"It has begun." Okay my roommate has decided to take the step to find herbal natural remedies to see if she can get off the drugs the pharmacy peddle. I will do research on this though if anyone had advice or knows of substitutes, feel free to let me know.

She has IBS, vertigo, migraines, shunts because of hydrocephalus, takes pills for hormone replacement, melatonin to keep sleep cycle, chloresterol, acid reflux and rapid heart rate.

I know her chances are slim, though to me it's a challenge worthy of trying.

Will look into it. Have to research if she can have honey. She's allergic to bee and wasp venom. Don't think it would be a problem though can't be too careful.

Have her read up on this 10 Signs You Have Candida Overgrowth & What To Do About It
Candida is yeast is fungus. Both men and women have it. From the description is sounds like she has probably taken loads of antibiotics. Antibiotics can screw up you system and if she has had long term use then she has an imbalance. She needs Acidophilus everyday.

Also Apple Cider Vinegar- good stuff but tastes nasty

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Likewise, check her diet for any amount of Aspartame, which often makes anything bad even worse.

Will do. I know it's going to have to be one step at a time. Her system would definitely crash if she went cold turkey on all at once.

I wish you both well, TMH. I am unable to help you much with your quest. However I wish to say, that with herbalist and similar remedies may be difficult to formulate an effective dosage, because different raw ingredients will often have different amounts of the active ingredients which create the therapeutic effect. Also, combinations of active ingredients at different strength levels may cause unpredictable reactions in the patient. At least in western pharmaceutical manufacturing, these things have usually gone through some regulated degree of scientific research and evaluation, and the most common adverse reactions have been identified and the risk factors to some extent are quantifiable.

I would suggest that treatment and testing of alternative medications should be applied to one health issue at a time. Treat, stabilise, evaluate, and then move on to resolving the next health issue. If you start treating the whole range of health issues simultaneously, and if there is an adverse reaction, it may not be clear what health issue the adverse reaction is complicating, and it may not be clear, which of a number of active ingredients is one causing harm.

Take it a step at a time, to the point that you are confident that the next step can be safely negotiated.

Clean, pure water (have the source tested for PH and TDS) *especially if it's bottled water* An alternative is to use distilled water and eat healthy for vitamins and supplements. This alone will help considerably for many of her symptoms, especially the migraines. What we choose to eat and drink daily really does have an effect. Daily exercise, it doesn't have to be much. It could be as simple as walking a few flights of stairs daily at first, maybe a brisk walk for 30 minutes. Getting a decent sleep at night is tough for many people. The melatonin is natural since our bodies produce this on its own, so if she can eat, drink, and exercise properly as well as go to bed at a respectable time and hold that pattern, she should find sleep to be more restful. I would boost her immune system, too. There are lots of ways one can go about this, but a daily dose (through food or individual vitamins and not multivitamins) of Vitamin E, B12, and D will set her on the right course. I would also take fish oil if there isn't a regular amount of seafood in her diet. Herbal tea is very helpful, too. I would suggest organic, loose leaf tea in bulk (not expensive this way) and steer away from flavored teas.

The rest was covered from what I've seen. She needs a healthier diet and plenty of good water and exercise more than anything else.

Melatonin has been used safely for up to 2 years in some people. However, it can cause some side effects including headache, short-term feelings of depression, daytime sleepiness, dizziness, stomach cramps, and irritability. Do not drive or use machinery for four to five hours after taking melatonin.

How long she been taking them pills? Seems to be some other interesting stuff on it out there, including some stuff saying that taking it to sleep is BAD juju. Figured you might want to know, just did a quick google search for side effects (standard procedure with meds). Some of them looked like stuff you mentioned.

The referenced publication is very reasonably priced, and it is fairly recently published. Some much older publications may have some interesting historical curiosity, but lack recent scientifically researched value.

As @Brokor said drink water. Water is so important and most do not drink enough. She can always squeeze a bit of lemon in there if she does not like the taste of plain water. Health Benefits of Lemon Water | Wellness Mama I happen to like lemon and water. I also will throw in sprigs of mint, raspberries etc... and let them sit in the fridge it is a nice change from the norm and it looks pretty also.

I disagree with the distilled water. There has been research on distilled water and it not only removes the toxins (allegedly) it also removes the good minerals (allegedly) Early Death Comes From Drinking Distilled Water

Beware of taking on too much water as well as too little. You don't want to flush your electrolytes down the drain, and that WILL happen as a friend of mine discovered after embarking on a water diet.

And, from personal experience, distilled water can do odd things to your regularity. Much better to save it for the car's battery and your clothes iron.

We have a local company (Giant foods) who sells an organic apple cider vinegar with the mother. Freaking amazing.

On the subject of water, I have used distilled for years with no problems. But, to each his/her own. Most folks in my AO buy it up quick because the city water is so poor and there's a ton of fracking. My last test of the municipal water was 2,640ppm --that's really bad. I don't need water with that many chemicals/contaminates. I need distilled water with 0ppm, just H2o which is all the body needs. You can get the minerals and vitamins from food and supplements if needed. Case in point: local spring recalls water (happened not so long ago) because of possible e-coli contamination in the bottled water. Those who use distilled water have no problems. It's a standard survival tidbit I pass along for SHTF. But, I use water from a local source who treats it and runs me only .35 per gallon. It reads at 4ppm only, which is near distilled quality, too. It is heavily filtered and UV treated, the safest water I have ever known.

But more on topic... get plenty of water. You won't kill yourself by drinking too much easily. In the military, we had to drink 1 quart per hour, every hour just sitting around doing nothing. That is standard military SOP to help your body acclimate. The health benefits are HUGE when you hydrate properly. Eating and drinking right will TRULY help you solve many problems with your health. Look at our own forum members taking the "GROK" challenge --they are healthier and happier because of it. Not every illness can be prevented by diet alone, but I firmly believe the vast majority of illnesses in this country today are DIRECTLY contributed to poor water and food. We need to wake up as a society and take responsibility and no longer shovel garbage down our gullets and wonder why 70% of all men and 60% of all women acquire cancer these days. It's freaking ridiculous.

GROK comes from Robert Heinlin book 'Stranger in a Strange Land' a human raised by telepathic martians. Their term for understanding was GROK. Mean you understood something profoundly and intuitively
