Doing the newb thing

Hello everyone, doing the new thing, new to this forum, found it from a google search for radio info. Not a new to forums or survival, looking forward to adding another tool to my toolbox of websites, learning some new stuff and giving back a little.

I am a family man, everything I do and know I do with them and teach them. Wife and 3 daughters. Full time Military, Communications, at the tail end of my career but still hard charging. Grew up in Utah hunting, fishing, skiing and all things outdoors. I'm pretty good with computers, locks, radios, guns, knives and people. I can teach anyone anything, even if I don't fully understand it myself, a boss of mine told me I could teach a 4 year old to pilot a submarine without ever having stepped foot in one or having one there if I was given the owners manual and a couple days to research. My weakness is medical(I know first aid, CPR, etc..) and farming.

Looks like you got a great site I look forward to figuring it all out.

You mention Comms, are you a amateur radio operator yet?

 

I have my tech license got a.few hts a icom if7000 a 2M base station some old tube receivers and some other randomness. I study for general than get preoccupied with other things.

You will fit in nicely! This is the only forum I do because I like the attitude, knowledge levels and maturity here. I don't have time for silly nonsense and know-it-all types. The knowledge level is amazing but you will never hear anyone say they are an expert - even when they obviously are. Debates are common but you will seldom hear arguments or even an unkind word.

I myself am a newbie and this has become a part of my day. I've only been here maybe a couple months, not long. It's my place to think out loud with like-minded people that see being prepared as wise and prudent and our country's Constitution as something more than just words on an old piece of paper.

Lot's of military and ex-military types around here, including me. I did 8 years, Army, Signal Corps then spent the rest working with the military and Intel guys. I miss it - a lot. I just returned about a year ago after a lifetime overseas. I did lots of things but my forte is wideband communications, satellite and/or microwave. And, yes, I need to get off my butt and get my ham license!

25S myself, used to be 31S, which was a merger of 29Y and 31M way back in the day before my time. Hope I don't offend anyone but I don't post my FCC ID due to my thoughts on OPSEC, but if we do get down on the radio I will share it with others via PM. Glad to see all the welcomes, love it when I accidentally find a place and get a warm welcome like this. I've been on many for a few years now and they are starting to get redundant, arrogant and fanboys really bad, which I know you have everywhere, but some of these keyboard commandos get a little crazy for me.

 

It is not recommended to post a call sign, for the very reasons you cite.
However, BTPOST does keep a list of those monkeys who wish to share their call sign in case of emergency. It is kept private unless there is need. I am on that list.

LOL got a place already when I get there, West Point, my dad is ready to retire and sell me the home I spent 8th grade till I joined the military in and I go back to all the time, got a little bit of land, a barn, a coop with chickens, horses and a goat. Nothing great but it's a good start and it's Utah, what's not to like there.
