With cattle contributing a tenth of global emissions, people are 'ethically obliged' to change their eating habits, an influential government think tank says

Steak and other red meats would be taxed highest - but all food could ultimately be targeted
Denmark is considering proposals to introduce a tax on red meat, after a government think tank came to the conclusion that “climate change is an ethical problem”.

The Danish Council of Ethics recommended an initial tax on beef, with a view to extending the regulation to all red meats in future. It said that in the long term, the tax should apply to all foods at varying levels depending on climate impact.

The council voted in favour of the measures by an overwhelming majority, and the proposal will now be put forward for consideration by the government.

The one word that nearly killed the climate deal
In a press release, the ethics council said Denmark was under direct threat from climate change, and it was not enough to rely on the “ethical consumer” to ensure the country meets its UN commitments.

“The Danish way of life is far from climate-sustainable, and if we are to live up to the Paris Agreement target of keeping the global temperature rise 'well' below 2°C, it is necessary both to act quickly and involve food,” the council said.

Cattle alone account for some 10 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, while the production of food as a whole makes up between 19 and 29 per cent, the council said.

Danes were “ethically obliged” to change their eating habits, it said, adding that it is “unproblematic” to cut out beef and still enjoy a healthy and nutritious diet.

“For a response to climate-damaging food to be effective, while also contributing to raise awareness of the challenge of climate change, it must be shared,” said council spokesman Mickey Gjerris.

“This requires society to send a clear signal through regulation.”

It has been a tough few months for fans of red meat, with consumption down after the World Health Organisation warned of an associated cancer risk.
Denmark is planning to tax meat in the fight against climate change

Social engineering of your eating habits via taxation and scare tactics....NWO in action!!!!!

It will never happen in the USA with highly subsidised industries that are pork barrelled: At least not until Soylent Green is as heavily subsidised as grain fed Beef and Pork, then such measures, may be too late to make any material difference.

On the other hand, cows, rabbits, chickens and pigs all emit tremendous amounts of green-house farts.

So if the UN was really serious about limiting the climatic impact of all that methane, they'd PAY red-blooded Americans a bounty for every pound of meat they consumed, and watch the global populations of all those global-warming offenders take a nose-dive.

Hell, if the UN would pay me five dollars a pound to eat beef, I'd quit canning Soylent Green in a heartbeat and hit the Barbeque Palace three times a day instead.

I dare say the human population would also take something of a nose dive....a number of eating disorders and diseases are correlated with a high meat consumption diet. A population of meat bounty Mr Creosotes stuffing themselves to capacity with meat would be a sight to behold...I pray Uncle Morgan that you don't succumb to such an inducement.

Warning...salty language, and some moderately disgusting dining etiquette.

Ah! And now you see the Brilliance of my PLAN!

    YESSS!!!

People would die by the millions, eating themselves to death in an orgy of compulsive carnivorous consumption, until, at last, only the Leftest UN Vegetarians would be left, and their Agenda 21 would have been achieved...

...unless, of course, the last few of us Useless Eaters ate them, too.

Ya know, frankly, when you run outta everything else, ya pretty much have to eat Vegetarian.

Sounds as if the Danish government just found a new excuse for a tax. But then, what leftist government doesn't constantly look for ways to separate its citizens from their money?

A tax itself, does nothing but bring in revenue. If the meat producer could get more per pound, he would already be doing so. All this will do, is damage yet another business. It seems those who want to save the world, do the most to destroy it, first. (Or want to save it for something other than humans)

Tax imposts on vices such as, Alcohol, Tobacco and guns do bring in revenue without a doubt, but do have some influence on buying decisions....more frequently in the direction of black-market or cheap and inferior products. I don't see any difference if red meat becomes a vice. More of an incentive to grow your own, for as long as that too isn't regulated out of existence..

Then explain why we have a tax on any beverage with CO2 in it? Tea, juices, water, are not taxed, but all soda is. It has made NO DIFFERENCE to consumption, just added revenue.
Show ANY BENEFIT from this tax besides another source of income.
Edit: the CO2 tax is $.08 on every dollar!

If that is true, we should get rid of all those farting elephants in Africa, they weigh thousands of pounds and eat oxygen producing grass etc 12 hours a day and create huge amounts of methane. NAH they are some kind of poster child for the lefties. We have to protect the animals and the wilderness, its just the humans that should go away.

    NSIDC Busted!

    "
Reader Chris71 has discovered the smoking gun on the NSIDC web site. Read on.

A few weeks ago, NSIDC put out this press release, claiming that 5+ year old ice is at its smallest level on record.

ice at least 5 years or older, is at its smallest level in the satellite record, representing only 3 percent of the total ice cover

The press release included the map below. This is a new style map which they just started in week 39 2015. The map below is for week 41 2015. All of their previous 1984-2015 maps have been deleted from their archive.

March ends a most interesting winter | Arctic Sea Ice News and Analysis

The good news is that Chris found one of their old style maps which had not been scrubbed from their website, and is annotated with the following text.

This graph is reloaded from ftp://ccar.colorado.edu/pub/tschudi/iceage/gifs/age${year}_${month}.gif every day and is available here as http://www.arctic-charts.net/ccar.colorado.edu/pub/tschudi/iceage/gifs/latest.gif

    www.arctic-charts.net/ccar.colorado.edu/pub/tschudi/iceage/gifs/

NSIDC has deleted the original graphs, but seem to have forgotten to get rid of the copy.

Here is where they get in trouble. Besides deleting data, NSIDC also deleted a lot of older ice when they switched maps. Note inside the circle how the red five year old ice has disappeared in their new maps.

The alterations are huge, and shown in the graph below. NSIDC deleted almost half of the five year old ice when they switched to the new maps. They also deleted about a third of the four year old ice, and some of the three year old ice.

Referring back to the top graph again, it becomes clear what they are up to. Had they used the same map set for the 2016 data as they did for all the other data in the graph below, 2016 would have had the most 4+ ice since about 2009. The graph below is junk science, useful only for propaganda.

It is bad enough that they switched data without telling anyone and used it to generate meaningless propaganda, but they also deleted all of the 1984 to week 36 2015 data from the disk. Fortunately they missed one map, which is the smoking gun. If the old data was that bad and needed to be deleted, then any comparisons made between the old and new data are extremely misleading- which is exactly what NSIDC was doing. They tracked that region of five year old ice for several years, and then suddenly decided it didn’t exist. Unbelievable.

    They are busted, big time.

I'm puzzled. What good is it to know the age of ice? Looking at the ice age graphs, the totals look pretty steady. Seems to me that might just mean a lot more.

Cooked is what Propaganda is all about.

If they had half a mind they'd realize the millions of BISON that were killed off in the old west did not cause a climate change.

The analogy I wish to make is those Bison and the Gases they produced by flatulence or just by decomposing when they died did not, at that time start global warming.

So much for a think tank or maybe that was a cesspool in the far off EU.

Either way it stinks to high heaven.
