UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

This has been touched on before, but here's some more fuel for the fire.

Driving is (under the law) operating a motor vehicle for commercial purposes. That's a regulated privilege.

Traveling is (on the other hand) a natural right, which can not be denied and which can not be regulated. It includes the non-commercial operation of a motor vehicle.

Enjoy this article--especially the last bit at the end.

That we allowed licensing a registration schemes in the first place only proves out the validity of the "slippery slope" argument.

In the STATE OF MAINE they will arrest you and torture you if you do not plead guilty to driving. I was thrown in jail for 4 days, given no food, water, phone call, or even a lawyer and tortured until I plead guilty. This article is technically right but not going to help you in a police state. Make sure that you have backup when you try to assert your rights.

I informed the officer that I was traveling and using my right to remain silent. They told me the right to remain silent was no longer valid in MAINE, abducted me, and tortured me for 4 days as outlined in the Geneva Conventions. I was very close to death when they "allowed" me to plead guilty. I am no longer in MAINE and all of my friends have since left the state as well.

Good advice, my friend. Learned the hard way, but learned it was.

@enloopious This is a bold and horrifying post... Abducted? Tortured? Denied the Fifth amendment? Have you sought legal council and could we hear more about this incident?

The lawyer they forced me to take never showed up for court. The local police dept labeled me as a "sovereign citizen" and immediately all local offices, clubs, police, city hall, state offices, etc stopped all contact with me and my business. My business had to close because police started harassing me, following me, sending in agent provocateurs, etc.

A few weeks ago my best friend was arrested for having a conversation with his brother on the telephone where he mentioned that someone they both knew as kids deserved to die and the STATE OF MAINE was eaves dropping on him and heard this. Kicked in his doors without a warrant, pulled guns on him, he pulled his gun on the cops and they had a stand off. After they showed badges he lowered his gun and they ransacked his house, terrified is 1y/o and 3y/o, took all of his guns, ammo, and computers and have yet to give it back. He has since left the state as well and is fighting to get his guns back.

@gator I'm sorry to hear you live in a place that bad.

I think sometimes it is better to play the 'gray man' card and not stand out.
Granted it may be abhorrent to some to bow down to TPTB like everyone else. But sometimes it may be better for them to be unable to distinguish you from the rest of the crowd.

I'd prefer to pick my time and place if given the opportunity.

I don't think the lesson learned was quite the one they were hoping for. Very short sighted of them.

Very true. There is a saying in hockey, "never retaliate". This means if you are going to do something you better initiate it because the person hitting back always gets the penalty because they get caught.
