A friend once called me paranoid because I keep a loaded firearm in every major room of the house (not bath or kitchen). Maybe I overdo it, but it seems that since I have the guns, I should have one nearby if something goes awry (I have no kids to worry about).

So I was wondering how many rooms have how many of what guns for the other folks here.

    My rundown is as follows:
Living Room - Rossi Snubby 357
Bedroom - Colt King Cobra 357
Plus a 38 Derringer for my wife
Office/Comp. Room - Single Action 357 Peacemaker for me
Single Action 22 LR Peacemaker for my wife
And in the bedroom closet is an easily accessible AR15 w/ 3 loaded 30 rd.
mags just in case things get really thick.

Wife and 4 kids at home still.

Master Bedroom - 1911 on my side of the bed, Beretta 92FS on my wife's side

Teenage Daughter Room - Ruger 22/45

21 year old Daughter - Rossi 357 Snubbie loaded with 38 Special

10 year old Son - Room is in between the other bedrooms, no gun

Living Room, Kitchen - Remington 870

Before anyone squeals, all of my kids started shooting when they were 6 years old with a Youth size Single Shot 22. Also the gun in my Teenage Daughter's room is there for me to try to get to first, and if I can not get there, and she hears other shots, she is to try to get out first, but protect herself in her room if anyone other than our family comes in.

    No squealing here Gillman ;)

My father taught us to use guns at an early age and always kept loaded ones around.... and we survived! In fact, he taught us that if anyone we don't know comes into the house.... empty the gun into them and then run to the neighbors house.

Single shot 20 ga in the truck with 5 shells on the stock and 1 in the chamber.

Rossi .357 on me any time I have pants on and on the headboard other wise.

All the rest of the guns are in the bedroom and with the exception of the black poders rifles all are loaded with a round chambered all the time.

got kids (now teenage but that's worse than rugrats, you can count on moody teen angst or horseplay to go bad). trigger locks on everythingexcept the kabar, it's pretty handy..95%of Ammo locked up in padklocked ammo cans...I've only taken the locks off and loaded a couple of time s when I felt uneasy...

Please don't take offense here, but I gotta think if you're armed to the teeth all day, every day, I'd be thinking about moving to a less threatening area (how many gunfights with miscreants can you expect to live through? Sometimes luck just goes the other way...). I live in a quet suburb out side a quiet "city" of 40,000 far less than 1 murder a year in the paper, few gang bangers, I just don't feel sufficiently threatened. It'd be diferent if My daughter was old enough to move out and didn't have friends over. I was trained "You can't apply lethal force unless somebodies life is threatened. You can't shot someone for stealing your car or tv set"; Though if some one is in my livingroom at 2 A.m., I don't see any way to think theyare planning otherwise.. I admit, I am torn on the unloaded situation and don't begrudge any body's different choice.

What do you keep loaded in house.

Upstairs in my bedroom I keep a 12ga pump under the bed and a 45.acp in the night stand along with a flash light, pepper spray an ASP baton and assorted other goodies. Down stairs I keep a .357. All other are in a gun safe. I keep a .380 on me at all times while in the house. Regards, Prepareordie

I drove home this weekend after a month at sea on a salvage job near Sabine, Texas. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was a .357 Smith lying beside my wife on the coffee table, rather than inside the clock-safe by the door. I raised an eye-brow and she said that the night before, someone had knocked on the door late and when she looked, there was no-one there. The dogs barking probably scared them away but she called a neighbor to do a drive-by, none-the-less. Must have made an impression on her because she asked if I would take her to the range for a bit of practice; something she almost never does.

Bravo for your Mrs., Seacowboys! A weapon is useless without accuracy and nothing gives more confidence than a nice grouping on your target.

Tango, at least for me its not a matter of liveing in a bad area (anymore), its 2 things. First is that I figure I would much rather have it 10,000 days and never need it than to not have it 1 day and never need anything again. I figure while on any given day my needing it to deal with a criminal is astronomicaly unlikely, the consequences of needing it and not haveing it and being able to use it at a moments notice would result in me or another inocent persons death, so I just took to carrying all the time.

The second reason is actualy why I got my permit to carry. I live on a small far and we have chickens that get attacked by predators from time to time as well as snakes and that I have been eye to eye with a panther on our place at about 20 yards. So I generaly always carried around the farm incase I needed to dispatch a snake or 4 legged predator and kept a shotgun in the truck since the time I cam home and 2 foxes came out of the chicken house as I parked the truck. From time to time I would be out working around the place and carrying and need to run to town for something and either not want to go to the house to put the gun away or forget I had it on. Wanting to avoid hassels from LEOs I just got a permit to carry so that if I forgot I had it on and got caught it was no big deal. Then I started thinking more about reason 1 and just took to carrying all the time.

As far as the ones in the house, they stay loaded just because I figure that if everyone with acess to them KNOWS they are loaded then there is never any horseplay since they already know it is ready to fire as well as haveing lived in the city both in the burbs and in the nasty parts of town and know things can happen anywhere.

On the note of security, just a couple months ago an 80 year old man was murdered and robbed in his own rural drive way about 20 miles from here this summer. I think it was only about the 3rd homicide in the COUNTY in over a year. I dont figure to be the next one or be forced to stand idle and watch the next one happen even if it is rare.
