What battle are you preparing for?

While going through some research for various projects I came across this. It made me wonder what exactly we can expect from the future and what kind of preps are worth doing. This changes those perceptions especially if you think of survival on a man to man level. It doesn't come down to just a gun vs gun or man vs man survival of the fittest like it has been in the past. The rules are changing and we should change with them.

Some older technologies.... are still relevant in defense to future robotic technologies... infringing on my safety bubble........

Almost every where I've lived there has been some one flying over me; private ,military and police day in and day out.
To live in denial that any of this technology will ever touch you, is a fantasy, that one can ill afford to ignore.
It would be prudent to prepare in a way that one could have a defense from this technology especially if it lands on the wrong hands.

I think that for this kind of world it is vital that we unify. If we stand alone we will fall for sure but if we organize and join forces we can win. I am working on an idea for a crowd funded project that will accomplish both tasks.

Just be careful. Whenever you become affiliated openly, you're a target. Have all your ducks in a row before committing.
The powers that be just love sending in militarized police to raid assemblies and gatherings. If it ever comes to push and shove, have a reliable means of communication.

I am personally prepping for a good night's sleep. That battle rages on.

Oh boy, it is along the lines of the Google horse and dog. I had nightmare a few days ago the Google offered me lots of money to come work for them. This is really scary stuff.

You see things like this and wonder why?

Probably should have tried this out in Ferguson & Baltimore. Note to Monkeys- prep burn cream.

When it comes to a fight, the only rule is that there are no rules. Adapt, improvise, overcome...and most importantly, win.

I've been called a Luddite by some, but one of my favorite "hobbies" is learning ways to confuse, defeat, work around and destroy new technologies,.

How do you change, adapt and improvise against these new inventions? A lot of these new weapons are machines, should we be learning how to make small EMP's to knock them out when a herd of mechanical things start attacking us?

Anything man has created, man can screw up. There is no one-size-fits-all counter-measure (EMP is a good idea for a start, but not only can a device be protected from it, but depending on the design it could cause unintended consequences like killing your favorite blender!). You gotta identify the problem before you start trying to come up with solutions. In a best-case scenario, I'd identify the problem, identify it's key parts/technologies, learn as much as I could about them and get a representative sample(s) to experiment on.

You want Luddite? I haven't found a new technology that could resist an 8 pound sledge, or in exremis, a 16 pound maul.

It's nice to see that we are in essential agreement on this issue chimo.

With just about every man made bit of technology, there is an arms race between the supremacy of it's use and effectiveness for the purposes it was designed and created for, and the counter measures to it, that exploit design and employment weaknesses to reduce or eliminate the weapon system's effectiveness. Usually this arms race continues, until some new technology with novel features renders the old technology obsolete, and the old technology falls into disuse, finding places more frequently in museums and as monuments instead of battlefields.

This arms race falls into two main arenas,

    1. Technical improvements (bigger, faster, lighter, more accurate, more protection, more lethality, etc etc)

    2. Evolutionary improvements in tactical employment for enhancing effectiveness on one hand...or minimising effectiveness on the other. For instance, quick firing field artillery has increased in payload and lethality....tactical countermeasures have incorporated combinations of improvements in protection (ie, body armour, battle field taxis, etc), and dispersal (no more close order combat in closed ranks with bayonets fixed), or alternatively "hugging close to the enemy" as frequently happened in SVN, where artillery was sometimes difficult to use, because of the risk of harming own troops as well as the enemy attackers.

For every high tech measure, there often can be found lower tech counter measures. Truly, adaptation is an essential key to survival.

These things run on either Air, or Hydraulic Fluid, to move... so all you need to do is treat them like a Human and cause them to BLEED... and then they Die, just like a Human....

My major battle is trying to make my income and saving cover expenses until I die. I love all this major technology that the military now has, and it looks like as a nation we will go broke trying to fund their development. In Viet Nam we had the sad experience of losing a college educated Second Lt with a great future ahead of him to a 17 year old kid who may seldom had enough to eat and was using a 40 year old gun with 30 year old ammo. We dropped more bombs in that war than we did in Europe in WW II, lost 50,000 troops and got the heck out in the end. If the liberals, minorities, and other groups wish to take control, they may end up like the USSR. It fell because in the end if you pretend to work and they pretend to pay you, your society may not be able to support itself.
The answers to tech are often simple, if you see WWII pictures of trains in many areas, they have several empty flat cars in front of the engine, the partisans figured out that if you took a jack and spread the rails, the train fell off the tracks and things got messy, or they took out the spikes or bolts holding the rails on the sleepers. I have read that at the battle of Stalingrad, the Germans had more men guarding the supply lines from Germany to the city, than soldiers fighting at that city.

The only Battle I am preparing for, is when the BAD Guys come, all the way out here, to collect my Weapons from my "Cold Dead Hands".... and when that Day comes, if EVER, before I DIE, I will be taking a whole bunch of THEM with me....

See post #2 as well..... easily makes most things "bleed" whatev fluid they may contain....be it human, robot or motor block ;)

I am thinking more along the lines of about low tech solutions....also, like humans the 'droid devil dogs rely on traction when moving.....make it slippery to hinder movement.....fire may harm vulnerable components, such as wiring and electronics....blinding detector sensors?? or blinding the remote controller's ability to see and direct the droids.... all kinds of possibilities. The Barrett (or equivalent) is nice if you have it, and you have time to engage and switch targets....but close quarter combat with these machines will require close quarter combat solutions.

Hmmm a fricken huge electro magnet.....[IMG] ;) Sometimes counter measures are adaptations of existing technologies that were designed for entirely different purposes....creative imagination is the way to adapting to technological change. For instance....anti shipping mines were counter measured by adapting fishing trawler technology and methods.
