Ben Carson has joined the lengthening list of Republican Party 2016 Presidential hopefuls who have thrown in the towel.

    2016 Republican presidential race dropouts

Donald Drumpf hasn't done Ben Carson any favours....Being compared with a child molester by a member of his own Party (GOP) didn't help Dr Ben very much....but it does say something about the lack of ethical conduct of Donald Drumpf. Throwing Ben Carson under the bus by sharp practice shows DD for the class act that he evidently isn't. Donald is vulnerable to his own pathologies being dissected and critically examined.....one can only hope.

I don't believe Carson ever really stood a chance in the dirty world of politics. He is too clean and with no experience in that world. I think he would have been eaten alive. What I do hope is that he is given a cabinet post, maybe Surgeon General.

Do you think Ben Carson will live through the 2106 Presidential election? By then he will be 154 -- so I doubt he will live long enough to drop out of that one!!

Carson in many ways represents the soul of the Republican party, however IMO he is not Presidential material. I agree with @RickR in that he should have a high level position in the next administration.

When homosexuality was an overwhelming cultural taboo in America it was commonplace for homosexuals who were afraid of confronting their feelings to be the most outspoken people against homosexuality. I submit that chello is not only a closet Trump supporter, but by his obsession with the Donald to be, in fact, a Drumpfophile. As they say, "methinks the lady prosteth too much"...

    Drump is poor..

You spell 0bama like this Obama and I spell it like this 0bama. The difference is an O and a zero; quite applicable.. :)

The left loathes any minority that proves you don't need liberal whites providing for everything from cradle to grave. Carson left the Progressive Plantation so he must be crushed. Progressiveism/Liberalism/Socialism/Communism are just words for slavery that go down a bit easier. Had he been in the running they would have gone all out to smear him like the did Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice.

Look to the origins of the Democrat party and you will see those who opposed freeing the slaves.

I think @chelloveck is just giving us a friendly warning from down under. Australia IMO has its own version of Donald Trump-

    451783806.

Meet Clive Palmer, a billionaire and was elected when he formed the PUP party.

There is something bizarre going down in Australian politics, and its name is Clive Palmer.

In 2013, this mining billionaire formed a political party he called the Palmer United Party (PUP). Some people paid attention, most tried to look the other way.

The Crazy State of Australian Politics: a Primer

Love this guy. He built a dinosaur park with all plastic dinosaurs. He is building a replica of the Titanic and he seems to be shaking up the political system in Australia.

Fast forward to more modern times; ask who signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957, it was Eisenhower.
"The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Pub.L. 88–352, 78 Stat. 241, enacted July 2, 1964) is a landmark piece of civil rights legislation in the United States that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin."
    What did the democrats do?
"Democratic Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, an ardent segregationist, sustained the longest one-person filibuster in history in an attempt to keep the bill from becoming law. His one-man filibuster lasted 24 hours and 18 minutes; he began with readings of every state's election laws in alphabetical order. "
They set a record that still has not been broken.

Who signed the Civil Rights act of 1960 that introduced Federal inspections and penalties for obstructing people from voting, again Eisenhower.
I'm having a hard time coming up with what the democrats did.. They did ignore Black Panthers at the polls with clubs when 0bama ran...

LBJ signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act into law:
"The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, is considered one of the crowning legislative achievements of the civil rights movement."

Since then, the democrats claimed credit for the 1957 and 1960 Acts.

Has @chelloveck come out and said he lives in Australia? I assumed from just what I picked up that he was Australian born but now lives in the USA and thought he was a Green Card holder or naturalized citizen...which would explain his interest in American politics and policy and our social and culture problems and differences. I can't think of any other reason. I have friends all over the world but there couldn't care who is running for American President and our regs and laws because they have enough problems in their own countries.

    Does it really matter?
After the election, we will probably decide that we made yet another bad choice.
The real problem is .. what we have to choose from kinda sucks.

It's like going to the butcher shop looking for a USDA prime steak but noticing that all you are offered is USDA choice .. or even worse, select. If you are hungry, and don't care, you'll just grab one and go. Yep, the lesser of the lessor.

I guess we won't be telling the DNC / RNC that what they are offering us sucks. We just keep taking it.

We will get what we deserve. It'll probably be chewy like an old shoe.

    I'
I'm not sure that that is necessarily the case. There are folks here who are positively in love with Donaldo....talking up his being a "breath of fresh air'...and so forth. People go to town on Hilary's faults and failings, yet seem inclined to give Mr Drumpf a free pass, I suspect because he says the things that he thinks others want to hear....whether he actually has any personal commitment to what he is mouthing or not....

We hear from Drumpf a lot of puffery as to how great he is, how wealthy he is, how well connected he is, how fantastic a negotiator is, but he is very minimalist on policy. He is trumpeting clearly what he would like to do, sound bite by sound bite and PR headline by PR headline....but the how he is achieve these objectives?? He's vague: like killing all the families of ISIS fighters has me leaning forwards in great anticipation, wondering how that idea is going to play out.

Edit: I agree.....Ben was a long shot...I'm not sure why he even gave it a shot. He's a nice fellow, but being nice is not quite enough by itself. He has only served to dilute GOP resources, increased the level of perceived disunity within the GOP, and has merely given Drumpf oxygen to trot out his inimitable brand of gutter fighting.

If Carson really believed in supporting the GOP, his best contribution to the party would be to rally support behind a candidate who had a ghost of a chance of leading a viable, competent and credible Presidential administration.

OMG....Surgeon General???? It doesn't quite follow that being a competent neurosurgeon necessarily equips one to be a competent Surgeon General. Sure, fossicking around in a patient's cranium to improve the health outcomes of a patient is a highly skilled job, requiring certain cognitive abilities, and skills manipulating medical instruments and technologies....Being a Surgeon General is a whole different ballgame.

I don't think that he has the talent for it. Managing an OR surgical team of a dozen or so medical specialists is not the same as ramrodding a huge government department, managing a budget of many, many millions of dollars and developing and implementing government health policy at the national level.

I also have to wonder how he would go when the science supporting public health policy is in conflict with his personal religious convictions? Which takes precedence???
