That's what is so dangerous about licensing --it's a privilege (and a contract) issued by "government" to the citizenry, and as such it can be restricted at will and even revoked.

I am sure I'm not the only one who finds it unacceptable to see "government" issuing privileges to a people who are supposed to be sovereign and granted the privilege for government to exist in the first place. It's a complete 360 from reality, and perhaps the very best example of tyranny in action.

I do feel for my northern neighbour’s and their troubles with politicians.. I have found some that venture south of the border to be amazed that we are "allowed" to carry a pistol without "permission" from the political master's..

I will confess that I am ignorant of the historical political basis for what go's on up there.. I am always willing to learn more about what may adversely impact my brother Monkey's..

The gentleman being interviewed mentions an interesting point. The furtherance of gun control depends on the ignorance of the non-gun owning public, who are led to believe that no gun controls exist.
Same story here in the US.

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

    I could not agree more.

Canada is not a country plagued by gun violence. They have no "need" for more gun control. If Canada was plagued by gun violence, the solution for them would be the same as for us: Let the citizens carry open or concealed. That would put a stop to the "gun violence".

Here's an interesting statistic: When the police stop an "active shooter" the average body count is 14.3 citizens dead. When a citizen stops an "active shooter" the average body count is 2.3 citizens dead.

(Don't have a footnote for that one.)

The truth about gun control in Canada is the same truth as the gun control "issue" in America: It's all about the government disarming the citizenry so the people will have no recourse to their enslavement by tyrants.

I get into this argument all the time, whenever someone boasts of "exercising their freedom" by getting a CCW permit. I tell them that going to the government to get permission to exercise their birthright isn't exercising freedom, it is exchanging that freedom for security. Free men don't need permission. Of course they don't like it when I burst their bubble like that...but hey, it has to be said. It pains me to no end how we have come to accept this nonsense as some sign of our freedom.

When grandson was in tiger and bear; the den was at the local police station. One of the parents was a LEO and did a show and tell with his cruiser.
One of the mothers drove a very expensive vehicle and when he asked for a driver's license, she handed him hers. After he entered the information; he looked at me, then at the screen. I looked and she had a CCW; it was in the first few lines of info.

    Just an FYI.

Good for that Mom.... My wife has had a CCW for Decades.... A Seattle Cop, one time, asked her what she was afraid of? Her answer blew me away.... "Not a God Dam thing!" He was so stunned, he just issued her a warning for "A dirty Rear License Plate" and drove on.... We still giggle about it to this day.......

A big thumbs up to your Mom.

What was the surprise, usually people in 100K cars believe their cell and 911 are all the protection they need. Amazing how they never heard of response time....

AlaskaChick is usually the sweetest, mildest, unimposing, Lady, anyone could ever want to meet.... But once Railed, I wouldn't want to be Out in Front of Her and within 100 Yds.... She is a "Crack Shot" with her Stainless Dan Wesson, with the 8" Barrel, Mounted.
When we go out and "ReCycle our Glass & Bottles" by shooting them, floating in the Inlet, off the Dock.... It is "One Shot, one Kill" usually at about 30-50 Yds....

I knew it was bad in Canada but had no idea. You have my sympathies and I hope that things turn around, but have doubts as long as Quebec holds all the power. This is unfortunately very close to the near future in my current state.

Using a spring type air rifle or pistol, we shoot acorns in the backyard. :D

As the rifle has about the same length of pull as a CF rifle; it is a good way to practice inexpensively to avoid the skills going stale.
A "adult precision" air rifle is very accurate and I've dropped a few raccoons raiding the bird feeders with it. Although

There is really no reason to argue.
Often the facts are not as perceived.
The right to carry in my state was removed by a statute brought on with the end of the War between the states. In such a case the law has to be changed. This sometime takes years and proves not only the right to carry but also the peoples' opinions about the mistakes made when Carpet Baggers invaded the south.

The result in my state is seen below and proves State's Rights are Number 1 In Texas.

    Texas Open Carry Law

....Although....it runs exactly the same penalties for me, in city, as discharging a fire arm. Even bow and arrow is classified as a "firearm". The only hunting tool I can take game with inside of city limits, is a slingshot. (It is just slower than the foot per second ruling,
I know this from being in the back of the cruiser, and demanding to see in writing, the ordinance, authorizing them to cease my air rifle. After 2 hours of reasoning logically, and breaking down the requirements, by word, in the end, I made them laugh till they nearly peed themselves, and I got my rifle back, and the charges dropped.

The arguments start because they don't like me pointing out the reality of what they are doing. I used to do a lot with the NRA back in the day...and while I am still a life member, we had a parting of the ways over the CCW issue when they started pushing it as a matter of policy a few decades ago. My contention was that it is defacto registration...something we've been fighting for over a century...and that we should be pushing for no-permit carry. They took the politically expedient, reasonable sounding, incrementalist route, which I can understand, but I don't have to agree with or support.

I too, used to be a NRA member, and had to drop them. They NEVER, EVER, STOP DEMANDING MONEY. The junk mail never ends, and while I like the magazine, it ain't worth the constant harassment for more and more money. They spend all my money asking for more, so they lost mine.

I dropped the NRA, like a HOT Potato, when they fired Neil Knox, decades ago.... Yes, I liked Charlie Heston as Pres. but not enough to rejoin.... I get to see the NRA Hunter Rag, as a Summer Resident, gets it, Here, and He said I can read it, if he isn't around.... But still not enough to rejoin... I am NOT much of a Join'er, normally, but the Monkey is a MAJOR Exception....

I joined the NRA when it became obvious that the liberal controlled Democrats were going for the throat of all gun owners. I'm a life member and I get maybe one snail mail per month and one or two email. That's it. I think they may have gotten the message about turning member away.
