Only drawbacks are greatly increased noise at/near the shooter position and the downward blast can kick up dust if you are close to the ground. I'm replacing the brakes on my AR's with very effective flash hiders instead - might not have time to get the hearing protection on in an emergency. I can say that a brake on an AR15 sure makes rapid shooting a real pleasure. Otherwise love them and plan to install on my higher powered rifles.
Thinking about one for my .308 Norma Mag... ( not the 300) accurate out to 1000 yards but kicks like a beast...
@yeti695 What helps depends on what you want to accomplish. @3M-TA3 At the range I wear ear muffs and shooting the big hammers, ear muffs with ear plugs. For hunting, I'd recommend a set of Peltor amplified muffs. One can hear better than normally; yet, they muffle loud noises. For emergencies, there a generations of war fighters with tinnitus.
I bought mine years ago. A former doctor suggested I stop shooting due to ear damage. I asked him to write me a prescription for silencers. He shut up and I found another doctor.
@kellory To be fair, he was a good doctor who let his liberal agenda get in the way of my constitutional right.
I fired my last doc and had a discussion about what I expect with his replacement. So far, he has upheld his end of the agreement.
Where they show themselves is by ignoring so many activities that are more dangerous than shooting at a range wearing ear protection.
I keep my Doc updated on 36 grn 22 lr ammo location and cost. I guess we both are heathens? Ask someone who cares......lol
@Gator 45/70 We've ran into our current doctor at the local range and our insurance agent also. Disagree, not heathens, Americans..
