    Howdi fellas,
been haunting the shadows of these halls for two months.
Initially Google found me the off-grid sage Cruisin Sloth who posts here but I held off joining or posting 'till I got a feel for the place.
Well my toes are warm so I'll crack on.

I'm in early middle-age ;) leave it at that; about to commence studying (yet again) horticulture in college. My background is IT, media, catering with a peppering of artistic pretension barely worth a nod :)

Since returning to this cursed rock the banks' gambling debts have been socialised, crippling the poorest in our society with a debt that will enslave them for generations.

Payments on the interest of this odious debt, a debt not ours, have eviscerated our public finances: closing hospitals, banks evicting families from their homes.

Anyway, I've begun prepping for a recon to one of the remote islands off our rugged west coast, there to eventually over-winter, if I can, if it's feasible and if I learn, plan and prep well enough.

The place is remote in the extreme, accessible only for a few months each year. No running water, uninhabited by our species for over a century. There are no trees or edible plants as far as I can make out, naught save the Atlantic Ocean and its bounty.

I know it's a tall order, a rational person would say impossible, but like Bill Gates said:
"Most people overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in ten years".

    So that's me :)

I spent a few weeks in Ireland and must say the Guinness over here is not even close to Ireland plus sipping it at a pub on the River Liffey looking at the brewery is bonus.

    Ha!
I know exactly what you mean.
It's not an easy tipple to like, Guinness, but I dabble on rare occasions.
Dublin, the old schmoke, is my origin, it's smog coats my lungs.
Cheers to your acquaintance stg58 :D

Thank you Brokor, and thanks for the fix.
Incidentally would it have been better if Gates had not assimilated citizens' intellectual property into Windows? Would if have been better if Steve Jobs hadn't co-opted the tech for the iPhone?
I've meandered into the belief that Western society is founded on theft not private property.

lol, right so, anyways dawn's rose tipped fingers stir.
    adios amigos, hasta manana :)

Hello @wildGoose and glad you stopped lurking. I like what you wrote above. Immediately my mind started to formulate "how would I"...... water, fire, shelter (big three). Is it all rock? My mind is still twirling as I try to figure out how I would cover the big three. I keep thinking damp & cold. How is the wind? I really do like what you wrote because I will spend all day trying to figure out how to inhabit the uninhabitable.

    Greetings & welcome

Welcome to the monkey tree WildGoose. Ditto on the ancestry thing. Mine started as Border Scots, but crossed swords with the King of England's tyrannical armies one too many times and they had to flee to Ireland. After a couple centuries there they ventured out all over the big blue marble sowing seed.

LOL, sometimes I recite that line, "wind at your back, sun warm upon your face" when I'm walking in the mountains :)

Go raibh maith agat mo cara agus dia duit :)

Charmed to make your acquaintance Motomom34.
Yes ma'am, my primary concerns are those above, but also accessing the location is a feat in itself. For opsec sake, I'll omit the name of the place, suffice to say there are no natural ports, harbours or landings, the entire island is ringed by sharp rocks. The winds rolling in from the Atlantic vary drastically making the crossing contingent on conditions.
Thankfully no, the interior appears to be scrubland.
Google earth reveals ancient watercourses and tertiaries but I assume these only come into play during heavy rains. You're right though, water is a pickle.

    Great, nice one :)
Jeez, I'm glad you guys aren't posting tin foil hat pictures.
Anyway in the interests of full disclosure I'll admit I'm a moderate surfer, an average swimmer and a newb boatman (small 2 man inflatable). So I'll be focusing also on upping my knowledge of the waters of that place and improving the requisite skill-set in order to minimise risk.
So much to learn, time is wealth.
