and others hammer forge barrels for a reason. It is not worker inconsistency. it is removing as many alignment tolerances as possible. Alignment tolerance deviation is much more difficult than the size. In addition, I would read Fulton Armory's thoughts also: Fulton Armory: 5.56 Ammo in .223 Chamber
I'd just stop overthinking it and buy a shload of 5.56, then run enough through it to know I can rely on it. Don't fret about XM193 vs M855, just buy it while there is no panic. Buy at least 1,000 rounds, 2,000 better to stash and 200 - 500 for proofing and practice, The rifle is the cheap part...ammo, sights, scopes, mounts...
I'm an accuracy junkie so I can't stop thinking about it. However, I would not agree the rifle is the cheap part unless one purchases a high end scope for a 400 meter rifle. A 1000 yard glass on a 400 meter rifle is a waste. X2 but more than 2000 and in more calibers than in just 5.56. Ditto on proofing. In addition, know the difference between POI of the different brands of ammunition in the stash. I buy in quality because it is cheaper. The 5.56 stash consists of IMI, PRC, Privi, Federal, S&B, SSA, Independence, LC, Winchester etc. and their POI all varies. Just because it says M193 or M855, the POI is slightly different. So what does different mean at 200 meters? It is the difference between hitting or missing the top 3" of a cantaloupe at 200 meters or about the distance between the eyes and the top of a head. I take our weapons as seriously as I do our food and water.
I did not get open sights with it. Flat top, optics ready. I have Blended Bifocals and can not shoot opens. I am ordering another Burris AR-332 Prism for it. I had that scope on my last one and for defense I out shot an entire Militia unit with it. It is a 3x reticle sight red, green or black with a dead battery or off. I can aquire a target faster and way more accurate then Opens. The Burris doesn't need a battery to work, battery is just for colored reticle. The chamber says multical. The dealer told me it shoots both 5.56 and .223. 16 inch barrel carbine. Dust cover and forward assist. Came with one 30 round mag. Ill be testing it out this week. Still need that optics and some ammo. Im planning on green tipped 62 grain rounds if I can afford them.
@Kingfish That's a great optic, I'm sold on prismatic scopes like that for close range. I use a 1x Vortex spitfire, also prismatic, on my AR's and love it. Unlike standard red dots and holographic scopes I see a nice crisp image instead of a blur due to my astigmatism. Great scope for us old bastiges. I use the 1x so I can sight with both eyes open. My AO is mostly woodlands jungle so I like the wider field of view that 1x gives me. I still have BUIS just in case the glass breaks, and I wouldn't be afraid of inexpensive polymer ones like the MagPul if cost was an issue. For longer distances I have an AR-10 with a crisp 3x9 scope that also has a red dot in the middle. It's amazing how much quicker that little cue is for target acquisition. The green tip ammo is M855/SS109. It's better for penetration if you are facing folks with body armor, but won't defeat any designed for more than pistols. It's the same stuff the BATF unsuccessfully tried to outlaw months back. Still available, and not much more than XM193. Get it now, though, because I suspect an executive order will occur before long and the resulting panic will make it scarce and expensive.
I am buying up lots of ammo right now. I had the Burris before and love it out to 100/150 yards. I also shoot with both eyes open when on the move with it. Drop the reticle on target and squeeze. Its like lazer. Wicked optic for defense. I have a Thompson center Icon in 30-06 for those long range defense shots. 3 by 9 by 40 Leupold dimension 2x . Awesome long range scope. My wife also has a long range 30-06 , Tika hunter with the same scope. The AR-15 for me will be my choice when patrolling my area. My molle vest has 6 pouches for 30 round mags and with one in the rifle gives me 210 rounds plus handgun with 20 rounds and my Gerber. Ill most likely have the bulk of my ammo in 5.56 55 grain ball unless this rifle refuses to shoot it.
